Ah, bless him. I hope he takes it and was not put off by your exceedingly white "Scott Mills/Richard Hammond" smile

This thread actually infuriates me.
My other half has the worst teeth and has a very deep seated reason for being so. A very, very bad experience as a child in a dentist's chair. He will not ever go near a dentist again. I have tried cajoling him, begging, bribing and threatening and he just won't budge. (This , not for appearance sake but for his health.)
Yet I married him bad teeth and all. He is a wonderful person. He now works in a high class outdoors clothing establishment meeting lairds of the manor down to lowly gamekeepers et al.
No one has turned and run out of the shop because of his teeth.
I think the very fact that you felt the need to post this thread shows how shallow you are to your fellow man.
What if you'd posted about the colour of his skin ? By jimbo, there'd be outcry. In fact you wouldn't have. So because a guy has a dental problem you feel justified in putting him up before a vote. Glad I'm not working for you.

I,m not going to vote,

Ive been in that guys position, and there may be very just reason why his teeth are in apoor state, Dentists being one of them!!!!

I went and had the last lot of mine out last year, only because they were giving me so much trouble. If the truth be known, i wouldnt have gone, fear can overule many things!!

My other half understood, and like apparition saw the person not the problem.

Agreed it does look unsightly, but faced with sitting a dentists chair, i would have gone to work butt naked.

im glad there are two sensible people on here.what a crass bunch of dummies.there are dozens of reasons for poor teeth and to associate a dental problem with being generally dirty etc is so shallow and dim,it defies belief.i employ people for their potential to do the job,not because they have had facials, tucks, false teeth or any other reason.bunch of to**pots.

After employing Hundreds of folk over the years, you know within five seconds of someone walking in to the interview if its a yes or no. Sorry but thats the way it is. Been on many courses that tell me thats not the way to do it but we are all human.

Its the year 2006 and in this day and age there is no excuse whatsoever for bad dental health. When you see people with rotten teeth it makes me want to throw up.I was terrified of the dentist after a bad experience when i was younger, and although i looked after my teeth,i broke one when i was 25 and HAD to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and pay the dentist a visit. Now i go regularly and i've even had some cosmetic work done and i can honestly say, that breaking that tooth was the best thing that could have happened to me!!
Nice big smile now

Cant say i noticed

For the thick of listening, i feel that it is my god given right as an operations manager to employ who i like ... i only wanted to know if anyone else had the same feelings as me.

Bad teeth is disgusting, its sheer laziness & i for one dont like.

For the ones with the dentist phobia, think how the dogs feel when they go to the vets ..... they still have to go & bear it.

The young guy accepted & as jasey said i probably did make his weekend.

Have a nice one everyone & remember ................................... brush your teeth

See what a nice smile you get

See you in an industrial tribunal!!!!!

what a small minded biggoted attitude!

Has it never occured to you that other reasons may be the cause of the dentasl problems???

its close on discrimination, and should the person you interviewd be disabled, then you really are on a sticky wicket! ( not all disablement is visual btw)

i hope we never find your darkest fears, because it would be a pleasure to make you feel as uncomfotable / terrified as i felt when having to go to the dentist.

Marathon man is tame by comparison!!!

I hope your "trophy" employee is usless and you have to readvertise for the post continously

Mart

Another interesting question Stephen......

Would you want to work for a guy who bases his decision making process on a ScoobyNet poll before giving you a job?

I interview people on a regular basis. Surely can the guy do the job is the main consideration.

Is there a hygeine issue that would make it diffuclt for people to speak to him ?

Does he a smart appearance apart from that and does he seem driven ? If not then maybe he's not what you are after regardless of the teeth issue. It may be an indicator of something else but it may just be a medical condition which with the cost of dentistry has not been seen as a top priority.

I've not been to a dentist for 23 years and my teetch are fine, could do with a plosh, but no pians not holes and thats down to sensible diet and an oral hygeine routine. My main pitfall is smoking. Maybe the guy was a very heavy smoker before ?

I'd not make any issue of the teeth merely use it an an indicator to better question the guy to see if he has the attributes you are looking for to overcome any objectins you have but ensure you ask the other candidates the same questions or you could find yourself in very serious trouble for not making a objective decision and favouring someone less sutable for the job. When I meabn serious trouble its a very serious offence to do so and you can be used personally by the applicant as well as your company being brought into disrepute.

This is the kind of thing that gets infront of an industrial tribunal even if the applicant doesn't get the job.

The youngest out of the range was possibly the smartest, the best qualified & probably the best person for the role but lacks experience.
Best qualified person with a lot of potential got the job, sounds allright to me. Personal appearence will matter at job interviews the same as anywhere else.

it's not funny PG - people with mank teeth have feelings too !

Next you'll be telling us you wouldn't give a job to someone who smelt of **** !

Just because someone is unwilling to look after themselves it's the rest of society's fault !

OK !

We had a 50 odd year old guy come as a contractor, reeked of **** and was very craggy, nice guy and very well turned out but looked very haggard, now you would expect a 50 odd year old chain smoker to have manky teeth or at least gnashers more in keeping with his age and habits, but no he had the teeth of a American News Anchorman, absolutely pristine white and perfect, I could not take my eyes off them,

So the moral being, if you are going to get your teeth done, contrive improvements that dont show the rest of your face up !

The most worrying issue is the fact he's not aware of the fact he may be liable to prosecution by making an objective decisions based on looks !

Boring stuff I know but protect yourself at all times !
