All i shall say on the matter is that im on my second set now, ive done an airfield day with these, i live up in the hills where we have lots of twisty a/b roads and not a place that is full of roundabouts and straights
These tyres are great they are good all round fun, you have to be able to drive with them though and most people dont seem to want to as they are too harsh/tramline (not that much when they are run in but if you get stuck in the ruts on the road where the trucks have been.....) and once you have the heat in these they just grip and grip
I do know people who drive on lots of track days with these tyres, they do like them (and thats in a 400bhp new age) but if you havent done an entire set then your in no place to make a comment about how good these tyres are as they change once they are run in a tad.

On my Second set of re070's, best tyre ever for the scoob.
Interesting/challenging when it's below 5 degrees, but hey all summer tyres are. lots of fun and serious grip when warmed up.

Nick,
I wasn't really as I've not tried them...I was wondering if Mike had tired them during his evaluation, should have said that maybe instead of being a bit criptic!...

Interesting debate this one.

I've run a set of RE070's in parallel with Eagle F1's over the last while, both sets running almost right down to the minimums. In fact the RE-070's will be on for a month or two shortly then in the bin.
RE-070's used Apr-Oct and F1's at other times (roughly). I do agree with low temps the RE-070's perform 'less well', but then at higher temps I thought they were fine. I've tracked them, F1's, and track tyres and the RE-070s were pretty good on the track though not up to the road legal track tyres IMHO. They are better than the F1's but then you'd expect that.

I certainly wouldn't say they were crap in the wet on our roads, but I do take it easier typically when it's p'ing down and I've got them on I guess. Without a proving ground and some serious G testing equipment it's always going to be a bit subjective, but I don't think they're ever rubbish (any more than any tyre is in snow on a fat wheel ).

What I am curious abut is - has anyone bought these Pirelli Asymmetrical tyres for 17" wheels on a 2006 Sti ? And if so what'e they like ? I'll have a bare set of wheels soon and in the Pirellis are good then that could be a good move.

Cheers, Martin.

Info for anyone looking for the tyres Mike has mentioned - I've just gone to try and get 4 of these for some 18" wheels for the Scoob, and I'm being told Pirelli only have left hand side tyres, no right hand side tyres - and even worse - no plans to make any more ????????

So those considering wheels with these tyres maybe want to consider a different tyre, cos a puncture on the wrong side is going to be a right costly exercise.

for me the bridgestone are sh1te look brilliant but in wet just rubbish, in dry they costantly twitch at speed in corners so for me soon as i have enough money there coming off. i'd say toyo best i've had but quite fancy a set of Pirelli's

Typical!

Just as I'm planning to a buy a set of PFF7's after having found a tyre that comes highly recommended Pirelli knock it on the head.

Doesn't the new S204 come fitted with the Corsa Assymetrico tyre though??

Unless Pirelli will honour that order and then stop producing altogether.

Hopefully Mike will turn up and shed some light on this soon.

That sounds more like the A-DCCD, these tyres dont "twitch" but the transfer of power front/rear from the DCCD will have a weird effect on your driving, until you get use to it

I would agree Tony

I have been running the RE070's for 5000 miles so far and mostly love them and as summer gets upon us they will prove themselves even more.

They do tramline though and without proper geometry settings this can be very severe particularly under heavy braking on an uneven road (which most roads round here are).

In the dry or on the track these are beautiful to drive with and give a fast turn in and grip galore.

I would buy them again.... unless parada spec 2 came in that size

My spec C was awful (on F1's) until the geometry was sorted. May be worth getting it checked, Mine was initially done at a place I have seen mentioned on here, all I can say is that they made a complete mess of it. I was recommeded to try Powerstation who sorted it, even though its a 150 mile drive it will be Powerstation next time as well.

I'm going to get some of those wheels too, and i think I might go for wheels only and buy Michelin PS2's separately .... tyres available for 175 each isn't bad.

I was lucky enough to have had the Prodrive settings done on my Spec C from new so i didnt have any real problems with the handling except when the tyres were new and it didnt help getting the car in the month of january lol

Well that's good news indeed Mike - thanks.
Now I just have to check future availability of those tyres direct with Pirelli, as they do list them on their website.
Hopefully the tyre company have it wrong (fingers crossed), and they are still making them, then I'll have a set by next Sunday, fitted to a nice shiny new car :-)

Oh aye - will post here. Pirelli probably not available until Monday. It was Black Circles who said they'd contacted the supplier and they weren't planning on making any more.
I just don't want to end up with the best wheels/tyres on the planet then find myself shelling out for 4 new other tyres when I get a serious puncture in one of these. That would be ... painful ...

Now ... off to find out how the P-FF7 Bright Flitter wheels look like on a new Sti in Crystal Grey :-)

i've had car for seven months its not dccd as i've tried it in all settings to see if i liked any better to suit my style of driving also my friend has same car different tyres his doesn't twitch as been in each others car when he was in mine in his words "**** me that is ****" while tightly holding on! so agreed with me that tyres are rubbish and feel like they want to give up and let car spin and constantly tries/lets back end go in wet

It isnt the tyres, either your geometry is out or you have a problem with your dccd.
Ive owned a A-DCCD car with RE070's for over 2 years in one of the wettest parts of the country, ive driven it across some of the nicest wet driving roads with RE070's on (im on my second set now), they dont twitch, though my car has the correct geometry settings

Speaking of Geometry.

Anyone know the correct (i.e. Prodrive recommended) settings for a MY 2006 Sti, PPP'd, Prodrive springs and Prodrive 18" PFF7 wheels on ?

Want to be right from Day 1 :-))

Not yet white, but I am almost decided already on going for 235/40 michelin PS2's (Extra Load) separately and getting the wheels separately. Michelins available for 166 mail order or 176 fully fitted at Costco.

Going by the various threads - Pirelli's cam outtop when they relased these asymetrico's, but before that it was PS2's,so I'll just gowith those i think.

PFF7's - how much ? :-)) I'm gonna order mine this week for the new car delivery this weekend ....

After reading the tyre thread it does seem that the PS2's are highly thought of. I'll try and source a set of Pirelli's myself but if not probably go for the PS2's.

They are stunning wheels mate, really nice.

Only problem for is that they'd be a bitch to clean inside the rim with so many spokes.

But then again you'd be breaking away from the norm with those as there does seem to be a lot of people who go for the FF7's.

Well, I've phoned around this morning and had no luck myself in trying to source the Corsa Assymetrico.

Got quoted 140 all in on P-Zero Nero's by a local garage.

Swaying towards the PS2's now though.

Just aswell - cos my dealer told me today that Subaru have none left !!!
Hopefully because they've been really popular and they'll be getting more in.

Tough trying to buy Prodrive kit at the moment

Heh heh - so we're all in the same boat then - nae Pirelli's, which bodes badly for any replacement tyres in the unhappy event of a non-repairable tyre.

I'm now going for PFF7's or whatever they're called, and ordering the tyres through the dealer if they can get them for the same price. otherwise order them myself and they'll fit 'em.

white - you got a pic of your car with the 18" Pff7's on ? Good to demonsrate these things at home before purchase
