Just look at the more obvious things like clogged up air filter/fuel filter firstly...Maybe it could be something simple like that, Mind you if it turns out to be something more sinister ie ignition (plugs, leads ect) then youd be better off taking it to someone with a little more knowlege...

with the ignition on have a listen down the filler hose you should here it buzzing,
i aint saying people on ere are wrong, but i think if the pump wer to go your engine would have fired up for a sec, and as you said wen u removed the hose fuel pissed all over the engine, to me that means the was presure there and your engine should have fired up for a second or 2.
so in other words i dont think its your fuel pump.....
take the sparkplugs out and check them for a spark, i once stalled my car within 3 seconds of the engine starting and it wouldnt go after that, turns out it was flooded. i blew all the plugs dry and it went first start.
just and idea anyways

do the drivers side, as to get to the passengers side you have to remove the water bottle, and they are harder to get to

I was just about to post the same question - Is there somerthing in the air? - Is there a dodgey batch of optimax...? - I've just started using it, 2nd tankful I think
Wierd
The engine was turing over fine but no hint of a start - wife said on her journey home that it seemed to be struggling to get over 60 mph...
I have put battery on charge anyway ( must be 4 or 5 years old now) - lets see how we get on...
Cheers

Hey why not try good old tesco 99ron, heard good things about this fuel and its a penny or two cheaper lol
I take it no fault codes are coming up when the green connectors are joined?

Just checked my ECU codes - doesn't seem to be a problem there, I can't here any buzzing down the fuel filler... I removed the pipe that connects to 'IN' on the fuel filter - and there was no fuel pumped out with the engine cranking - I guess this means failed pump?
