Was disscusing this thread at work this afternoon with a bloke who had an "accident" with a biker a few years ago, to cut a long story short, He was driving along in a 30 limit, Ready to turn right, was slowing down , indicating, all was clear so made the turn (into a main car dealers here in suffolk, in one of there courtsey cars), when a biker decided to over take him and the traffic behind, righting off both car and bike, the biker was thrown clear and suffered a broken wrist,
Now this was in front of multipule wittnesses, even the police at the scene said it was not the car drivers fault..... guess what a few weeks later he's down the nick giving a statement coz they were gonna charge him with dangerous driving!
In the end he was charged with careless driving but got off after a couple of court apperances,
As far as he was aware the biker was not charged, but did claim damages off the garages insurance, but this did go on for a couple of years.

And lets not forget the biker that mowed down two grandparents and their grandchildren in ipswich last year, killed the grandmother and seriously injured
the others......HOW FAST was he going in a 40MPH limit on a straight peice of road?
If it had been my famaily he had hit he would not make court, let alone prison.. Rant over

There seems to be some serious anti-bike speak on here?

Dont forget there are dicks heads on bikes and dick heads in cars!

The problem is a lot of the dicks heads on bikes only ride them once a week and are pretty bloody clueless.

I've found myself overtaking someone who was overtaking someone else back in my biker days. Whist going down a local B road I came up behind 2 cars, it was t straight piece of road with excellent visibility so I went to pass them. I didn't kick it down a couple of gears or anything but I must admit that I was going pretty fast so when the car at the back pulled out without warning I found myself with a few options...

Try and knock off about 60mph in 30 yards
Jump into his back seat through the rear window and congratulate him on his observational skills and explain the concept of indicators
Pull my knees in as tight as I could and go past

I made it past ok but it could have easly went the other way. If it had have done realise that I was in part to blame but theres always 2 sides to a story.

Just remind me of the maximum speed limit on a B road?
I thought it was 60mph at the very most, If you had to "knock off about 60" that means you were quite clearly going like ****!
If you were doing 80,90,100+ it's not really suprising the car driver didnt see you,When he looked in his mirror you were just a spec in the distance!
It's how accidents happen, but of course it's never the bikers fault!

I saw that in the local paper down there, we had one where i use to live about 5 or so years ago, 30 zone, woman pulling out across a road, bike was 400m+ away from her when she started the manouvre, he was going that FAST (inexcess of 100mph in a build up 30 zone) that he hit her in less than 2 seconds, threw him across the road, took out the front of her car, he landed on the other side of the road, and was run over by a bus coming in the other direction (honest im not going to laugh but thats poetic justice) and he died. The woman now no longer drives and no she wasnt a pensioner, she was in her early 30's i believe.
Here where i live now, you get bikes going up this road at 80-100mph (40 zone) and there have been mulitiple deaths as they aint as tough as a dry stone wall, and yes they do VERY stupid overtaking manouvres here also.

Tony.

Like I said, I'm not laying all the blame on the car driver.

What I am saying is that he probably went home and told his wife how I buzzed him on purpose, bloody bikers etc etc, but left out the fact that he didn't have a proper look or indicate before he pulled out.

without wanting to speculate on whos fault it is...

I dont have a dislike to bikers at all. In fact the oppersite, i would love one but as described above, i am quite likley to find myself in the situation as above, ie, overtaking someone who is also overtaking. bikes are fast. Its usualy the sports bikes pulling these stunts as they are out for a ride, rather than a purpose. They have the bike to get there "kicks" shall we say.

Nothing at all wrong with that, i quite often go out in the car round the kielder roads for the same reason.

Its impatient and dangerous to do things like that, and i have come across it many a time on the local country roads. 1 or more power ranger look-a-like comes up behind me, i have a car in front and im waiting till its safe to overtake. The time comes and because he wants to prove his engine is faster than mine, he ovetakes me at the same time. its not clever, its just sheer dangerous.

now whilst i know every rider does not go on like that on the roads, many do, and guess what, they are the ones we remember and all talk about. Theres nothing memorable to say about a guy on a fast bike who safley overtook me on a quiet road, but theres alot to say about the one that did the dangerous act

Bikers.... Today here in suffolk the sun was shining, silly season, bikers everywhere...... Including one biker who decided to drive through the small town where i live at way over the speed limit, Forcing two people who were crossing the road to jump out of his way.... He didnt have a choice,it was on a bend, if he braked he ended up in some parked cars, so he just drove at two people in the road! I was with my wife and kids watching from the pavement as well as 20-30 others, I just hope someone got his number!

So if it was you on that bike in Eye today at @1500hrs, you were riding like a tawt,You were lucky you didnt kill two people, you were lucky you didnt kill yourself, and i didnt get your number, but if someone did i will give evidence.......
It's gonna be a long summer
