Loler this is why so many people are doing illegal stuff and not paying taxes, etc. So many people who work at different jobs and won't pay taxes (cash in hand, self employed, etc). Now I am fully aware that people are going to say they should pay taxes, etc and I have my asbestos suit on I'm a big boy now but car tax on fuel is the tip of the iceberg
work it out for yourself lets say you go to work and earn £10 an hour (easy to do the maths).
How much of that £10 will you take home? If your lucky may £6.50 (if your not a high tax payer).
Ok Now lets times that by 40 hours thats £260 net.
Ok you buy petrol 70% is tax, then you buy things for your house, etc 17.5% is tax, you get insurance (premium tax). You pay council tax right? You pay congestion charges, toll road charges, car road tax, mot, the list goes on work it out. You probably pay £5 - £6 of every actual pound you earn to the government.
You don't need to talk too much, revolution has a cycle and it always comes round in a circle no matter how 'modern' the society. I hope the fuel keeps going up as it will force the issue. If it goes up real slowly nothing gets done all we need now is for Bush to attack Iran then bring on the revolution. So I'm with tree hugger everything else not grown by yourself will be too expensive

If you honestly believe that things are better today than they have been, then you're obviously taken in by all the b*llsh!t spin that they keep brainwashing people with! There may have been "marginal" improvements in some areas, but at great financial expense, coupled with obvious deterioration in lots of other areas, also coupled with great expense.
I'm not a "new tory" person myself, they're nothing like right wing enough to sort out this **** hole country.

In fact your *arguement* confuses me as it's so generalised and non specific almost to the point of being useless. It's some form of non specific clueless rant that doesn't bear much in common with the thread of fuel prices.
My point is quite coherant, and in a nutshell it is, *how ironic to be complaining about petrol prices driving a fuel inefficient machine.*

I'll pass your comments on to Gordon Brown.
As you don't give a hoot I'm sure you'll be happy when Labour increase income tax by 5% to fund the 10% pay increase to useless council workers.
The thread makes reference to Petrol prices and it's a worrying factor it has on the health of the econony, if you want we can let petrol prices continue to rise and push up inflation, then interest rates will have to rise and your mortage repayments will have to increase, less money in your pocket and soon thereafter you'll have to sell your Suburu.
Still not give a hoot ?
.
PLEASE READ WHAT PUT CORRECTLY

A car may be cheaper in real terms today. So are most things (that's how peoples standard of living rise), it doesn't mean that we all deserve to be royally screwed by a government who gives the motorist nothing back whatsoever! So, by all means, enjoy your taxes and be happy
