I am going to assume that you have not 'hard wired' the unit and have it powered from the cigarette lighter?

I spoke to Origin on Monday and apparently it is common fault with scoobs, the problem is that the power feed is 'dirty' ie it has a lot of interference. When you stamp on the gas hard it sends a power surge to the unit which registers as a false laser alarm.

You have 2 options:

1.) Either hard wire the unit professionally.

or

2.) Phone Origin tech support and they will send you a 'gadget' which is basically a small tube magnet which you wrap the power cable around.

This worked for me and it was free, I'm glad I sorted it as the unit almost went through the window the other day on a 100 mile drive.
That's a useful piece of information. If I don't hear from them tommorow I'll give them a call. Strange that the voltage is not stabilized to the lighter socket? In the original blue i unit instruction book, it recommended you removed the power supply from the lighter socket when starting the car as there could be a surge, but no mention of this with the new unit?

I very nearly drop kicked the thing when it stuck in demo mode!

imagine it.. I went from an ultra reliable Bel 550 radar detector which I have had for 4 years to this GPS system which screamed at me every time I booted it.

I turned all the alerts off eventually as it was driving me mad at least there is a fix for it.

I use a PDA with Tomtom navigator 5 on. I've noticed that the speedo is nearly 10% out at 80mph. What concerns me is that after the car has covered 100,000 miles I will have had an extra service on top of all the other ones and the value of the car will have depreciated more than it should have.

Maybe your car doesn't integrate from the speedo to calculate the displacement? In that case it might be right.

You aren't by any chance related to Pete Lewis are you? No reason, just asking.
