Just ignore Mr Lewis - he is full of crap and is only brave from behind a keyboard - he's recently bottled out on a promise and spoiled a big charity fund-raising opportunity, which says a lot about a man's character. Check the NBO thread in Scoobynet general for more details, all six pages of it!

This one seems to be rather interesting, quite intense some of the replies. the gentleman Mr Lewis would appear to be a complete eccentric, not withstanding his somewhat beligerant and opinionated views he creates compelling reading, What next dear sir ??

Question

Right . . Thats it . . PSLewis . .Please explain to me . . But before you do, I want you to seriously give the matter some thought . . THe guy is clearly a bit distressed, and asked a specific question about his NIP . . Now . . . . . Most people are pleased to offer their opinions and possibly help . . . Why, or rather, in what area of your brain, do you find the impulse to be a general tw*t, and a very irritating f*cker . . What drives you??? . .Childhood trauma, playing with the electricity, general bad quality of toys, or did you sniff glue???? . . .Answers on a post card please! I have noticed you since the day I joined SN . . .Question is . .WHY???? People . .Am I the only one who finds PSLewis very irritating???

Pete posts under a range of user names and sometimes on both sides of a debate. Instead of finding him irritating there is a means by which you can elect not to see his posts. This should solve the irritation problem for you.

As stated you need to spend time on www.pepipoo.com

You could try a number of technical angles from whether the speed limit was enforceable, PACE argument or whether the NIP was sent 1st class.

The alternative would be for the say you do not know who was driving. This is a "legal" defence written into the RTA. However, be warned, going down this route will end up with you in court having to prove that you do not know to the magistrate. If they believe you great, if they don't they will find you guilty, if they prove that you were lying you will go to jail.

Whatever happens, I suggest you take some further driving training. The reality is that a scamera van can only do you at about 400m max range - if you are not seeing them at this distance then their is something wrong with your observation. If it was a copper with a gun stopping you then, a little more sympathy - also means most of the technical routes to challenge don't apply.

You need to learn more about your enemy, the road would have had great big camera signs up, it is a dual carriageway recently reduced to 60mph that is all you need to know to make it prime stalking ground for a camera.

86mph in a 60mph happens for one of two reasons

1) You decided to go that fast - see above - you took a chance and lost
2) You do not know you were going that fast - you are a danger on the road then

Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah ................ same rubbish I have read for years now

What it boils down to is this:-

The poster asked how he could 'get off' a crime .. I post that rather than putting effort into 'getting off' that same effort should have been expended in not receiving the speeding ticket in the first place!!

I'm sure you would also help a car thief who posted on here, let me see how it would go now? ... here we go .......

"I have just been caught stealing WRX300MANs Impreza, it's REALLY unfair as I will now get locked up - I stole 'hedghogs' Impreza last month and they said I will get banged up if I did it again ..... please help me get off"

Now, WRX300MAN - would your reply to the poster be different - AND WHY??

In fact the speeder could have KILLED your family ... the car thief only stole one of your possessions!!

Think about it and come back when you have grown up a little!

I sympathise in a "There but for the grace of god" type way.

There are many sections of dual carriageway where it is safe to do 85mph compared to the 70mph limit. Speeding is a risk, and if I get caught then £60 is a reasonable price to pay set against all of the time saved over my driving career. If I got 6 points then the balance has changed and I would seriously adjust my driving style to ensure that I didn't get a penalty that outweighed the benefit.

In your case your lower points limit means that you should have adjusted your driving style earlier on. It is not impossible to drive below the speed limit everywhere (just do 20). The trick is knowing where its most risky to exceed the limit, recently reduced dual carriageway limits in Staffs fall firmly into this category.

Do a risk/reward analysis and drive accordingly.

Pete may always be contenscious, but he does have a point.

We all know what the speed limits are, and we often choose to disobey them. If I get caught I'll be well pissed off, but I know I really have no choice in complaining as it was my fault. Two key things the original poster has said which can define his approach:

1 - He was doing 81 in a 60 - that's a lot above the limit and regardless of whether it was once a 70, tough... that's what road signs are for and that's what we need to stay alert when driving

2 - He says it's easy to speed in cars such as Scooby's given their power - which by definition must mean the only safe car is a Citroen 2CV or black taxi, or indeed that anyone buying a Veyron will lose their licence within 10 minutes of leaving the dealer...

Come on - we choose to speed and thus choose the consequences. To blame the change of speed limit or to blame the car is showing a major lack of responsibility.

If he came on and said 'I screwed up' - anyone help, then fair enough, but he didn't... and Mr Lewis has put him in his place.

Sorry you got nicked matey, and pepipoo many help, but perhaps be conscious of how you defend yourself...

you have to be sympathetic with the judge, and let them know you will go through financial hardship if you cannot drive for work reasons, they may be leniant! But thats only if you have a family and kids,i would recommend you get yourself a solicitor, because you have 3 points already they may fry your ar*se in court! better be careful and drive like a granny in future my son.

A good point the speedo acuracy

My Road Angel say 82 yet speedo says 90

(but I have a long private driveway up to my country estate )

but on that figures you were lucky it wasnt a court summance i think 33% over a ban ?

Just have to pay it and acept the punishment

learn to look ahead for the camereas driving awareness couse /IAM would help

Its just not worth it on duel carriage ways

Here in sleepy Cumbria where we lucky with no yellow boxes the police ecen advertise the roads where the cameras are advertise it in the papers for the following week

and its on the radio every morning the roads that they set up on

Hence lordy is prepared

I missed, completely, the fact that the speedo must have been reading 90 to get clocked at 81 .................. quite what he was doing looking at a speedo reading 90 with a licence in his pocket, the ink still drying on 3 points, beggars belief really?

Ok, i think he gets the point, its no wonder people on here get so pissed off, people just go on, and on, and on and on.

Change the record will you pete, your posts at times are enjoyable, lets keep it that way. banging on about the same old thing gets a little tedious at times, same goes for the rest of you.

Oh, and one last point in his defence, he is a new driver, ie, he does not have the experience that some of the rest of you do, or me for that matter and im only a little-un lol.

He made a mistake, im sure it will be dealt with accordingly

chill, ok kids lol

Hi Pete . . . V.Seriously . . .I will not dignify what you said, purely bacause without fail - you are again misguided! . . . O.K Then . . THe guy was not asking to "get off" the crime . . As far as I can see, the poster merely wanted to double check if the quality of Police work , warranted a watertight NIP - which he is entirely in his rights to do . . Second . . I am not an authority on the subject, therefore I would have remained silent . .However, I would not, unlike some of us ( no names please) start being a tw*t and take the moral high ground . . . Third . . .He did not kill any members of my family . .This is not a thread about murder - which makes your point irrelevant . . Fourth . . .My car is pretty hard to steal(for the amateur), as it is garaged, tracker+bandit glass protected . .Again . . You are digressing from the point . . , and you are only doing so, because deep inside you realise that your arguments are weak! Thanks Pete + Have a nice day!

What does this line actually mean then???

"can anyone tell me catagorically anyway out of this speeding ticket cr4p ive got myself into"

He wants to 'Get Off' ... as I said and as you missed - you really need to read and understand posts before responding.

to be honest if the guy has just passed his test (to fall foul of the 6 points thingy) then the highway code should be pretty fresh in his head. Like the majority say if you do crime and get caught, accept the punishment. (comments like its a powerful car don't really help for the replies either, that would be a good one to say to the magistrate!!)

wrxsti280:
If you intend to do anything other than just take the points then get a solicitor! Do not try and handle this by yourself.

If you really NEED your license for your job then your boss will have to provide you with some proof like a letter. The courts will then NOT ban you. You will still get points and a larger fine but you will still be able to drive. However, any more points and you will be back in front of the magistrates again AND you cannot use the same excuse within an 18 month period, this is the small print for being let off.

And finally, just ignore pslewis. He only posts on here to wind people up. He sometimes has a good point but tries to come over all high and mighty, so I don't even read anything he posts on here.

Good Luck.

I think you DO read what I say

A wind-up is only a wind-up if someone gets wound-up!!

What I state is what I think, my opinion, which is shared by a great many I hasten to add!! If that winds someone up then, sorry, it's NOT my problem or my doing - it's theirs!!

I say what people are thinking ..... because I am big enough and educated enough to defend my position

As always I totally support PSL when it comes to speeding threads such as these (without anyone even thinking I am trolling)...
Some numpty does 81 in a 60 gets caught and comes on here asking how to get off??!!??! FFS Thats bad enough but whats worse are the wanna be anarchists who actually offer sympathy and help!!

Even if I or PSL had a 60 second 'spasm' and overstepped the speed limit by 35% , then I wouldn't dream of coming on here moaning about it .
I'd just take fine/ban on the chin, maybe coming on SN to comment nothing more than on the manner of the arresting officer and the cleanliness of his volvo estate...

courts dont care if you lose your job, especially if your single, they only sympathise with people who have families, and children.Unless losing your job means losing a roof over your head then thats a different matter..

Pete's a sh*t stirrer at times - that's a given to anyone thats been on here for more than 5 minutes You have to learn when he's just on the wind and when he's not.

On this occasion he's not on the wind-up and he is totally...right. All he's doing is stating the bloody obvious. If your license is at risk...don't speed. If you feel unable to control your speed because the car you drive is just too much of a firebreathing monster for you to handle...change your car or get some lessons. Rocket science it aint ffs.

If you do choose to speed and yes, most of us have done or still do then realise that's your call but you're an adult and, as such, if you get caught there are consequences. In other words: be a man and take your medicine and don't bleat about signs, the unfairness of it all etc etc because, ultimately, it was your bad decision making that has landed you in the sh*t.
