On my birthday last year my gorgeous hubby rolled over to me in bed, put something long and hard in my hand and said "it's your birthday - you can have the remote today"
You know her the best - what does she like? Find out and do lots of it! Personally I don't trust a man who spends loads of money but gives little or no thought to gifts. I'd love a pressie that cost nothing as long as there had been a lot of thought put in.
Find out her favourite flower - her favourite colour - her favourite movie - her favourite food etc. Then use the information wisely. If you've been dating for ages then take her back to the place you first met. Fill the room with candles and get her favourite take away in front of her favourite movie.
Or buy her something yummy from Tiffany - I'm sure you can't go too far wrong with that!
Good luck!

What she will like will depend on a number of things.
All people are primarily either visual, auditory or kinesthetic.
If she is visual she will love the flowers.
If she is auditory listen and tell her what you feel.
If she is kinesthetic then she will like cuddles and contact.
I know this is simplisitic - but it is true. I am very confident there are people on here who have told their partners endlessly that they 'love' them and the response will be 'but you never show me you love me'. Or vice versa.
The thing is whilst it might seem simple it has a massive impact - if you have experienced it is it wierd - you can tell a visual person something over and over again and they really don't take it in - show them and they are yours forever
Visual people tend to be better dressed, concerned about how they look, slimmer, look up a lot, talk quickly...
Auditory people tend to be thoughtful, reflective, quiet, talk a little slower, average dress and appearance.
Kinesthetic people seem to be 'slower' because of their internal processing, can be a little 'rounder', dress is sloppier with clothes that may look **** but feel really good.
So before you decide what to do - find out what her primary mode is and work from there

Tell her your going away for the weekend.
Pick her up in a rented Aston Martin, book a quiet hotel in the country with log fires and four poster bed. Make sure they put ice cold champagne and flowers in the room when for when you arrive. Reserve somewhere nice for dinner.
That should just about do it also you will enjoy it so not a total waste of money

Ask one day what she likes e.g. fragrances, film actors, shopping places, food etc etc.If she is an expressive sort, she will give you a hint like -"i would love to go to Egypt or something."
Then basically, compare the deal whether it is affordable. If not, feed her locally whatever she kinda goes like this> about.
you should be arright.

Sorry, this was just in conjunction with the "UK people borrow too much, the world's about to end" thread elsewhere

Good thread - gives me a chance to tell you the story about my girlfriends friend...
My girlfriends friend went out with a guy (sort of blind date, although he had seen her at a party once) back in January. She is in her early thirties and he is about 10 yrs older I think, they both have children from previous relationships. Evidently the date went well and they saw each other about 5 time over the next week. Next update I got was on valentines day, I was told that this guy had bought my gf's friend a convertable 3 series BMW with a personalised number plate!!
You can guess what's coming next... a few weeks ago they announced their engagement - bear in mind they've only known each other for a couple of months. But apparently "when you know, you know" .
The majority of girls I've talked to about this said they would probably "run a mile", so if this guy likes the girl so much that he wants to marry her, why did he risk it all by buying her a car etc? Fair play to him though, it appears to have worked.
I find the whole thing bizarre, just hope my girlfriend doesn't start expecting the same sort of treatment!

So what has she done to prove how much you mean to her? Relationships are 2 way streets, just let it run its course, too much too early and you'll be setting yourself standards to live up too
Failing that KY Jelly

Show a genuine interest in her day, her life, what she likes and what she wants. Lots of open questions and then listen attentively without interruption. Offer ideas and not advice unless specifically requested.
Flowers/gifts occasionally, but not too often as they cease to mean anything otherwise.
Timing is all important - as in when she least expects it - or just before the point where she's thinking "that ******* hasn't done anything nice for me in a while"
Do the occasional big thing - surprise meal, weekend away, etc.
Give her the remote
IF she is the one, always put her before all the laddish stuff (beer/football/etc) or at the very least give her plenty of notice.
Please her first in the bedroom, and make sure you know a) how and b) that there's more to sex than penetration.
If you can do all that, she'll know

Married for 11 years (to the same person) - now very happily
My post above comes from first hand experience of what makes a relationship work not a circular email

Diablo's post is almost spot on, except I prefer
IF she is the one, always give her plenty of notice about the laddish stuff (beer/football/car etc) and at the very least put her before the non priority events.
