my wife and I had a long chat about the scoob on a trip to Wales, this was initiated by separate groups of 17 year old lads giving me the thumbs up as I drove past, conclusions were:

1.) Yes it's a chav car
2.) Interior quality is crap
3.) An Impreza does not reflect an image that you have made it.
4.) Everyone (almost) gets out of your way on the motorway, hardly anyone tail gates you.
5.) Chavs want to race you
6.) You look like a t**t driving one.

...but you know what I don't care, I've wanted one since seeing McRae cain it around the Welsh forests back in the mid 90's and now I've got one I love it, I've owned Golf GTIs and 3 series, they might have the image but everyone treats you like a c*ck in them as well.

My love of the scoob was strengthened this weekend when I let my father take the keys and take me on one of the scariest passenger rides I have had across the mountaintops near Pontypool and the Varteg, he drove over these roads every day for 10 years so he knows like them the back of the proverbial hand.

The car never put a foot wrong...

F'ing excellent car the Scooby, it might look crap, it might not be as fast as the competition (until you mod it) but given the right road, nothing much can match it.

Loved my Bugeye Sti then I bought a type R, loved the looks but hated going back in "time". it's not a "classic" it's "antique" IMHO

MY06 is the best looking newage (but what do I know as I loved the bugeye) but really miss the burble. Holding out on judgement of exhaust note till T20 Performance Pack is fitted

Couldn't agree more Tony Once you get the Miltek on I think you will be more than happy, still won't have the burble back like mine though

Yeh, so Scooby image has changed a little but is it any worse than anything else?

I'd not drive anything fast and german, either new or used, e.g. BMW, Merc or Porsche, as the're more common than Fiestas where I live ( East London / Essex borders.) They are the are the bling / wanna be / status desperate, car of choice.

And fords, vauxhalls, vws? - we've all seen plenty of them chav'd up.

Scooby is still the car of choice for those that know a good drive and I'd still say a resonably rare sight.

A stealthy PPP'd 05 WRX wagon has to be the weapon of choice.

Any chance you could post some pics up please mate?

As soon as mine arrives I'll going for the T25 package and possibly the lip spoiler too. Just need to see how low the lip spoiler goes when on a lowered car.

Cheers

Bearing in mind this thread was about the MY06 and poor sales, it has to be said this is the case. Many have commented on how few there are about, always a pretty decent indication. Plus, for a new car (in terms of front end and dodgy rear lights), that is less than 6 months old, to be offering an extended warranty and free servicing smacks of marketing the hell out of it to sell the cars. Very few other car makers either resort to this so early in a 'new' models life and secondly, change a model as frequently as Subaru do.

And while the classic will always be a classic, the dilution of the modern car has meant vales have plummeted. How many times did the classic change in the first few years of its life? Hardly any. Yet in the last 6 years we've had 3 different front ends, interior changes etc etc yet still the same old chassis.

Cossie's will continue to be seen as higher up the classic chain, as they had a run that lasted but the time to stop was right - thus there are very few iterations of the model. Subaru have had plenty of iterations...

It is a brand that is diluted by the company and by more and more general superior opposition. AWD (and it's not 4WD as many keep calling it) is a trump card that no longer has the same meaning, and as fuel prices go up, AWD and a turbo meaning less than 20mpg from the car is hardly going to increase the demand when an ST, for example, has similar power outputs, a far nicer chassis and better mpg in a modern car, with more dealers and cheaper servicing... and that's just one example.

I'm disappointed as I am a fan - but I also think the company has relied too much on it's past and suffered in terms of both design and development...

They have changed the design around too much, agreed, but they had to from the Bugeye (startled deer) because that was horrible.

The Blobeye looked goood IMO but having seen the MY06 in the flesh I think it looks even better.

The latest change was supposedly to align with corporate branding and is strategic so the current shape should not change until the all new model/replacement comes out.

People also forget about the rallying success that the car is having, look at the PWRC where Subaru is so clearly dominant and these cars are much more representative of the road car than the WRC versions.

True - but rallying when the Scooby was launched versus rallying today and the WRC is very different with far fewer audience figures, less impact and less effectiveness. Times change and it's not as if Subaru are having success in 2006 versus the other main teams...

Perhaps we are missing the point Subaru probably just brought out the MY06 to act as a stop gap measure to try and prop up falling sales. They are planning a new(er?) model for 2007 (Hatchback?) the reality is that unless they produce a radically different/improved car they will probably fall further especially if the EVO X performs as well as it looks. The subaru whilst still a good car is probably only good value if one purchases at EU import prices.

Hi Mate,

The car industry in the UK is going throug a very bad patch, sales are awful at the moment. Ford and Vauxhall are doing especially badily.

There are some very frightening economic indicators which culiminate in a slowdown in GDP in the UK. Unless BOPD is reduced, interest rates will ultimately have to rise.

The basics for the layman: I guess with high taxes and very high house prices people are holding on to cars, also companies are being strangled by red tape and NI taxes they are also keeping company cars longer. You borrow, you have to pay it back. All the political parties seem to make the same mistakes and try and hide the mess from us!!

Let's hope the economy picks up soon in the right direction.

RIP Subaru
I thought the MY06 was ugly in magazines etc, but when I saw one in the flesh I thought it was splendid! It's certainly no uglier than the other styles before it.

Well I have an '02 Bugeye WRX, I put the Prodrive headlamps in it right away three years back. No other mods. I'm tempted to get some engine mods to keep me going till next year.

I'm holding on till '07 model arrives. '06 is too much of the same for me. Anyone seen a recent concept photo of the '07 WRX?

If it doesn't please then I'm going for an EVO. Too bad Honda ain't doing AWD. I despise front drive cars.

Well Haven't been on here for a while and just seen this thread today.
Also today signed for 06 2.5 wrx on the 5 year deal.
I see there is a lot of negative opinions about this car on here but I'm taking advantage of the bad management/poor sales etc as you all report about this deal . I think the quality of the impreza interior hasnt improved with the years but overall its a much better car. This will be my 4th Impreza and I feel they are moving with the times. Yes the "classic" did look good but its dated and showing it , as is the 01 Wrx which I'm trading in. In the same way my Nokia 5140 a good phone at the time but it aint in my pocket anymore. Just my opinion , ready for slating

Subaru uk employees up late tonight..

long story short UK buyers are going to car supermarkets in their droves instead of being shafted in the **** region by Subaru uk.

All those "free" gadgets and other fads are OK but it does not justify the £5000 premium it commands.

people buy the wrx to drive not play on the sat Nav or go raving about 2 extra years servicing zzzz
until Subaru uk realise this and reduce prices accordingly they [international motors]might as well file for bankruptcy now.

if you are a sad nit picker like (me) then it is quite obvious.

Mr g brown changed the Ved bands on most new cars(registered after 23/03/2006)

In this case with the wrx/sti it has gone from £175 to £210!!

£27000 is a hefty psychological barrier to break considering mpoint sell them for £21999(+248)!

good day

translated the spin that Subaru UK splutter out
the extra 2 years warranty is limited to the drive train(and 100,000 miles) only NOT the "bumper to bumper"(from the USA b@stardized dictionary o!?) warranty that's on the first 3.the.
servicing is limited to 50,000 miles over 5 years

f you want to use the warranty to full effect (20,000 miles) then you will expire the "free" servicing after year 2.5.

Nice marketing spend by Subaru UK

I had the pleasure to map an 06 STI with TSL conversion and prodrive springs, it was stunning for something almost out of the box. The chassis is top notch, the engine pulls lovely, and the latest ECU works exceptionally well. Best Euro spec Impreza ever sold in the UK.

funny how some small minded (the minority) buy impress buy it only for looks (or picking up some 15 yr old Essex fodder...) sad really.

if you buy an impreza it should be performance if you want to pose buy a Nissan 350z/Audi tt soft top and some stick-on chest hair and a ***** extension wouldn't go amiss either!
