It still amazes me the sort of reaction these so called experts create.

Most of us have owned an Impreza for a long time and know exactly how
good they are, the JD power surveys proved that !

OK, it may not be the prefered choice of the average motorist, but how
many of them have ever been in a Scoob let alone driven one.

Think about the first time you drove your Scoob and the feeling you
had when it came on boost, you got a rush yeah !!!

Keep that thought in your head and smile, lifes about having fun and
with a Scoob in it, well it should stay that way !!!

Don't know where you get the idea that people look at Scoobies in disgust, and I don't reckon people are jealous! I do think that the people who glance at my scooby do so because they are car fans and know of Subarus rally success and the fact that CM and RB drove them giving them an extra reason to be interested and that's the same reason I like them so If I have a smile it's because I'm reminded I made a good choice. Peoples feelings about how the car looks are objective so lets leave that one to the individual. Over rated? no way! There reputation for reliability well IIRC, one year - JD survey 1&2 for Legacy and Impreza.

I will also add that I think the 5th Gear review is fair and agree that the 06 facelift is 1 too many! I do think it is time to move the Impreza on a bit. It's a great car but to remain a great car we needed something new not a facelift. Lets hope Subaru are listening to the press and visiting SN and SIDC.

PS Rabid have you tried anger management? just a thought!
Anger management? You are the one using the 'flipping the bird' icons.

The comments about RB and CM is the typical type of bollocks people come out with on here- the road cars have **** all to do with the rallycars and the cars that the two drivers above mentioned drove on the road have sod all to do with the current model.

Believe me you'd be better regarded turning up at a posh hotel in a 20yr old Austin Mini than an Impreza- just as a barometer of where the Impreza stands in the hierarchy of car desireability and respect in the 'real world'. People in general think of them as chav cars- I wonder why?

Doesn't make them ****, doesn't even make this a post knocking the Impreza, it's a great car in many ways.

Just another thought,
"they don't do what a lot of people want in a car"
Well that would be your Focus, Astra, Golf, etc.
As for premium product / engender respect!
That will be your Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley, Rolls etc

I'm not sure anyone could call a revised front end on a car as your quote above, I'm not sure anyone would or could call the new front end as beautiful and not sure how you can stretch the fact that the designer (of the front end only and some dodgy aftermarket rear lights) who once worked for Alfa but is actually Greek to be called Italian-inspired!

Or it it Italian because it has a few swoops...

ha ha. why do people get so wound up because somebody says that the car they own is looked on as a bit of a joke by other people. I own an Impreza but I am perfectly aware that when people look at it now they think I sit in Halfords car park on a night playing my drum and bass as loud as possible. 5 years ago people would look at the car with respect and slight awe.. some do still now but they tend to either be the small minority of car enthusiasts or young boys who dream of driving the car they have driven on their Xbox. The rest now lump the Impreza in the same bracket as your Saxo's and Corsa's with their bodykits.

I'm not having a go at anbody. I'm saying something about a lump of metal. I suggest it is you who is the idiot for getting so wound up.

Have I said I don't like it? I just agree that the look is dated and the image the car once had is not there anymore. The car has a very poor image and the new design with lexus lights and bigger scoops does nothing to improve that. I can just face up to the fact but many on here cant as they see people knocking the car they own as a personal attack

I am selling mine in a couple of months due to wanting to cut running costs and having a car that I can park and leave overnight with little fear of it been stolen, vandalised or various parts removed..

When I drive it in anger I enjoy it still and I appreciate exactly what makes the car good.

Agree 100%. Even when I bought the car I knew I hated the way it looked, but it is only a car. It never goes wrong, has a big boot and goes pretty well and at the moment it suits me. When I finish my house renovations it will be replaced by a 2 seater, but I will never regret buying it.

It's a dog's crap, usually deposited in car parks which causes inferior RWD vehicles to slide sideways, usually completing a loop - hence the term dognut.

I'm the same as you. It's a scoob or nothing. Just wish the Fabia vRS was a Fabia WRC, now that would be a great alternative.

I actually like the impreza lOOks (except the bug eye) and while it seems to be the best road going rally car, that will do me.

After 6m of new-age ownership, i still turn around several times to have an admiring peak at the car i've just got out of.

Lock it up in the garage for a month or dont drive it for a month, then people would appreciate it more. They're beasts, end of, not many cars touch the performance for the money and give rally heritage. Sure it's harsh and loud-lOOking and that's half the attraction.

I managed 25 miels this w/end after only having done 4 miles in about a month. Cleaned it and took off on some of the nice B roads. It was fan-bloody-tastic!!

IMO beauty is in the eye of the beholder and as far as performance vs value for money i think you'd be hard pressed to beat an impreza.

You're not ****ing wrong!

It really gets on my **** when some tosser of a critic takes the **** by bad-mouthing something as fantastic as the new impreza.
I took a test drive last week and if i hadnt had someone there to stop me id have been a few quid lighter when i left the dealership. Its a big improvement on my classic and worth every penny!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and as frayz says, id rather not have my car break down every 5 minutes and be ****-slow just to be socially accepted as looking good!

And yeah i love the way the new car looks and how often do you worry about the interior? as long as it doesnt rattle or squeak when im chasing the horizon its all good!

Just a comment on the interior.

Sure, it's not to VAG standards, but it is durable and functional. Better plastic quality than ANY French cars I have ever seen, and pretty much similar to most other Jap cars, Lexus excluded. Certainly better than the Evo (except seats). Many other performance cars have interiors worse too - Lotus, IMO TVR too.

When I change my E60 530i for a MY06 this week I am looking forward to simplicity too. A lot of new cars try to be too smart and also abstract you from the driving experience.

For example :

1. Rain sensing wipers that take 5+seconds to detect heavy rain so you have to manually turn them on, or that go mental in drizzle.

2. Two stage indicators that sometimes get you into the comical situation of endlessly signalling left and right.

3. A boot that won't open until the engine is off and the key removed from the ignition.

4. Poorly designed iDrive that diverts your attention from driving even to do simple tasks.

5. After 18 months I don't know how the heater/aircon works.

6. A stupidly designed car management system that monitors the cars components in isolation. Take it in for a 10,000 mile service, then 4 weeks later it announces it needs another one for brake fluid, then 5 weeks later for rear disc pads.

7. No through access from boot to cabin (it's an option)

8. SatNav isn't really programmable, so on any long trips I still take a portable unit that I have planned everything on.

9. One of the worst stereos I have ever heard in a car, and it's so integrated you can't replace it.

And this is supposedly one of the "best" saloon cars in the world.

So for all it's plain-ness it will be good to drive a car that I know what everything is doing, can adjust heating/cooling with a single touch, replace the stereo with one that is good (instead of paying BMW for a £2000-£3000 option), open the boot when I want.

i too like SWRT and hope they come good in the near future. its a shame that privatiers can muscle their way ahead of factory backed teams. as much as i like Solberg i dont think hes the man for the future! as for the other car EVO springs to mind but their not looking good in rallying future

ive read this and there is some cracking comments about the scoobie so heres my view as an outsider. the new impreza is a fantastic looking car they have all been great looking cars from day one and as for performance well what can you say??? there really isnt anything in the scoobies price range that can touch it. it is now an icon a car that every other car gets compared against so the scoobies cant be that bad when everyone compare the other cars to them and they dont even get close lol.

i for one have never owned one so i cant remark on the drive ect but ive never heard a bad word about the drive from owners. i wouldnt worry what these overpaid idiots say about the scoobie why let it bother you??? i for one drive a vectra so think about the ammount of grief ive had over the years but its my car and my choice so why should it bother me what others think i have my fun and i love it lol.

the reason ive never had a scoobie is i aint got the ***** lol.

last comment fellas/ladies cracking site

you are all now free to give me **** for driving a vectra now lol
