thinking of getting a p1????

The P1 rom code is, as Mike says, different in that the knock sensitivity setting is different, otherwise every map is identical to STi5/6 maps. I always use P1 code when remapping JDM cars for that reason.
They have Broquet in the tank, least the ones I have peeked in have.
Use 95 ron at your peril and Optimax or Tesco 99 is the fuel that is needed as a minimum. Some booster on top is the way to run a car that hasn't been remapped.
Treat the maf as a consumable and replace regularly (every 20k miles for example.
Most std cars on Optimax etc run a low advance multiplier of 11-13 (max is 16) so you won't be getting your rated 276 bhp, apart from that as long as the car IS std it should be ok but start modding and you should be remapping in all honesty.
cheers

Deco - a bit off-topic (apologies) but maybe you can help.
Me and Mrs. were over in Dublin recently for a wee weekend break. Went on one of those open-top bus tours round the city and spotted a bright-pink newage scoob. Unfortunately it was out of sight by the time I got my camera out.
Do you know anywhere on the net that I might find a picture of it?

FFS - another slag off P1 chocolate engines thread...
I had mine from new and it did 92,000 hard miles in 4 years - aftermarket back box and K & N filteralong with 6 pot AP's were all that was changed - Subaru main dealer serviced and always warmed up / cooled down properly and not one problem ever.
Took it on 2 trips to WRC in Spain - 1100 miles in 1.5 days / 3000 miles in 1 week and not one sign of anything failing or falling off - MAF sensors included!!
Went like a train from day 1 until the day I sold it - so all I can say is thank you Prodrive, thank you.
Was a fantastic car to own and I still miss the P1 driving experience everyday I have an Evo VIII now - and I still believe the P1 was a better car to drive

im after a P1 aswell
hi everyone this is my 1st time on scoobynet and also my 1st time on a forum so i dont really know what im doing or how to find certain information easily. i am also in the hunt for a P1 but have the same concerns as the person who started this thread, but going of what has been said so far i dont feel that there should be any reason for concern so im still going to get one, any way someone in this thread said to go to the P1 forum for all the info you'll ever need about them and ive tried putting P1 in the search bar but nothing came up if anyone could help me out please send me a private message, many thanks. and sorry for invading your thread with my own little problem.

dont knock it til you try it!
having owned a P1 for 2 years I can honestly say that even though everytime I drive it there is at the back of mind the sneaking suspision that maybe today its going to go bang, but once I drive it up through the challenging roads of mid wales on the odd business trip or two makes me overcome with this mega feeling of complete awe and respect for a car that on this forum it seems everyone dispises.?
If there is any consulation in this theory of petty jealousy for this impreza, then us P1 owners are driving the last of the 'classic' shaped impreza models before the demise of the impreza brand with the design if you can call it that of that bug eyed monster and its equally ugly offspring. for your inforation this car was introduced to also celebrate the achivements of the late great Richard Burns who was also impressed with the car when he drove it. He even actually owned one for a while even if it was a freebie from subaru.
So come on guys what is it exactly that you dont like about this car. Noone has ever said exactly what it is that makes you all vomit at the mention of the car, yet apart form the 22B I dont see anything else turning heads as much as the P1 does.
Well I love it in anyway so there!!

Find these fish wife stories about P1s blowing up everywhere most amusing. 80% of P1s blowing up between 40-60k? what complete bollocks!
Had mine from new, did nearly 50k in it, brother owns it now with 60k. Decatted it straight away without a remap, just as I have with all my Imprezas, and its been perfect. 1000 mile run in period, then it was game on. Warming down consisted of popping it into neutral and coasting to my house for about 30 seconds.
If it bothers you so much about an engine going bang then get one thats had a new engine in it.

I have nothing against the P1 but it seems that P1 owners like 22B owners seem to think they are superior to everyone else. The 22B can be classed as special but the P1 is no different to any other STi5 with the exception of having a P1 badge stuck on it and 10 grand added to the price tag.

I am sorry but you are wrong, a P1 is very definately a 2000MY car. The cars were built in late 1999, AFTER Sti V6 and 2000MY Turbo 2000 had started production. STi V5 was officially 99MY although, as usual, cars were built from mid 1998

Probably because it been wrongly stated once but repeated many times and then is taken as fact in true 'internet styleee'. The moral is; Don't believe everything you see on the Internet
In real terms the P1 is neither V5 or 6 as it wasn't built as either down the line but did have any mechanical updates that the V6 received. What it didn't get though were the front lip and rear spoiler mods that the V6 got as we knew they would just get removed.

2 of my friends P1's have gone pop in the last month, one while driving at very high speed for a prolonged time and the other while on track.
I bought myself a Type r V5 7 weeks ago and the bottom end let go 2 weeks ago
See a pattern here?!

But then I'm mechanically sympathetic to the cars I own, usually.

See a pattern here:
wrx 2 years
sti5typeR 9 months
p1 4 years
22b uk version 8 months
None blew an engine in nearly eight years.
