Got home, feeling that for the money, we had got the best thing on 4 wheels. Stepped out of the car, took a look and thought 'that is one ugly looking thing, but I love it!'
I love my mates thinking I'm a chav! (knocking on the door of 40, it seems cool to be a bit less than mature for my age)
I love the feeling of the thing pulling like a train when putting the foot down a bit.
I love the way it glues to the road in bends.
I love the noise of that engine when it's turned over - and that burble.
I love the 'made in china' interior - it doesn't try to be something it isn't: it's obvious where the money has been spent.
I love the blue mica - a bit of sun, spit and polish and there's no finer colour on the road.
I love how it screams LOOK AT ME! And makes no apologies for it- blue paint, gold wheels, a big bonnet scoop and a spoiler you could use as a breakfast table. Brill!
I love the way the local youngsters look at a juxtaposition as I drive past: old man-young man's car, what's that about?
Sure I have a few gripes, but in a society who's hobby it is to stand up and be negative, I can overlook the gripes and say I love my car!
So does the low sales thing bother me? Err.........nope. Will I be beating a path to the Scoob dealer for my next car..........As I say, for all it's imperfections, I'm hooked

My mrs hated the thought of me having another Subaru, but drove it the other night and now she wants to drive us everywhere!!!!!!
I don't think it is or will ever be the most beautiful thing on the road, but i love my bug eye for its quirky looks and its thrilling ride. It gives me more smiles per mile than anything else I would ever drive. And even 10 months after buying it, I still can't wait to get up and go off in it, and for me that quality, of enjoying getting into your car every day, is absolutely priceless.
And for all you guys who think the subaru is dead, I disagree.
If it was dead there would be no one on here lamenting its passing. I still love the looks and stares you get when driving it around the town, and I think its onwards and upwards for Subaru. Saying that I'm seriously considering trading in my WRX for a diesel astra or something of that ilk to use for work, and looking for a nice white (classic) STi RA. Something a bit more like a roller coaster if its only going to be used at weekends. But I will be really sad to see my bug eye go if it does come to that!!!

I think the next 5 years will be rough for the classics as they drop down to chav 2-4 k money
Every lad at a cruise inspires to scooby/evo/skyline just as we all did well the 40 somethings and wanted xr2/ xr3 /cosworths
if you are old enough your rembemer what happened to the xr2/3s now they have gone .
The Rs / cosworths are now loved and cherished by hundreds of fanatics RS owners clubs and they will live forever
The scoobys and mostly classics will go that way eventually garaged and cared for us old boys. and will become rarer when the chavs smash them up ,modify them to death and give up when the high servicing /insurance costs more then the car is worth !!
The chavs will then move onto the next cheap cars although not sure what yet?
The Classic will survive and when I do the NBO 15-20 we will see less bodykits and stripes and more orignallity
I recomend buy a cheap banger for the weekdays and keep the scoobs garaged for weekends and shows .

As people have said before no Impreza is the prettiest car on the road, I bought a bugeye, the look has grown on me over time. The reason I bought one is, the impreza has something most modern cars do not, that is character. There are now hot hatches from other manufacturers that have more power and are quicker when rolling than a WRX, but they are not quite as practible, as they all pretty much are 3 door hatcbacks.
What I am basically getting at if there are people on here who are after a good looking car. I suggest you change to vidal sasson haircare products and get yourself over to the TT forum, with the rest of the pretty boys, and leave the rest of us enjoy our impreza`s in peace, without all the quibbling about which model looks better than the other.

Just noticed in Auto express that the 06 residuals have taken another turn for the worse. Now less than 40% after 3 years. Thats poor. The legacy's are evn worse and in some cases less than 30% retained value after 4 years. Not helping sales

Residuals are always based on RRP anyway and we know how overpriced UK supplied Scoobys are.
And between 35% and 35% residuals seems to cover 90% of the market. Most Fords, Vauxhalls, Volvos, Mazdas, Toyotas, Nissans and even large sections of BMW, MB and Audi are subject to similar figures.
I think it's the market as a whole.

I have just bought my 1st Subaru (06 model) the re3ason - i love the look of it...
Im not a fan of the classic / bug.....
My previous cars are;
Astra Coupe Turbo x2 (51 & 53 plates)
Astra SRI (S reg)
Astra GSI x2
Astra GTE
Damn, ive had loads of astra's was gonna get the VXR but dicided against it for the following Reasons;
1) New WRX is Sex on Wheels
2) Seats always creeked in Astras
3) cant own another Vauxall.....
Ive had this car 2 weeks now, apart from somebody driving into me, I love it, and will deff be buying another!

Well heres mine, I love the looks, but it had to grow on me, I didnt initially like it untill I saw it in the flesh, this is my second impreza after my my03 and It is a far far better car, much more solidly built.
I must say it doesn't bother me not seeing loads on the roads, and has much as I like the classics they have had there day in many ways and it is a crying shame that they have become an embarrasement, with the chav brigade. I think this will be a passing phase and hopefully they will move on to something else in the future.
And just remember guys not everybody has the same tastes in cars or other things in life, but it don't mean that my views or your views are the right ones.

firstly the impreza has a lot more competition then it did in the 90's. Hot hatchs really are hot now (mini cooper s works anyone? ) so the impreza's main trump card has been diluted. They STILL have massive insurance premiums, (chipped CupraTR as fast as a newage sti in all situations apart from the rain for much much less in insurance). The Impreza does have good road holding, good presence on the road, is very quick in all situations. Very few cars can offer the imprezas ability as an all round package: 4drs, faster then average, big boot, and excellant handling in dry and wet.
The other thing is, some people used to buy scoobies cos they were a cheap alterantive to the M3, but finance deals are good at the minute so people are just going for the M3.
all IMO

A lot of competition to get circa £20,000 pounds off you. Not to mention the 2nd hand market has never been better. Audi TTs, Boxsters, S2000's, M3s all under £20k now and even some 996's are hovering around there.
Majority of buyers will be go for image over substance too.

Whilst i'm sure the 06MY Impreza is a great car, i really can't understand why they made such a 'dogs dinner' on the front. The rear light units look horrid after looking so nice in the 'blobeye' shape, changing over to chav brigade 'Lex ****' style units. What were Subaru thinking of?
#72
People do forget, even on here, that scoobs are very fast 4 door saloons and estates. Not small hatchbacks or trackday cars.
Apples and pears springs to mind.
BTW I would still buy a 06 wrx or sti over any other fast saloon on the market today.

Subaru is stuck between a raw rebel (the Classic) and a grown up car like a BMW/Audi/Merc. and it simply cannot offer the interior to rival the Top Marques ............. the Rebel Classic is now in the hands of the Chavs and it's being destroyed before our very eyes.
How many posts are saying, "Modify" - "Modify!!!!" ... turn your Classic into a ChavMobile!!??
We are witnessing the death of the Impreza at the hands of the modifying chavs with their CockLinks, De-Cats and Re-Mapps Sad very sad

Have to agree they are fairly quick family 4.5 adult saloons. Most cars (excluding Evo's) in that class and with simular performance are twice the Price.
The only way Subaru could be competitive in PTW stakes of the Pocket rockets and "Trackday" type cars within "Safety regulations" Is to produce a 2 seater like Prodrive P2. IMHO

Although his Post it is OTT I have to very slightly agree with it. The STD Classic has become more affordable and within the reach of the Nova brigade. The only two stumbling blocks are high Insurance premiums and over 25's age restriction most insurers impose.

One of the big Australian car magazines just did a comparison between a lot of cars called the 'handling olympics'. It included things like slalom, cornering Gs, lap times and acceleration. The sti came 4th behind the evo,m3 and boxter. When they took out the subjective catagory (they had some points in the test for what the driver thought of the car) it came 2nd behind the evo.

interesting read this thread
But, i very much doubt that IM's sales figures are down on the classics. They may however be down on there expected figures, hance the offer of free toys and the likes of.....
As for the front end looking a dogs dinner, styling has to meet a much more strict criteria (sp) today than it did in the 90's. Saftey mainly being one, and the classic i wouldnt mind betting, will NOT match todays saftey requirements for a start. Personally i like the 06 shape, except the rear lights.
How any of you are supprised that these cars are now affordable to so called "chavs" is beyond me. They were never what you would call an wxclusive car to own. They are a mass market 4 door practical saloonor hatch that just happens to handle well and oh, its quite fast as well...
I think youall should enjoy what you have got and not bother concerning yourselves with silly points that really, you dont have, nor never will have control over.
PETE, as for you saying that beauty was with the classic, i guess that its really in the eye of the beholder, but stylish is something i guess the Impreza will never be. Its never been about it before and i cant see why it ever should be. If you want stlye, you buy itallian, eg Ferrari or Lamborgini (sp its late) not a fcukin Subaru
but this, while were on the subject is the icon

maybe the reason IM's figures are down is becuase nobody is willing to pay the UK "inflated" price.
You can by a Euro car (exactly same spec as the uk car) for 3k+ less!!!
Who is going to buy a car from a uk dealership?

oh well might as well join in i started off with the bugeye scoob and loved it (still think it looks better then the MY06 models) traded it in last sept and bought a MY05 Sti mow this car with its prodrive pack on is a total animal when it needs to be while my car was in getting new shocks on the other weekend i got chance to take out the new MY06 Sti and hated every thing about it the noise has been reduced the steering is sloppy its stays light at all times what ever speed your doing it doesnt feel as sure footed through the corners the new high level rear spoiler seems to produce more wind noise and the 2.5 engine dont seem to produce enough power to me a blobeye/bugeye WRX could kick its *** i could go on and on but that will do for now to me the o6 scoob is a bigger mistake than the bugeye ever was and would rather have a bugeye any day than the 06

fecking heck guys!just enjoy your scoob.
im just ready to pick up my 3rd(new O5 sti),was a harder choice this time for sure"the compitition is getting very good".but at the end of the day its all about personal preferance.just enjoy what you got and belive me i have drove everthing in the 20,000 range and in my opinion while they are good i think if i bought any of them i'd feel second best.as for residuals i've owned just about every hothatch from the early eighties on(15 in total)and apart from an ae86 twin cam the scoobs do just as well as any car!the biggest drop was with a vr6 golf.
moral of the story"enjoy your car, you've got just about the best car pound for pound out there"

Subaru (and/or IM) cocked up.
When the newage specification was being considered i can only imagine that subaru boardrooms were full of chat about which way the impreza should be heading.
It is my thoughts that they had two choices.
to either a) make the car even faster and more hardcore and up the price, maybe lose the appeal of the clients who liked to use the car everyday but take on clients that would be more orientated for a true 'weekend' car that just happened to have four doors
or
b) make the car more refined to appeal for the people who want an everyday car that can be used quickly at weekends
I think the choice they made was obvious......
Now take comparison to mit****ty and their evo... they obviously chose a). The car is more expensive but EVERY review says the evo is faster, its also ligheter in weight, better handling and more hardcore. Now i dont know about you but where i am near hastings there is a scooby dealer about 5 miles away, the nearest evo dealer is in brighton at a distance of around 50 miles. There are now more evos round here then scoobies.....
I think subaru simply called it wrong. I beleive they underestimated the impact that smaller, cheaper, and just as fast round corners and faster in a straight line hot hatches and larger hatches have had on their sales. Remove the Cupras and Cooper S's and i beleive theyre will be more WRX's and STi's on the road......
It also doesnt help that the impreza still suffers from extremely poor insurance charges, extremely ****e fuel economy (blah blah you dont buy a scooby for the economy, well yes, but i expect more then 17 mpg since a cupra will do 25mpg and is just as fast)
It also doesnt help that the impreza ars too expensive to buy considering that for just a little bit more, you can buy an EVO, for a little less you can buy a cupra R.
All IMO

And as I keep saying this sort of car probably contributes nothing to their overall bottom lines (Subaru and Mitsubishi)

The only way Subaru could be competitive in PTW stakes of the Pocket rockets and "Trackday" type cars within "Safety regulations" Is to produce a 2 seater like Prodrive P2. IMHO
Am i allow to say "Cocklink" or is it a registered trade name like P hiltons "That's Hot" LOL
Although his Post it is OTT I have to very slightly agree with it. The STD Classic has become more affordable and within the reach of the Nova brigade. The only two stumbling blocks are high Insurance premiums and over 25's age restriction most insurers impose.

This is the problem: £28,540 On the road (WRX STi D)
Ok so it will do 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and 158mph, but come on almost 30k... thats a joke. There are so many other cars out there with very similar performance for similar, or less money. (A3 3.2, R34, GTa, Evos, 130iM etc)

I'm surprised by how many people do not like the front end of the MY06 cars. I think it's looks fantastic, even better so in real life than seeing it in pictures. I for one can't wait till mine gets delivered.
But, if we all liked the same thing it would be a very boring world.
