Mine is a standard UK 99 car and all my mates and that includes the women tell me to get rid of 'that chavmobile'. The lads at football rip the **** out of it. They are aware of how much I loved the car when I bought it was well but they see it as something of a joke up there almost with Nova's and the like.

I use my STI once a week so at least I am not seen in it too often. I find the type of people who say “nice car maaaate” are the sort of people who should have been drowned at birth unfortunately.

Friends and family absolutely annihilate the car, “rat with a gold tooth” being a particular favourite. Luckily I’m pretty thick skinned, the day I turn single however, I’m selling it faster than a granny being chased by Harold Shipman.

Shouldn't the thread title really have been "Has the Impreza gone to the dogs...in your town" then?

There are a few chavved/stickered up Scoobs in my area, but nothing silly - that is left to the drug dealers in their kitted M3's and Evo FQ400 things, and they do drive them like *****.

EVOs are fast becoming worse than Scoobys, contrary to what some people say about them being more exclusive. (and I mean the new shape too)

M3s in London are associated with drug dealers and the bling bling crowd with 20" spinners and certain ethnic groups.

I would totally disagree with the above comment, the Classic GT as its known here is extemly rare. Less than 900 of them were sold between 94-00 in total not forgeting how many of them have now been written off, even rarer is the Wagon. You cant even take a 06 STI for a test drive over here, Subaru Deutschland have now brought out a ruling where i as a potential buyer would have to pay 240€ up front and i then get to take my test drive on a weekend at the Ring, if you buy it you get your money back. Most of the Impreza Classics are registered at the German Impreza community site, these cars if sold usually go to another Scooby freak. I personaly think the UK is a totally different kettle of fish, both UK and JAP have right hand drive cars, therefore is the import market for you guys wide open. Most Germans drive big BMWs, DC's or TDIs, these cars fill there purposes, they drive all day everyday down the Autobahns, this isnt what the Impreza was built for. We were all Boy-racers at one stage forgive me but ive been out of the UK for 13 years now and i dont know what a Chav is , in my day it was the RS-Turbos, R5 Turbos or the Sierra Cossie that we all wanted to race down Maderia drive (Brighton) with, times change, because of the shear amount of WRX´s in the UK they have come down so much in price that boy-racers can afford them and they have watched too much "to fast to furious" and think its cool in their eyes to bling bling the car. Here on the other hand the Imprezas are own buy enthusiasts, who would rather keep their cars in the garage nice and polished bringing it out once in a while for fun. A Clean FSH MY98-00 GT would cost you between 12000-15000€ here. You will see alot more classics in Holland, and even more in Switzerland.

Well its be done so many times before mate to be honest

my opinion is this:

Sure there are twatted up imprezas out there but its like that with all cars really.

and i have spoke to a bloke who would be classed as a so called 'chav' because he was wearing a hooded top and baseball cap.

But i spoke to him and he was a nice fella friendly enough and told me all about the car (STI IV RA)

I like the impreza and would love one and i wouldn't let anybody tell me otherwise

I think its a class issue by people who think they're above these so called 'chavs'

I would say newage drivers but thats taring everybody with same brush

Drive what you want enjoy it for what it is and don't let anyone say otherwise

It's not a class issue really, chavs are generally classless and can be rich or poor so it's not about money or what you can afford.

What we are seeing happen to the Impreza is natural, by this I mean when the Impreza first came out they were roughly £25k and most teenagers years ago couldn't afford them. 5,6,7 years later these cars are now worth £6k or £7k which most young men can now afford.

I am in the same boat with a certain Audi RS4 I am on the verrge of buying. Brand new this RS4 was £50k now 5 yrs later it is £23k and is affordable.

Nothing has changed, I don't honestly know what all the fuss is about. Who cares if people stick stupid lights on Classic Impreza's? I don't as I can remember the crazy things I did to my first car.

Live & let live..

Gary, the problem is you're effectively asking people to admit the car they drive is not the icon that possibly made them buy it in the first place, the people who are happy to agree with you are (generally) sans Impreza now or hope to be in the near future, so they have no axe to grind or no bones about coming clean. The rest are looking at the driveway and seeing the balance of a £7-10k loan thats depreciating quicker than the the fuel gauge drops at Brunters! Not such an easy pill to swallow.

Of course there is always the option that I took, down scale a newer car for one of the "old battered imports" and only use it on track, I have a brown mondeo that draws no attention to me on the daily drive to w**k.

ps, was the postman kind to you this morning?

Quite a thought that on a subaru based forum 50% of the users think the impreza has either already become a Saxo / Corsa (no offence) or its well on its way ......

50% of the users
And dare I ask how many of the members have ever driven a Subaru, let alone owned one? We all have our favourite post where the originator slags off the Impreza (usually), only to let it slip later, he/she owns something else/has never owned one/never driven one/never been a passenger in one/never sat in one/never seen one...

Slagging off the Impreza seems to be the favourite (and only) topic for some in Scoobynet.

I think it says everything you need to know about those members really, as I have said before if I didn't like Subaru, had no interest in them or had gone off them for something better I would not be hanging around posting on a Subaru forum.

Look to the left And I think nobody is slagging the Impreza, just the image that's associated with it.

SN is a really weird place. If I were to go on the skyline owner's forum for example, not being a skyline owner, and started a similar thread, I would look a right plonker. It probably wouldn't go down too well either. This forum would be better off not calling itself 'scooby' net, as it is not a place just for subaru enthusiasts.
