How do you manage to post on SN without the people that have contracted you seeing you through the glass?

I've some friends who are into pot-holing. Some of the cave systems they have been to are immense, you just can't see the drop because it's dark. One system in France is called Entre les Damned, it has a 400m entrance pitch (that's 400m vertical, >1200ft)

One rope would have too much stretch and would take so long to ascend that they rig it in a number of pitches. In other words they have to swap ropes several times on the way up and the way down. They are only on a single rope most of the time. They take very great care when rigging to avoid any rubbing points. What do you do when the ropes go over the corner of the building? I can't see how you would be able to avoid a rubbing point because there's nothin to attach runner to. Do you put something over the edge to offer some protection?

Paul, if you now post a picture of you leaning over the edge of a building putting something on the edge to protect the rope, I'll puke

Yes we use a canvas rope protector which wraps around the rope.

Well Karl now you have mentioned it I will post a pic of us getting over the edge.

If you spill the water, do you have to absail all the way to the bottom and get the lift up to the top again via the toilets for more water ?

More to the point, what if you get to the bottom and then notice a bloody great smear all the way down the building?

Handles has never snapped. They are metal handles so they are pretty robust. We rarely spill water but yes we'd have to go all the way down to get more water. We don't leave smears we're proffessionals.

I've cleaned the windows at kings college hospital and seen a women having a smear test. it wasn't the best site i've seen. Probably the hairyness that put me off. It was like an animal was living down there. The doctor was quick to close the curtains. I also had my fingers closed in one of the windows on the same day. Doctor was sorting my finger out through the window while I was hanging 5 floors up on a rope. It was his thought, I put my hand in the window to hold me still so I could clean the window and he thought he was being helpful by closing the window not realising my fingers were gripping on. Its funny now but it bloody hurt at the time.

Mrs Taylor thinks following you around "day in the life" style would make a good documentary. Uniquely, I agree with her.

Would you be interested in this Paul?

We are on price work so we don't really get an hourly rate. The qualifications you need are to be IRATA (industrial rope access trade association) trained and you start at level 1 and work up to level 3.

I would be interested but is it a wind up or serious. What do you for a living to be able to organise a documantary and for which channel?
