POP GOES THE STI

If you have damaged your engine due to using normal unleaded I'd suggest you contact the international scientific community because it will be the first occurrence of this in the world and they will need to investigate this phenomenon.

As long as you were not hitting the limiter on the way up to your 90mph NO engine should go pop sitting at around 3.5k rpm! There HAS to be other reasons. My first thought when you described the hose that came off, was that it was one of the hoses that pushes on to the solid pipe(s) that run along the engine side of the intercooler? These, I believe, are the closed-loop crankcase ventilation pipes going back to the induction side? If there was considerable pressure in the crankcase caused by a blown piston, this could possibly pop the tube.

Thing is, its hard to divine an engine failure without seeing it.

Listen to Pavlo (Zen, post 21) he knows what he's talking about- this does show all the symptoms of a loose intercooler hose and may well be nothing more serious than that.
