Tuts, LOLER regs state how lifting equipment should be maintained, tested and used. Pauls weight trolley by definition falls into this catagory. He has said himself that its tested yearly not 6 month like required. A lifting point MUST be clearly marked and tagged as such. This is to eleviate people just turning up and lifting off of anything. A rusty old hand rail isn't included.
Should one of Pauls lines break, (it is a possibility and has occured) then the shock load applied to the anchor points is tremendous. They may withstand the weight of a person, but should that persons weight be increasd by a shock load, then the chances of failure are greatly increased.
Also should Paul get into trouble wilst working and require rescueing, a second person would be needed to go down and retrieve him. During a rescue the chance of a shock load is alot higher. 2 people shock loading these untested points is a chance to much, as deemed by all the lifting experts and as such, has been made law.
Although throughout this thread I haven't said his weight anchor is unsafe. I have pulled him up on how often it is tested though![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
The frames I use has alot more weight applied to it and doesn't require it to be leaned against a wall. It has also passed all type approval tests and has been given an EN rating. As for the one Paul uses, ask him to look on it for an EN marking.... If its the one I'm thinking of (a tallish yellow frame, with wheels that have minimum ground clearence and an adjustable hieght loop) then it hasn't been type approved. I have not used one so can't comment on it being safe or not, but an insurrance claim would be none existant if one of these was involved.

im no expert on the regs regarding this industry but i do have a bit of experience with ropes...i was wondering how a 'shock' load is applied to a static line when abseiling...?! ropes dont just snap anyway...most accidents occur because of equipment being used incorrectly afaik...
the whole tone of this thread does seem like someones just trying to **** on someone elses chips...
all imho of course...

Thanks for the reply Ben.
I'm not going to take sides in this as I don't know enough about it. Its just from the outside all you could see was Ben saying you are braking the regs but not explaining how when Paul was stating how he was within regs. At least you have now explained what you think is wrong Ben.
So on the one hand you have Paul saying how he is doing things correctly and on the other Ben saying how he isn't!!
I'm not in a positin to argue either case so I'll leave you to it, nice pics though Paul.

paulg1979 ,quote 'Why should I listen to anyone on here if i'm right.'
Probably the most dangerous statement in this 'discussion'
Anyone who believes they know everything about any subject has a lot to learn.

Check out IRATA's website, there's cases of ropes getting cut by loads of other means.
As with the pissing on thread.. I struggle because of the way some work without regard for the correct way of doing things. A finished building will allow some to take liberty's. That rep gets passed on to us. We have to provide and do everything correctly. We also have to deal with the negative attitude aimed at us.
Sorry if you think I'm out of order, but this type of thing is just rubbing my nose in how people break the laws I try to uphold to protect my workers, public and my livelyhood.
If I'm wrong for that, then so be it.

The only thing I see when I look in the mirror is a beautiful looking young man ready to start a successfull and safe business. What do you see when you look in the mirror. A bored man who has nothing better to do than criticise people who are doing no wrong. I'm sure if you earned more money you wouldn't be so annoying a making crap up. Moneys an amazing thing. Thats definately what bothered you when I posted that I earned £300. ![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)

Jesus. Presumably he's been doing this for ages and has been checked out by various responsible agencies. Why not get off his case and let him earn his brass for a trade that takes a lot of bottle.

My mate's a commercial window cleaner and he earns a couple of hundred a day just for walking about on his feet and occasionally using a pointer and a ladder.
