I agree that only the Wagon is now non-chavvie ... and the one to choose.

The other point about the side airbags .... they could SAVE your life!!

What price your life? Your partners life? Your childrens future?

Yeah, go ahead, save a few pennies ....

Arguably it's a purer form of Scooby, it's as it comes from Japan and hasn't been meddled with by IM putting in cheap alarms and a Tracker.

2. You don't get a Sigma alarm - £350.00
3. You don't get the Labour free on your 1st service - say £80.00
4. You don't get UK front seats with side airbags.
5. A cup of coffee from your friendly dealer and a nice bedside manner as you hand over the cheque.
6. You don't have to haggle with a UK dealer to shave a measly Grand off the list price.
7. A stolen car
8. !2 month Road Tax is not included in the headline price, nor is their admin and preparation fee!! - c£275.00
And if you buy from others, such as Alliance, side airbags, road tax and airbags are all included in the price.

I will be picking my car up on Friday and I couldn't care less if they didn't even speak to me, it's a car supermarket and I just want my car, not cheap, machine brewed coffee and then having to put up with the ruminations of a false salesman, rabbiting on and telling me where the indicators are.

So pslewis is claiming that although a EU import is worth less than an identical Uk car, it costs more to insure?

Absolute bollox.

I've worked with several motor insurers and none make a distinction between a EU 'parallel' import, and a UK car.

Your welcome

As I said I'm not really a big footie fan so it doesn't really bother me whether the Boro win or lose TBH, I just like them the most out of all the teams in the league.

More of a Super GT fan myself

So the Alliance Euro Imports do come with side air bags.

So they save your life, and save you money.

Best of both Worlds.

Bought mine from Allbrandsnew last July

Maltese import

MY 05 Wrx 4dr

Undersealed
Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser
Tracker
Side Air bags
Climate Control
SWRT Interior
SWRT Foglight covers
Sat/Nav

OTR £18,000

UK car a minimum £3k-£4k dearer(I looked around and UK dealers couldn't get close to that price)

Insurance through Direct Line, same as a UK car

Warranty, yep got one of those as well, registered on IM database.

Take no notice of the scare mongerers and buy an EU import.

Did the same a few years ago with an import ZX6R and lost nothing at trade in time against another Jap bike from a different dealer.

Five year/50,000 miles free servicing
Five year/100,000 miles extended warrenty
RAC Trackstar and Smart NAV
Bluetooth Hands free phone kit
Five years Road Side Assistance

£20,945 on the road.

Yeah, already dismissed it as a load of overvalued desperation from IM.

Yes but again is this worth the aprrox £5K difference
THe EU (cyprus) imports come with 5year transmission warranty anyway
Comments on here say RAC trackstar is crap (better fitting a Tracker)
The Smart Nav is crap and only lasts a year
Not sure if the 5 yrs roadside assistance is as comprehensive as the AA anyway e/g . relay

You can buy an ipaq sat nav or MIO A701 GPS phone for a few hundred quid.

So it looks like the only thing worth having is the Free servicing. My MY05 EU has only cost me £128 first service and £197 for 12month service at a main dealer so unless you do high mileage can't see yuo saving that much overall

Anyway if more people bought at euro prices eventually the price for UK cars will come down so we can all buy from main dealers

Having read this thread and the comments about re-sale values of eu imports being lower than UK models, I think people are looking at it from the wrong angle. Surely the resale value of UK cars that are bought for £20,000 will be hit by the fact that you can buy a brand new car for £14,500!

None as far as I'm aware between Euro and UK spec vehicles, it's the JDM cars that have slightly higher BHP.

It will be interesting to see re-sale values of these cars in a couple of years, if they're going new for £14.5k should be around £9-10k I'd have thought, which has got to be a very tempting buy!

Underseal you can do yourself, but shouldn't cost more than £80-100 if you get someone else to do it. Sigma S30 Cat 1 alarm, which is the newer version of the M30 used by IM/Subaru UK can be had for £220 fitted inc vat. Locking wheels nuts are McGuard and are IRO £30. Various tracker units available, but only fit one if your insurers require it. Let's face it, you probably don't want it back if they knick it. A better option is the Clifford Blackjax, available as a standalone item, or as part of a Clifford system. Standalone units can be had for £130-180. Scoobs can't be knicked without the keys or a tow, so with Blackjax even if they get the keys they won't get more than a few hundred yards.
Where could I get underseal done? and what is it?

I have a euro from motorpoint, they're sh'te. Only good thing about them is the price. Service is attrocious. Still waiting for service book 7 weeks on. Which reminds me, I think I'll kick off when I get home.

What a car for the money!

In my opinion though this is de-valuing the car, surely uk supplied cars when priced on the used market are still being affected? Is this contributing to low Impreza residuals?

Picked mine up today from Motorpoint Glasgow, hassle free and £6k to the good! I tend to keep my cars for 5 or 6 years or 100k miles which ever comes first,at which point they're worth small money anyway. From where I see it it's a bargain.

When I was looking around (Wanted to go to a dealer as opposed to private) my local main dealer wanted three and a half grand more than I paid for my car, for a car which was six months older with similar milage. Hence I went for the Euro import from a well known performance car specialist.
To me that kind of saving is always going to seem more favourable than possible future losses.

7. A stolen car
8. !2 month Road Tax is not included in the headline price, nor is their admin and preparation fee!! - c£275.00

BUT You do get:-

1. Underseal (on Maltesers from Liaco anyway)
2. If you buy from Motorpoint their manner is businesslike but never unpleasant.
3. More comfortable front seats.
4. A £5,000 saving on list without asking.
5. A 3 Years Manufacturers Warranty.
6. Exactly the same car as from a UK Dealer. No difference except for the comfy seats.

As far as Insurance is concerned they are parallell imports and are treated the same as UK cars by most. My insurance is with Barclays £415 for my WRX Wagon.

UK dealers are more than happy to take your money for Servicing & repairs. Why wouldn't they be?

You pays your money and takes your choice. If you are more comfortable shelling out and buying from a dealer then go for it. If you want to save a wedge of cash up front then Motorpoint are fine or maybe Lichfields would offer you more of a bedside manner if thats what you crave.

It's your choice but don't listen to some of the bollox posted on here about drastic reductions in resale value or insurance companies charging extortionate premiums or the cars being stolen as it is all nonesense.

Only get a Wagon they are far superior to the saloon
Agree with all of that as it applies to my 2-day old My06 (well apart from the bit about the wagon ) The only gripes I have so far is the lack of mats (even paper ones), and there are lines where the film was peeled off but this will come off when I give it its first wash at the weekend.

Anyone who still buys from the dealer these days is bonkers (or has too much moey to waste!)
