I wouldn't like to have a crash in it though. It's all ready for a cage, and wow such cheap insurance. £280 a year! :O

Id also look at the 306 XSi, 2ltr 8v, 123bhp 130lbs torque, not the quickest but pretty predictable and great handling plus better safety features than the likes of a 205 gti
Also the S16, there are a few about below 1k, though 100+k miles, if the engine has been looked after it should keep on going (head gaskets are the usual problem with Pugs).

The PAS of a Saxo will fit with a bit of bodging, not entirely sure why you'd want it though, is the steering that heavy on yours?
No pics of the dash yet - got a bit of a wiring issue with the traction control at the minute, once back from having that sorted I'll take some new ones.
227 at the wheels (approx 300 at the fly) by the way

Debating if it's worth (and not too risky to my health), getting the thing turbo-charged, I'm having loads and loads of fun. This is one of those cars that you *can* have fun at legal speeds too! It'd be nice to have a slightly bigger kick up the **** though

Mk1 Golf Gti? There's one fairly local to me I think I can get for £600-£700 - MOT, black, don't know much else. I had a 1979 Golf 1.6 Gti when i was 18 - nostalgia tells me it was an awesomely fast car, so fast in fact that i wrote it off!

i have a swift gti as trackday car. paid £200 for it (with 10month mot + 3months tax!) clutch was broke when i got it (cost £65 + easy to fit). just stripped it out, fitted harness, replaced filters/fluids/belts and away you go! had my 1st time out at blyton with wyioc + was great fun. only problem so far has been gearbox (cost £100 2nd hand). will probably fit cage when funds allow.
i have had xr2, axgt + metro gti before. i didn't trackday any of these but im sure they would be great for the job.
