i keep reading/hearing about guns on the street being converted replicas. as an engineering student i think its an utter load of tosh. The materials used to make a £75 replica couldnt withstand the punishment of real ammo. also, how do you expect to fit a 9mm round down a mag tha holds 8mm rounds with no room for a bullet. Its easy to bore and ream an 8mm to 9mm, but you would have to change the slide on most guns, and theres no way i would be within 100m of it being fired. The thing would explode! So to make it you would need a real slide, real mag and tougher springs, and live rounds which are illegal anyway. 9mm blank revolvers, they might be easier, but again, you have to bore the barrel and ream it, by which time you may not well have bothered as youve lost any accuracy/seal, and again, exploding barrel.
Easier to get hold ofa real shooter. Im not the dodgiest of people but Im fairly certain I could get one in a day.
annoys me i cant use blank firers anymore because of scarmongering by a stupid government. I mean FFS, they had an amnesty round here ofr handing in, wait for it, BB guns!
BB guns jesus I mean............................ erg god bloody.
blood pressures going through the roof. gunna leave it there.

There is a constant source of guns available... Usually in the right pub through a suitable connection anyone can have one within an hour...
£250ish will buy you a .22 revolver and .32 automatics can be got for under £200...Things is the automatics out there look good but are notrious for jamming as so many have been converted from blank firing guns...
People often go for .38 revolvers because their more reliable but young folk go for the sub machine guns "spray and pray" things...
The most popular gun of gangster choice a few years ago was the Brocock ME38 Magnum air pistol:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...05/ngun105.xml
as the air cartridge can be drilled out and used a sleeve to hold a live .22 round
Its scary how easy these things are to get hold of and how the sentance for possessing one is often a small price to pay for the types who carry them... Theyre also starting to make an appearance in my home town now, decades after first being shot in neighbouring cities and if these coke heads arent fearful of shooting in opublic then no-one is safe...
Ah well...

Audilover,
Do you really think that violent crime has not got worse and is still increasing?
If you do then you are living in cloud cuckoo land! It is not that long ago when a murder anywhere was front page news. These days the average killing will just get a passing mention since there are so many of them.

Just look at the numbers of missing persons from today to 20 years ago. Theyve gone down...
Its just today these gangsters and kids are more brazen/dumb to do things like this without careful planning. As long as you mind your business your alot more likely to get bum raped and then die in a car crash.
And converted replicas are the most common gun but they can usually only be fired once or twice before they fail hence why there are so many non fatal shootings.

Sorry mate you're mistaken!
Believe me it is possible to convert these weapons, easily and cheaply. I come across them quite regularly and they work just as well as a 'real one'! The standard of replicas is as good as the real thing (slides are metal etc and real handguns are more and more plastic in build), the tolerances may not be up there and there is a chance of explosion but they work. Remember most of these 'gangsters' want a show piece that might work for 10-20 rounds before going pop! Reboring 8mm to 9mm is simple and reloading equipment (the tools to make real bullets) is readily available and is LEGAL if bought seperately, its possesion of live ammo that is illegal.
Brockocks are a prime example, a simple bit of grinding and boring turns these 'toys' into real revolvers capable of killing.
The amnesty in relation to bb guns is warranted, i recently went to a local station to 'make safe' a Glock 17. Up until the moment i dropped the magazine and saw the bb's i was convinced it was real!!! And i carry a Glock 17 every working day! Point one of these at anyone on the street and they'll think its real, point it at me and i'll more than likely engage you as a threat!
On the plus side, just got 15 hours at double time protecting the staff looking after these two muppets that got shot in Salford and got a couple of good jobs out of the initial incident!!

I can understand what you say Chris 5-0, I think it is a shame that your working conditions must surely grind you down so that you regard it purely as a job. It was beginning to get like that in the Services as I left too.
