just done a search on autotrader and there's a dealer here in Chesterfield with a 2003 03 reg wrx, 27K miles, one owner full dealer service at £10,993.

Not read all the thread, but 10k for a T Reg sounds well over priced. I've got a 'W' reg 45k miles one which I've had from new and I'd realistically value mine at around £8000 tops. You can buy a new 2.5 WRX for £14999

i got offered 11k by one dealer to trade mine in against a new STI. Mine is an MY05 WRX PPP. 9 months ago, bought for £21.500
But, i wanted a new caar and i knew the price i would pay so it comes as no shock.
On the other hand, againt a X demo EVO 8 i got offered £15,400.
its not a sellers market for sure, but when is it ever

Seems a bit overpriced but not loads if its from a main dealer.
Carstins Subaru have an R reg up for £8000 and a T reg up for £8500 both with much more miles, and i bet they sell them quick.
I purchased mine last year March 2005 from a Subaru main dealer
MY01 (X) Turbo (classic) 4dr 26500miles FSSH etc £10,000 give or take a few pennies.
I could have found one for about £8-8.5 private but after searching for a decent one for a few months i decided to pay "over the odds" for one that fitted the bill.
You will always find one cheaper after you purchase yours, but remember cheaper isn't always better. Personally i found £10k an awkard price last year for a Subaru, not many classics left at that price, bugeye isn't the most favored shape and a good classic of the same year will fetch more money, blob eyes seemed to have too many miles ie 75K+ on at that price.
Todays market ie. 1 year on makes the blob eyes a much more interesting proposition.

I thought as much, I think I am gonna find out some more about the cars history. If it is as he says, it might be worth paying a bit more but getting a decent example?
Can someone give me an idea of roughly how much it costs to run an Impreza? Service schedule/price etc.

If someone has maintained it reglardless of cost then it should be a good example.. *BUT* remember if you pay well over the odds for a car dont expect your insurance company to stump it up if it gets written off.

If they don't have any in stock i'm sure they could help you find something for that kind of price

Ask for Adam or Kev and i'm sure they will be more than happy to help.

I'm happy to put 30 to 40 quid a week in mine and not think anything about it as for servicing your impreza that can depend on where you take it and what you have done, good luck finding the right car for you, i'm sure you will don't rush into it my mate.

Depends how you drive it and what you want to do to it.. If you keep it well maintained, i.e make sure all of the consumables are changed at regular intervals and keep an eye on things... oh and dont drive it like Colin McCrae you should be fine.

Its not a mile munching rep-mobile, its a budget performance car, with budget manufacturing so things will go wrong, your driving style will just ascertain how often..
On the plus side the engine and drive train is very basic and pretty much a dream to work on. People make them out to be some kind of black art that only those who have been selected by the high order of the ministry of master mechanics are even allowed to open the bonnet let alone work on the car, they are nothing like that.. The basic engine/transmission design hasn't really changed for 20+ years.
Look at the offerings from any other manufacturer and they have much more complex engines and they even take them to regular mechanics (god forbid anyone would carry out such a sin!).. And they even use regular oils??? blimey!

Ste Brough,
I own a MY00 (X) with 31k on the clock, it is what would be considered mint condition, very few stone chips, NO parking dents, and not been mollested in any way, only additions are Prodrive WR Sport back box and some 17" Mille Miglia rims, I would struggle to get £9500, even from a fellow enthusiast. Good low mileage ones are becoming rare now though and thus comanding a premium, you also can't really compare prices of the other models as they are all completely different cars and appeal to different people and driving styles.
Focus RS or Escort Cosworth, good example of the Escort will be about the same as an early FRS. All this said £10k is high for that car even from a dealer trying to sell you the "original Subaru driving experience".
If you are new to the Subaru fold you need to drive all the different models withing your price range and then look for a good example of the one which appeals to you the most.
As for running costs (can only speak for my Classic), 20mpg avg, small service £150, big service £400, one of each per year (or every 7.5k miles), reliability over the 4 years I've owned it = excellent.

Anybody know if I can more info on a car through it's reg? T611 CDT

A friend literally just bought an X reg from a Subaru dealer, 65k miles FSSH with a years warranty and 2 services FOC (the big cambelt one and an oil service) for £7.5k...
also try Pistonheads, take your pick:

If you're buying a car through any dealer expect to pay a premium.
I bought mine privately less than a month ago - 1 owner fssh 26k - I paid £7,000.
I'm not saying all cars are this cheap but have a look on autotrader and pistonheads - With HPI and and inspection (which a Subaru Garage can do for you) a private buy can be worth it.
Few Examples from Autotrader:
2000 SUBARU IMPREZA Turbo 2000 4WD 4dr Saloon,
32,000 miles, Red Mica, FSSH, recently serviced, taxed & tested Aug 06, PAS, Drivers airbag, Passenger airbag, ABS, Central locking, Cat 1 Alarm, CD player. Reluctant sale. No agencies or telesales. £8,500. ono
2000 SUBARU IMPREZA Turbo 2000 4WD 4dr Saloon,
29,700 miles, manual, dark green Mica, one owner, full service history, last serviced January 2006, Prodrive Performance Pack, Prodrive suspension, 17-inch Prodrive alloy wheels, air-conditioning, ABS, power steering, remote central locking, driver and passenger airbag, electric mirrors and windows, foglights, folding rear seats, Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser, RAC Trackstar, six-CD player, 9 months TAX, MoT until January 2007. £7,845
