This kind of reply is, sadly, exactly what makes this place so $hite at times these days.

Never used to be like that IMO.

Just a post aimed at me, full of jumped to conclusions that are all wrong, and in fact could not be further from the truth. Why do it ?

You don't know anything about me or the cars I own. I could elaborate and make you look very silly, but I won't.

How I laughed at the 'Oh my current one is an Alpina B32 Touring' comment. So you think thats something special do you ?

TBH that is exactly the sort of reply an inflammatory post like your penultimate one will receive. Truthfully what did you expect? Slating the Impreza currently seems to be a national sport . If you are going to criticise the Impreza then please back it up with reasoned arguement. Don't consider this post as a slur on yourself I am just calling it as I see it. Let's not let this thread degenerate into a war of words, reasoned debate is all I ask please.

OK, I take your point, but please don't tell me you don't see mine.

I made a short, direct post answering the question of the topic 'has ScoobyNet gone to the dogs????', and look at the reply that someone posts.

I'm not bothered in the least about that post, but it does seem to be typical of how some people post on here currently, just waiting to have a go at someone over nothing.

It's a case of posting first and thinking second, if at all, and that can be so damaging to a Forum.

All sorts of wild assumptions have been made towards me / my cars there by someone who has not got a clue. Thats not really the thing to do.

I would be interested to know how many people that still frequent this forum, have actually got rid of their impreza's, due to the SNET-developed poor image.

Seems to me that the success & popularity of SNET can contradict the very reason the forum was started, to bring subaru enthusiasts together for structured discussion.

I was just about to start a thread on 'what's with all the flaming'

When I first joined the forum I was made to feel very welcome and got a dignified anwer to any question as did most people. With the exception of NSR of course. I've been to a couple of meets, r/r days track days, as the forum is very much real. We WERE all real people with a common interest. I've not been to any event in the past 2 years now (since the sad demise of the scottish section).

Now any newbie has no welcome anymore, just flaming from post 1, means most people will just leave and not come back with only the thick skinned arguementative types sticking around (not entirely true).

I learned a huge amount from over the years mainly posting on the tech sections but these too have gone downhill from 'experts' who just say something they overheard at one of the tuners places (maybe i just recognise the BS from the truth now better).

I used to read passionford now and again and thought, god I would even use a forum like this (because of all the bitching). The general section is now just as bad as there.

A prime example, the original post is a direct insult to the community as a whole. Rather than just be ignored, someone gets wound up and retaliates with a personal insult back. And now he's trying to take the moral high ground

This seems to happen on almost every thread in General and ruins the thread.

If people actually turned up to meets and got into the community spirit you'd have a face to put to that name and not be quite so quick to attack people personally.

I think I'm just wasting my time here though I really hope not

I'd love to see all of those who argue, down the local pub! Everybody is a hero when behind their keyboard!

The amount of insults thrown around on scoobynet now is a dissgrace. At first, I couldn't see why the 'bods' didn't do anything about it. But then it become clear! You can't throw people off due to half of the site being sold for advertising!
All the organisers seem to be more interested in adding more advertising banners, rather than policing the site.

I must admit, I sold my scooby 2 months ago to fund a house purchase. Since selling, I have come into a bit more money, so I could have kept the scoob. Instead, (wearing my 'grown-up' hat) I bought a mr2 turbo as a bit of fun. I joined the imoc (International Mr2 Owners Club) forum, where I have received nothing but a warm welcome and good advice. None of this 'my dicks bigger than yours' attitude.

This site used to be a nice 'special' forum, where you felt part of a community, could get answer to any technical questions and generally have a nice chat about Imprezas.

Now it just feels like an abusive, immature and uncontrolled excuse of a forum.

To be honest I don't think the site is managed well enough by the mods.

I have been on to other forums and some of the abuse, language and offensive comments would simply not be allowed, and stamped on in an
instant.

I know you can't be on 24/7 but the intervention of the mods seems very
rare lately.

But sadly it seems to me that most of the problems come from older members who think they are above Subarus and have other cars now.

Plenty of evidence of this over the last few days where you have newbies asking questions and being enthusiastic and then soem real smart answers appearing such as "Don't but one" etc.

The funny thing is I started a thread the other day about how good the Impreza is compared to the GT3 ...... Times from EVO etc etc. Other than a couple of poster's the thread died a death within hours. Start a thread up moaning about SN and it runs for weeks or months......

Doesnt that say something about the place? and it isn't just the old stagers either, its the newer breed who keep the threads running .....

Just so long as the balance is right, there is no problem

Long may it continue......

People obviously have issues that they want airing Gary. The feeling is much stronger than I originally anticipated and therein lies the reason for the continuity of this thread. You make a very valid point about your thread comparing a GT3 to an Impreza, surely these sort of threads should be prevalent in a car enthusiast forum as opposed to 'moaning' ones like this. However people have strong views and are getting them off their chest.

burberry = subaru

and scoobynet is tied into it.

What have burberry tried to do. seperate their image . do you think subaru are doing the same with a discreet model and started to extend its product range.

Well that's what I am hoping for David, but at some point two people with different points of view inevitably clash and then it becomes anarchy! Objectivity flies out of the window and the insults become increasingly childish and personal. So far this thread is doing well.

I am talking sensible about it and I totally agree with you. You dont think why my dads and moms parents fought to keep it democratic and free for nothing.

at the end of the day subaru is a brand, and its got a problem in my opinon. hence why it released a discreet model and increasing its product range.

what do you think?

Perhaps I could show a similar equation.

Well it depends on the type of industry you are in

As I have Monday and Tuesday off instead. But i respect what you are saying. But me as an individual is not a chav. Im talking about the image of the car and what its perceived as now.

What do you think?

Oh and another thing, those of you with brains will understand this, Subaru doesn't have an image problem. Subarus main markets (not UK) are having record sales and records profits. As a car company they are doing very well actually.

I know its a problem thats specific to the UK only. Do be honest I dunno how well its doing in other countries. Do you have data that you can refer me to?

Food for thought. This whole image inferiority complex could just be in people's minds. Suggestion is a powerful thing. However all this image talk could be a moot point now Saab and Subaru are sharing components and Subarus exclusivty is no more. All hail the Saabaru.

Has Scoobynet gone to the Dogs
Troller is looking for a response...ANY response, and he will chum the waters with complaints, insults, compliments, and inflammatory tidbits hoping that someone...ANYONE, will take the bait. Generally quite harmless - practices a form of catch and release. Nonetheless, he can upset the delicate ecology of a discussion forum. Once a forum becomes aware of his presence, however, all feeding activity ceases and Troller must move on to more promising waters.

Really?

I hear what you are saying. It depends on how much your image is allowed to be dented and how you want it to be. But we live in an image style world.

What are your further thoughts?

Do you think subaru should act in anyway?
Or stay the same?

I think the image is largely self-created in some peoples minds.

If I see a Scooby (usually hear it first, slight rush of adrenalin and then turn to see where the burble is coming from) then I "judge" on who is driving. If I see a normal person driving sensibly in a well-modded or standard car then I think enthusiast or like-minded individual, good on them for enjoying their chosen car and hobby.

If I see huge ridiculous plastic spoilers or paintwork, stupid driving, or other general anti-social behaviour then I think chav.

I am mentally sklilled enough to make this distinction. Some here aren't.

I totally agree with you. As people do at first sterotype you in a bracket then react afterwards. Good point.

But the vast majority keep the view the same, unlike you can.

But as a brand of subaru, would you change as burberry have in the same direction? Ie do you think the discreet model as been a reaction of subaru to this dilema?

Haven't read all the other pages of this thread, so please forgive me if my points have already been covered.

I agree completely about all the bitching and the 'i know better than you'.

Alot of threads on here are ruined because of a certain few people, who seem to increase their post count by interferring in posts they have no interest in.

There are far too many people on here who hate Impreza's, and i don't understand why they waste their time on this forum.
I hate all the OTT Saxo's etc, but i don't join their forums saying how much better than them i am as i have a better car.

Agree that newbies seem to be made unwelcome, HOWEVER, anyone who types in text-talk (hi m8, how r u?) etc should expect a slating. They might have a good point to make, but if i struggle to understand what they are trying to say i will ignore their post.

To be honest i think the mods might need to clamp down a bit.

Hope i haven't upset anyone with this
