You really have swallowed the NL line hook line and sinker. We are more highly taxed now than for many years and it is getting worse. Why does he want to introduce a 50p top rate of tax? Why are we in the hole to the IMF for £11 billion? And why do they really want to have all our personal details on a national database and also available at a price to private companies!

Do you really think, based on NL's past history they can make it work? I suspect the answer is going to be a very expensive no.

No, but I'm not some nut job conspiracy theorist either. If you think propaganda like you're posting helps "normal" people see that ID cards aren't a great idea you are the one being naive.

If you're so worried about being tracked through your bedroom wall, leave you card on the table down stairs. As yet, I'm unaware of any requirement to keep your card on your person while sleeping in your bed at home.

As for RFID, unless they embed some infinite power source in the card, they'll only be able to track your movements from inches away and to be honest, if they're that close, they probably don't need to rely on RFID technology.

Hardly - they work just fine embedded in a number plate to be picked up by beacons at the side of the road.

Note 3V battery embedded in the tag and the range of only 100 metres. I did allude to this fact in my original post.

Or maybe you think the ID cards will come with a battery installed? That would be a sensible solution

I'm not suggesting ID cards would have RF at all. I'm pointing out that the technology is there to do this. No reason why a small battery could not be included, the one in the number plate lasts 10 years, you will have to renew your ID card at that kind of interval anyway as you do with a passport.

Aside from the annoyance of the tracking aspects, there's also the bloody fact that you will have to carry it everywhere.

I hate carrying anything on my person, and on a night out I only take a sum of cash out, never a wallet, cards etc, so having to carry a card ALL the time will annoy me.

If you really want a case of paranoia, do a google search on OSI (Open Source Intelligence) and then spend a bit of time thinking about how this could be used in relation to the huge amount of information that the government is proposing to collect. Then you will understand why NATO, government, military intelligence etc is spending vast amounts of money on this subject.

its not what they hold, its what they do with what they hold,

imagine if one day you went to make a phone call, and someone was listening,

your mail intercepted, your emails too, you find strange listening devices in your house, your family followed home,, you,d be the first on the phone to the bib,


what then if it transpires, your ID card was noted in a location deemed to be a terrorist hotspot, or area of survielllance, and by default you were under investigation, youd be pretty pissed off!!!

on the flip side youve all booked up for a family holiday, and as your about to board, you id card gets rejected, due to some unknown marker against you in the system??

turns out you have an outstanding parking fine, (which incedentaly has been paid) it puts the onus on you to prove your innocence, after all big brother never lies!!!!


we currently have a quite adequate identity card, its called a passport.

i thought it was only compulsary if you were staying in premises at the time / date of the data collecting, so if you were abroad,at the time, they couldnt get you

I'm a libertarian and as such agree with many of your points.

All I want to say is this, you aren't helping the cause! You're alienating the very people that you need to get on side. If you are as passionate about this as I think you are and you intend to continue speaking out, then do our beliefs justice by focusing on winning hearts and minds, not losing them.
