When the bin needs emptying next it usually gets dropped in there but theres quite alot when you consider what youve picked up when walking the dog in the evenings (2 bags each evening, 7 days a week, 14 bags plus a carrier bag o sh!te is a fair bit to hand over to the bin men )
Heard of something before, a hole in the ground type thing that you pop it in and it has a drain cover, put some sort of acidy type stuff down there that breaks it down and keeps it smelling OK.... Anyone know what Im talking about?

heres what i did......
my dogs get run twice a day so not much crap in the garden.....in fact, they arent even allowed on the garden.
i built a large patio just for them fenced off with 6ft garden panels now covered in climbing plants after 2 years....ample space for them to run and play and sleep on in the summer....and crap on. Its away from the main patio and the utility room (where the dogs live) leads straight onto it.
I then fitted a drain at the far end leading to a huge rubble filled pit i dug under a flower bed....pit is HUGE and filled with old pation slabs etc....and about 6ft down.
Once a day i scoop most of the crap into a bin to go out with the dustman.....but small stuff and wet stuff gets hosed into the drain.
No smell, no mess....once a week wash the patio down with some bleech (takes 2 mins)
Flowers over the pit grow like lunatics and the grass near there needs cutting twice a week in the summer.
Cost about £3k to build it with the patio/drains/fence around it but works great and looks like a smart part of the garden- not a dog loo and what price can you put on happy dogs and neighbours?

davegtt, I have a seperate bin for ours which is round the side of the house. Change the bin bag once a week and just stick it out for the binmen! Hose and bleach the bin every couple of weeks. Sure the binmen don't have time to realise what's in the sack!

The dog poo wont smell in the summer because it will be gone by then. Unless you actually stand infront of it you wont smell it mate. But seeing as they dont have grass and green rocks for a lawn instead it wldnt be too nice.

I have to admit I would probably get arsey if my neighbour complained about 5 or 6 turds left in the garden in winter as this is only a few days worth. I don't think I would let it build to 50 just to spite them though.

Big help if the dog eats dried food as consistency is solid and easy to pick up & bag. My mastiff drops most of his in the forest that he gets walked in twice a day. Anything he does in the garden gets picked up daily and bagged & binned. Pity any identity thieves near me

Excellent thread - or at least the banter
I respect both Flightman and Tiggs so won't get involved (which in itself is unusual for me ) apart from I can't help it on this comment:
Tiggs
LOL Does this mean you are not sure how many kids you have, or they are only 75 percent the size of other kids
Anyway, back to thread.
We have two dogs - a five year old working lab that lives outside in his kennel and trained never to dump in the garden, only when he is taken out across the fields. We also have a 14 week old cocker bitch who is a delight apart from thinking the whole world is her toilet (but 99 pc toilet trained in the house now ).
So, I do have dogs and do understand. IMHO only, to have your garden full of dog crap like that is disgusting. However, it is their life and if they choose to live like that it is not really a health hazard to you and not your place to say anything.
Having said that, if they choose to live like that they are probably beyond all help and anything you said would fall on deaf ears anyway. First on the bus when it goes over the cliff (behind the Americans of course, but I digress ).

They work OK, but you have to ensure you keep plenty of water in it and top up the Bio fluid regularly. We had one and it struggled to keep up with 1 rough collie.

1 large dog, producing 2-3 cables per day on the front garden lawn, maybe 1m wide by 3m long.
After 3 days at current temperatures with 8 cables there's a pen. In 30+C in summer it bloody stinks. Doesn't help that the sun is always on that part of the garden.
Gets picked up (in a placcy bag) and dumped in the bin.
If they have 50 turds, I wouldn't like to think of the flies that will ensue.
Sorry this post isn't as witty as some of the above.

We have a small concrete yard that our Staffy craps in, she does about 3 craps a day which we usually clean up daily but on the odd occasion get left for two days, the biggest build up so far has been about 6 and that was due to the fact that it snowed heavily over the course of two days and we couldn't find them They get picked up in poo bags (scented nappy sacks ) or the freebie poo bags that the vets give us then dumped in the bin. The yard then gets hosed down and disinfected and washed down the drain.
I have to say if one of my neighbours complained about five dog poos in our yard I'd be really embarrassed. I don't like leaving turds out there as it's not fair on the neighbours and certainly wouldn't leave them for more than two days but then our yard is small and in close proximity to the neighbours house. When the dog is at my parents the turds get left longer as the garden is large and they have no neighbours.
I used to live next door to a woman who didn't clean up her dog's mess and it wasn't pleasant at all. Eventually she went around with a fork making holes in the lawn and hosing the dog crap into it, yuk.

We've taken then cat owner approach and take our dog in to other people's gardens at night and let him crap there, it's much easier if you make it somebody else's problem

If you knew what happened to the food you eat (whether processed or bought in a restaurant) you probably would'nt be too worried about flies.

I just walk my three times a day in the fields around here, so it's not really a problem. Are some of you leaving your dogs out in the garden all day or is mine constipated?

Love is.....an adorable cocker pup jumping on your lap trying to give you a kiss, knowing it was probably eating the cat **** in the garden five minutes beforehand
On the subject of fit dogs, our lab used to mountain bike to work 10 miles cross country (no, the dog was running not cycling, he falls off the bike ) with my g/f every day and was mega fit, we biked 22 miles round a Scottish loch with him a couple of years ago, he's also a superb picking up and rough shooting dog and will range pretty much non stop for several hours, sadly the elbows are starting to play up now (his mother is a cripple - years of inbreeding for you - the dog equivalent of coming from the Fens ) and have to take it easy with him now.
