Not all on the same day. Obviously the GT3 RS is a completely different kettle of fish, but the STi holds up quite well in these figures.
I am with John - evidence with similar driver ability the 997 Carrera is slower than the standard STi with 265bhp never mind 330bhp and I would imagine the Spec C is significantly faster again.

Maybe Gary was just having a bad day

The 997 S is very quick car - as fast as the 996 GT3.

My own experience at Bedford - indeed I still have the videos - of running a Classic with 330bhp was to only be passed by a 996TT and a 993 RS kept pace with me. Does that make me faster - no - it makes the majority of the 911 drivers probably not quite as good as their cars. You can still drive badly in a Scoob and go fast.

Steve - go to see Don Palmer - you will not regret it for a moment. He says the majority of GT3 RSs have been to see him over the past year!

The 997 S is very quick car - as fast as the 996 GT3.

The difference is that the 997 will keep lapping all day everyday and drive it back and forwards in the evening too. The Scoob will give up after the first 10 mins and need its brakes sorting.

Its ok putting a quick lap in but no damned good if you can only do 3 laps before things start to fail (In standard form)

Oh and as for the 997 driving away from me, I did have some balast sat next to me, take a bow davyboy Was it an 'S'? can you remember?

........we were going downhill the balast would have helped

While a Subaru might do somethings better than a Porsche, it's the fact the Porsche is good at everything that makes it so special.

Yes, well done, but I think that the Caterham is the only one?

Should add, that as a hill climber in an old 911 for 10 years, they are bloody hard to drive fast and get a good time.
The Impreza is just so easy in comparison.

Get a 911 flowing and all is right with the world, pity you have to take to the track to reach that 'level'

Question:

Do you think Don Palmer could teach about hill climb contol rather than track day control?

Yes - and I say this because of what he does. He does teach technique - but what he really teaches is the mindset of driving which is a very different thing. It may seem a bit odd at first if you are not used to such thinking - but very rewarding once you understand it.

Give him a call and see what he says. He does coach a lot of very good people and companies including the test drivers for a rather famous sports car marque!!
