Wink

One thing I have also noticed recently in Hertfordshire is an increasing number of old bangers being driven around by Asian sorts who appear to have **** all understanding of lane control.

Yesterday - I was happily tootling along the A414 towards home in Welwyn to find myself enveloped in a cloud of smoke behind some smacked up whack nova gently weaving between lanes at approx 30 mph. On one of these oscillations to the left I pulled past on the right and glanced across out of curiosity. I wish I hadn't.

I guess it was a female ? It looked like if I'd had a lump of sugar or two it would have eaten them out of my hand. I guess there mustn't have been drivers seat cos it was so low down I could just about make out the top of it's head and huge overbite and it's withered hands on the steering wheel.
AND it was wearing what I assumed to be two milk bottle bottoms for glasses. (Fecking huge - Made Jodrell bank look like a kiddy telescope)

I'd bet my left bollock that Red Rum didn't have an MOT / TAX or insurance but I'd also double that by betting my right bollock that it is in full receipt of JSA / Disability / Free Dental care / Free reshoeing / Stabling etc all on the back of tax payers.

FFS - They Trot over here - take our jobs - fine, I don't want to work in a fecking call centre anyway but for ***** sake LEARN TO DRIVE !!!

going a bit off thread - how can the females who wear the full veil, that is leaving a 1/2" wide slot to see out of be allowed to drive. it must impair their peripheral vision. if i drove about with a tin hat on from a suit of armour (giving the same effect) how long would it take before i saw the blue flashing lights in my rear view mirror.
yes everyone has a right to their own faiths & religions but i cannot agree when these endanger other road users.

When the monitoring cameras start videoing 'offenders' faces, the number of people wearing balaclavas, motorcycle helmets, suits of armour, while driving can only increase. You may be glad of that old burka in the back of the wardrobe

Speed doesn't kill it's the ability to stop in time that does! It's all about the money.

We pay income tax and if your lucky enough to earn in the higher bracket you will pay 50% on that amount over the bracket in taxes. You might have thought that was enough you then go to the petrol station and fill up and 80% of the fuel you are buying is pure tax. You might still have some money left but you use this to pay for your car insurance which has premium tax built in. You think hmm maybe I have enough left I'll go down to the pub and have a drink but that drink is heavily taxed and so your teetotal and think your ok. You buy something from the shop and most of it has 17.5 tax in it. On your way back from that shopping trip you think let me get home early so you take the Toll road and while your on it you see a traffic police with a gun trying to catch you out (yes I see this quite often on the M6 Toll)! Then you get home and think woo no more spending but you open your letters to read Poll Tax is due If someone was to show you from every hundred pounds earned how much you actually keep there would be a revolution but the government have the master PAYE. When self employed you see just how much tax you pay and so your Accountant is your best friend

"It's the other morons on the road not you"
This is the line my old man gives me time and time and time and time again........to the point it's engraved in my brain.......
But this is true.......don't drive beyond your limits and use common sense....not hard to spot the yellow box's really is it?

However I agree with old Jeremy Clarkson on this one......
3 chances to past your test, you don't pass, you don't drive.
Simple.
They can capitalise on more people using transport, less fumes, less congestion, fix up the roads.........everyone's a winner......

and yes I did pass mine first go, no minors and it was the same on my bike test.
Also riding bikes before you jump in your car improved your road awareness no end and would recomend it to anyone.....

Now why would they do that? Do you really believe the government really wants less drivers on the road really? As above if they stopped getting even 20% of tax from the petrol, insurance premiums, mot, car tax, fines, toll roads, congestion charges, etc, etc they would be very broke. Then what would happen? Bicycle, Trainers and shoes tax?

Not talking about the goverment coming out on top, i'm talking about making the roads a safer place.....
Of course you're going to get the few who floooooooke it but roughly speaking the roads would be safer........or that give the rest of us more room to boot it about!

I know what your saying but with a lot of these suggestions they have the major flaw 'reduction in money for the government'. Thats why they won't get adopted. Now if you suggest a scheme like congestion charging or a fast toll road a bit like the german autobahn but you pay even more than the normal toll, etc see if that grabs the governments attention or autofining instead of normal fines but at a higher fine price (because of cause with that extra money they can make the roads safer can't they ...... ) .

Wasn't there a recent consultation on speeding and speed limits? Does anyone know what the outcome of that was?

Personally I always stick to the limits in anything less than national as most of the time they're there for a good reason(and the boys in blue tend to lurk!) but I suspect that at some point I'll probably get nailed in a national by a copper while I'm going round a bunch of cars who are all doing 40-50mph in a big long line, bumper to bumper like total arseholes!!

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the police are going round telling drivers that the national speed limit for cars is 50mph!? Or is everyone just on 9+ points or something!?
