What's the mpg of the Smart roadster? Isn't the *regular* Smart something silly like 65-70 mpg?

There simply is no arguement to be won about higher fuel prices when driving a very uneconomical car.

I am gutted that i have spent so much time and money on cars that weren't half as fun as my roadster. It does around 38 mpg - but i do a lot of inner city work, or country A roads, which are flat out

The car is meant to do 55 mpg on average, but i am not complaining lol.

Cool

My combined is 36, that's mostly rush hour commute up and down the M1 (stop start). Clear steady run and it goes up to just over 48 mpg

I'm scared to work out how much 8 years of Impreza ownership has really cost me!

I'm very pleased for all you Elise, smart roadster owners and I'm also pleased you smile at the petrol prices. Yes your cars are very good but family and dog wouldn't fit in my case. I work very hard but I still can't afford to run a cheap run-a-bout and something for the weekend (wish I could), so its a compromise for me. I love performance cars so why shouldn't I own a Scooby and why is it such a crime to have a little whinge about petrol prices. Certain companies and the government are making alot of money out of the British public. I thought this website was mainly for anyone and their love of performance vehicles, instead it has turned into, 'have a bitch at other peoples opinions and Scooby owners in general'.

Crude oil prices have just hit record levels on the London market!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4898196.stm

So at this rate prices for regular unleaded may hit £1/litre even before Labours fuel tax increase comes in in September

I agree with u. I have a scooby and a VW to feed. What people seem to be missing is that GB takes 70% in tax. So he has vested interest in every 1p that each litre goes up by. He is raking in even more than in the past few weeks - but you don't see him dropping a few p in the pound on the tax even though he would generate just as much tax as he had planned Where I live in Sleaford, Tesco has was 87.9 and in the space of three weeks has risen to 93.9. What is intersting is that they have gone from undercutting everyone to now being on a par which means they are using it to sneak in extra profit as well

They might be making more money from the rising fuel prices, however, think of all the hospitals, schools in fact every public building that will have to pay more as well for their fuel as a result in oil becomming dearer. The extra couple of pence each time that the chancellor makes on fuel prices would be easily wiped out by the increases in fuel for public services IMHO. You can't have it both ways. Everyone wants something for nothing these days and it simply doesn't work that way.

If you don't like the fuel costs for your car get something more economical, simple as that. Violin stories about people wanting a sports car because they see somehow life owes them one don't wash with me

Did about 1400 miles last week and the most I paid for fuel was 103.9 pence per litre for Optimax in Southern Scotland. A couple of other places I filled up at had it for 100.9 and 102.9.

What the hell, I am enjoying driving my scoob as much as i can now before they ban polluting cars all together and we all end up driving electric milk floats!

Well it wont be long until we paying by-the-mile road tolls UK-wide. Labour are trialling the system already.

Apparently rates will be as high as £1.80/mile or something in peak times - because obviously all those people in their cars in rush hour are just out for a drive, and not going to work trying to earn a living or anything

I am with you here. When the first fuel protests were on, I had broken my leg and couldn't drive anyway, just used to spend my days in the pub.

But what can we do about it?
The government is holding drivers to ransom, but they do it in such a way that no one notices (or cares).
I vote for a SN blockade of the refineries for a week, that would bring the country to its knees.
But who really cares. We all gripe about it and bitch but what are we, the people gonna do about it?

Did you know that 3 years ago for every 40 quid you spent on petrol, only 6 quid of it actually paid for the petrol? So where does the rest go?
Exactly, our mate Mr Brown. To$$er.

Hate to think what that figure is today.

Seriously tho, I think this government has got away with far too much.
I vote for change NOW.
Who's with me?

You really think things like rising fuel costs for schools and hospitals will be met by the chancellor? They get a budget and then just cut their services to us until they meet it - NHS redundancies ring a bell for you?

Even if you got a cheaper car to run, it's still costing you more money than it would have done. It's still money out of your pocket. Do you feel better getting mugged for a fiver or a tenner? I think you're just p!ssed you've been mugged in the first place.

As for something for nothing.... we're constantly getting nothing for a lot in this country IMHO.

I'd be very surprised if it has never been mentioned onSN, but has anyone other than myself signed up for the Pipeline Card?

When? it comes into fruitition, it should knock about 7p of a litre of fuel.

Yes they get a budget, a budget that keeps rising, partly due to increased fuel costs. This increase it met by extra income from taxes, which have to be raised by some means.

Yes of course running even a cheaper car is more expensive fuel wise than it once was. But generally motoring costs have come down for the most economic cars with lower road tax and various other variables. Compare running a LPG converted car (grants available from govt) to running around in a 4* powered vehicle ten years ago.

It's idiotic to be banging on about fuel prices when you're sitting in a 4*4 performance car that does around 25 mpg when there's so much choice around for very, very cheap motoring. If you can't afford to run your car then you shouldn't have it in the first place.

And in regards to the *mugging*, in light of the above the only mug around here is the one thats sitting in a fuel inefficient car moaning about fuel costs.

nah, my scoob can't live without fuel for more than a few days and this lot will lock you up under the terrorism act and throw the key away . You have to be a fairly soft criminal like a murderer or rapist if you want light sentances after all.

I'll just do my bit by voting these thieving t@ssers out. Either that, or just leave the country.... quite fancy the states as it happens.

If they double the price of petrol I'd still run the scoob anyway.... doesn't mean I have to bend over and like it though as some of the Labour cult members above seem to enjoy doing

I'm well able to afford my fuel bills at <20 mpg thank you very much. Not all budgets keep rising I think you'll find. Why do you think council tax keeps going up? Staying in and eating the grass in your back garden is pretty cheap you know.... I wonder why we all aren't doing that?

And when we're all driving a milk float, what do you think will heppen to taxes for a milk float eh?

By the same token, have you downsized your house to reduce your council tax bill? or I suppose you're happy with your council tax as well are you , because it's perfectly clear that all that extra money has been well spent isn't it?

I'm in the early stages of planning my own very large fuel efficient house in Ireland. It will have its own power source, no water rates (stream by house), no council tax and I can't wait to have my own electric car run on power produced by myself.

So when you're shivvering in your one bedroom flat trying to survive on your meagre pension over here, try not to rue so much the exact cost you incurred running your Impreza. It cost me tens of thousands for the four I had.

And Labour cult members? Im no fan of labour, but even i have the brains to work out the Tories introduced the fuel escelator and Labour are the ones who abolished it.

I'll pass your comments on to Gordon Brown.

As you don't give a hoot I'm sure you'll be happy when Labour increase income tax by 5% to fund the 10% pay increase to useless council workers.

The thread makes reference to Petrol prices and it's a worrying factor it has on the health of the econony, if you want we can let petrol prices continue to rise and push up inflation, then interest rates will have to rise and your mortage repayments will have to increase, less money in your pocket and soon thereafter you'll have to sell your Suburu.

Still not give a hoot ?

You really are that sad I see.... can't believe a tree hugger like you ever bothered with a scoob, or even a car at all.

I'm more than capable of affording my silly cars and a nice house thank you and have no fears over my financial planning for retirement.

I'm in the early stages of planning my own mars mission BTW, it sounds like I'm more likely to actually achieve my goal than you though

Labour abolish one tax and introduce another 50 by the back door.... yeh, I really hated those high tax tory days

Mine's quite a realistic goal. I have a nice 15 acre plot to play with, with finances in place, so I'll not bother passing comment on your ignorance and Mars mission waffle.

Tree hugger? Not so, what will you be driving around in when petrol one day runs out or costs 50 quid a litre. You'll be in a milk float like everyone else. And with the praticality and cheapness with a *green* house run by free sustainable energy, doubtless youll be a tad envious when fuel prices skyrocket even further and theres power cuts aplenty.

I "bothered" with Imprezas because I liked driving them, but when I got a little older decided that I didnt want to waste so much money on driving something that didnt justify it's expense. Add up how much ownership has cost you, and will cost you.

And, ahh yes the good old conservative days

Still if I'm a tree hugger, I must be a natural modern day tory if *Dave* is to be believed.

I know exactly how much cars have/will cost me and am prepared to pay it. I know that one day I'll be forced into driving a treehugger special, but I'm keen to put that off for as long as possible.

If you honestly believe that things are better today than they have been, then you're obviously taken in by all the b*llsh!t spin that they keep brainwashing people with! There may have been "marginal" improvements in some areas, but at great financial expense, coupled with obvious deterioration in lots of other areas, also coupled with great expense.

I'm not a "new tory" person myself, they're nothing like right wing enough to sort out this **** hole country.
