Burnt badly? Bit of an overstatement. The post was only made yesterday so you have no idea of what the problem is yet. It will mostl likely turn out to be a simple problem and he has saved himself a shed load of cash.

Fully factual crap from the old codger as per usual, what a ***.

i think if i was buying now i might have gone UK (they now offer 5 year warranty + Labour!!) and free sat nav. but then again the Canterbury dealer has just stopped selling subarus- they now do Isuzu instead.

very happy with the EU WRX. would love PPP though

then you got a good deal - well done.

My local dealer couldn't get any closer than £4k above the motorpoint price of £15500 OTR. Not his fault - there is no point in him selling to me at a loss....he will make the money on servicing and the mats I bought!

I paid £24k for an Sti - I think the WRX's were £18k IIRC

With the Sti, there was around £1k in it when compared to the supermarkets otr to the same spec.

Thats not bad £1,000 buys a fair bit of comfort if you are buying from a dealer.

How can a dealer sell Parallell imports though?

Won't IM get miffed??

Can't you tell us the dealer you bought from?

The dealer was Bachelors of Pickering. I'm not really sure how they can sell imports, but they're not hiding the fact!

Yes.

I think Alliance and allbrandsnew are first owner though. Depends where you live - South Wales to Hull is 5 hours each way....

Why couldn't they just register the car in your name if your buying a brand new one or are you talking about buying a one that they already have in stock.

I think what happens is they are the first owner because they buy the car from an european dealer, and alliances etc. details are put on the paperwork. But if you ordered from a european dealer and were willing to wait you would be the first owner. Alliance and litchfields will charge a bit ectra than you doing it yourself but then they tak all the hassle out of all the organisation and paperwork.

My girlfriend is looking for a parallel import 06MY 2.5 WRX in Metallic Black. We have read all the pros and cons of buying parallel and shes decided that this is the right way to go. The only question is which supermarket is better for getting this particular car?
I have looked round a few websites and called several supermarkets to find the following:

Motorpoint have the cheapest price £14999 cash but no black cars in stock in the forseeable future. I have read some bad things about their service and forwarding of documents such as log books on scoobynet. How do members rate Motorpoint?

Alliance - £15995 - have plenty of stock, will they reduce the price a little more for cash?

£15495 at Motordepot, can be had for £14495 but you have to purchase using their finance agreement so the cash price is still £15495!

Litchfields are more expensive again.

So what is the solution, where is the best place to get the car from???

Cheers
Ben

Those are 2005 models, without the MY06 grill and the 2.5 litre engine.

I ordered a brand new STI last saturday ... I checked out motordepot and motorpoint and got a price of £22k OTR from motorpoint .... this was to include the fitting of the alarm and tracker, but I was also told by motorpoint that the import would need the underseal doing too ... I then went to a main dealer, test drove the STI and sat down with my deal from motorpoint and asked them if they could come close to matching it ... To be fair they came pretty close ... got a few grand more on the part ex value of mine and got them to drop their comission and throw in extras (petrol etc) until I felt that I was getting a better deal all-round from the dealer.

Apparently things are pretty slow in the trade at the moment so they are much more likely to give you a better deal if you do your homework properly and haggle. Had heard all kinds of horror stories about limitations on import warranties (no doubt propegated by the dealers) but in the end I just felt that if I had got the import I would have not been getitng the real thing (rightly or wrongly!!) and was happy to pay that little bit extra to not have the hassle of getting all the extra bits added on ...

Only problem now is I still have to wait another 1-2 weeks for my new car ... is driving me nuts! ... I want it now ... yes typical girl I know!!

When I've enquired with certain outfits about undersealing they have told me that the Euro imports come with full corrosion protection as standard. They basically get the same anti-corrsosion factory warranty as a UK car would which I believe is something like 11 years. Not too sure on that.

From my experience I can't recommend Alliance at all. Bunch of timewasters and weren't really bothered to help in my situation. I ended up canceling my order in the end.

Heard they are getting out of Subarus anyway so you'd be better off somewhere else.

This is a very restrained response btw.
