It's also a premium brand which I know some of you like.
I guess you could liken a Cayman to Warstiener and the Sti to Tesco value larger.

Obviously they are still fantastic cars though.

That post says more about you than anything else and one of the reasons you don't buy a Porsche is because you can't afford one, well not a new one anyway.

Back on topic though the reason the journalists say the cayman is underpowered is because its 50k and has no more power than far cheaper cars.

What is a Hooray Henry anyway? :)
People can be very rude when they're sitting behind a keyboard can't they?! It's one of the reasons why I consider having the whole site private. Anyway such rude comments are few & far between, don't qualify a reply and rising above it isn't tricky. Thanks all those who stuck up for me
So, I thought I'd drop in (as I've been mentioned in the subject of this discussion) with a few contributions...
Firstly, I would imagine that the Cayman is probably faster, but it would depend on who was driving it and the conditions. For example, a racing driver would be fair, but a novice, particularly in the wet would probably find the Scoob quicker.
The thing about the car that really impresses me is the unbelievable balance and immense road holding. It just feels totally glued to the road, no matter what you're doing. The power doesn't seem to come into it. There are a few blats where I would like a bit more, but its reasonably torquey and it isn't a failure.
Yes, its bloody expensive, but hey.. you know, you pay attention at school, work really hard through University, work really hard at your job and save up enough to buy yourself a toy. Puts a huuuuuge smile on my face and that's all that matters!
This was to replace an S2000 http://www.pikeynet.com/03/12/06/s2000.htm which was fantastic but quite scary on the limit. Would recommend them highly, but wouldn't compare it to the Cayman - its more expensive and you get more for your money.. as expected!
Prior to that I had a Civic Type R, TVR Cerbera, TVR Chimaera and a host of fast Jap stuff. I do like my sports cars and frequent Nurburg as much as I can.
Here are some more pics of the car you may not have seen: http://www.pikeynet.com/06/03/04/caymanspec.htm A lot of these items were rudely overprices (£238 for a rear wiper??)
Hooray Henry indeed? I wonder are my mates are well http://www.pikeynet.com/06/03/12/pac.htm ? Personally I thought it was because they worked their socks off and rewarded themselves with silly toys!
PS. I'll be at the Ring on the April BH weekend. If you'd like a PAX lap, give me a shout and I'd be happy!

Nice website pikey
Isnt that a 360 in the rear of the pic of the GT2 front lip? Just I dont see it elsewhere.
Excellent pics but any chance you could add them with a viewer so you can just click next as a lot of clicking back to see them all?
Cheers,
Simon

We toured Germany last Summer in our 05 STi UK PPP, and despite being pretty well loaded with gear, it repeatedly left the Cayman we came across on the Autobahn. Both of us were trying hard, and whilst he kept up (obviously), the Subaru did pull noticably ahead to a GPS confirmed, 155+mph. Much higher and he'd have caught and passed us. Impressive, but one reason why we didn't buy a Boxster - not accelerative enough for the money (IMO).
Cheers
PS During our visit to Zuffenhausen, we saw lots of Caymen leaving the factory - all in Speed Yellow. Nice!

Not sure how many miles on the Cayman - not many I guess, but my STi was 4 weeks old and had about 2K, so I guess pretty equal in terms of "tightness".

thought that both the cayman and boxster have good straight line speed
I'm not sure if that makes the Cayman disappointing or the STi pretty wonderful for the money.

Indeed you do TechArt Automobildesign now do a 3.8 litre conversion for the Cayman, which boosts power to 370 bhp. I'm pretty sure that would be quicker

My whole point however, is if I'd spent £44K on a Cayman, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the Subaru
Cayman/Boxster S are expensive, fairly quick, coupes/convertibles. They're good at going quick, they're fairly refined, they're well built, they're nice inside.
Scoob=Tescos Cherokee clothing, Porsche=Designer. Both do the same thing, but you get what you pay for.
Castrol,
If you discounted a Boxster S on its acceleration, you've missed the point of the car.
Still, each to their own, I used to think Scoobs were great until I got a decent car
