ouch.
There are some advantages to the price the classic is going for now. It allowed me to buy myself another good spec one at a price i can afford, now my income isnt what it used to be.
They are still not a cheap car compared to the equivelant age alternatives, but they stack up well when compared to similar aged M3's etc. I tried a few alternatives in the same price/performance range and nothing came close in terms of performance per £, cars like the equiv priced M3 had equally average interiors, in fact i found the E36 M3's positively poor compared to a similar price Impreza STi. For what i paid for a V plated STi i could only get a R plate M3 with double the mileage and questions about the £1500 VANOS system, and that wasnt anything like as good a car IMHO.

Well after going to a Jap car meet (Bolney) on saturday i would definately say no!!!
There were lots of Subaru's there, and i don't think i saw even one which was owned by a 'chav'.
Most of the young people who go out, get a loan and buy an Impreza then have to sell it after a few months due to the running costs. (The reason i haven't bought a Skyline GTR, can afford to buy it, but not run it)
The majority of people on here who slate Impreza's have bought them and then sold them for whatever reason, and then spend hours of their time coming onto the site slagging the cars off
If you have bought a car 'better' than a Subaru then why not join a forum of that particular marque?

Why can't people get over worrying about image. If it bothers you, don't just sit there moaning, go and buy a different make of car.
If like 99% of people you couldn't give a toss what other people think of you or your car then stick with it.
Do it for yourself, not anybody else.

Who gives a f##k, if it bothers you, either get a newer Scoob, a different brand ie EVO/VAG etc.. or shut up whinging about it.
These threads are becoming tiresome, get over the fact that the classic has dropped enough in price for knobbers to buy them, but that doesn't mean every one who gets one/drives one is gonna be branded as such, ie is an middle aged mother of 2 a Chav because she has a Saxo for the shopping run?
Look at other type motors ie Skylines you can now get them dirt cheap, does that make a nice R33 GTR a bunch of chav crap? me thinks not.

I think you're kind of missing what the poster's getting at - the fact that there are Classics out there that if the taste police were in order, they'd be crushing offenders' cars
This isn't being snobish, but there are some right nails out there........

I am sorry but that is exactly just what it is being "snobish". People are moaning because now they have the same car as so called chavs and it pisses them off, it pisses them off because they used to be part of a motoring elite and that is no longer the case.

Next year Evo 5's will be 10 years old and will not need a SVA, which seems to be when the value of the car drops.
I wonder if this childish behaviour will be followed by Evo owners aswell?

Flippin' hell! I can't believe this is still being discussed. The Impreza is a brilliant performance car, it is now old enough that the early ones are very cheap. Therefore a few people who are chavs can now afford them, end of story.
As was said earlier, a mum with 2 kids in a Saxo isn't a chav, and she doesn't worry about chavs, so why do you?
If you don't like it, don't own one, leave the rest of us in peace to enjoy our fantastic cars!

Bubba I may have mis understood your post (sorry) but I still stand by that all this is just snobery.
This is just like the situation which Range Rover drivers faced, lots of them pay £40G for a motor ,a few years later its worth naff all and less disirables start getting them ie bank robbers etc.., however they cant afford a newer one so all they do is **** and moan. Much like on here.

I wouldn't be bothered if every single Impreza was a hideous chavved up heap, mine would still be standard and immaculate and the car I drive is the only one I'm worried about. If my car is the same as it's always been, how can it become a chav-mobile?

The original Impreza is the icon that started all the hoo-hah, and it's what still sells the later models even now.

I thought that was BMW drivers, Anyhow I've got a classic shape Scoob and I love her, the sad fact is it happens to every make of car but the classic shape Scoob will always be the first one to win the world rally chapionship, driven by no other than Colin McCrae I bought my scoob because I love fast cars and I also love rallying and to own a car that has won the world championsip, is a great feeling.
Cheers

When I bought my brand spanking MY03 STi there were probably 4 other scoobs in the town. All of them excellently looked after shining examples of the marque. In the last year the number of these cars has gone up hugely. These new cars are not shining examples they are piles of crap being ragged around the town cetre late at night by the sort of individuals people on here love to slate.
I am so glad I sold my car, although I still loved it I no longer wanted to be assosiated to the changing image amongst other reasons.
Before you ask I still frequent this place because I can and because its good fun....
