it is (was) a problem on the early 2.2's.

it was caused by a faulty lubrication system on the timing chain. AFAIK there was never a recall for this but if your car has a full Vauxhall service history it should have been changed.

The modified parts were fitted to the engines from the factory from around March 2002 onwards.
