Pardon? I couldn't hear that cos my ears are shattered and bleeding
My first F1 session and it was....... special. No, that word doesn't convey the emotion. I was like a little kid... I've just heard my answer machine message to Katrina and it sounds like in betwen the giggling, I'm about to cry. And that was before we got on to the complex and then into the Grandstand...
TV does not do the sound and cornerning speeds any justice. Everytime one of them went past or came into the pits I just shook my head in awe...and my pint visibly shook with the physical prescence...
Of the teams there (Mclaren, Renault, Williams, Red Bull and Honda) the Mclaren looked and sounded the best. However the Renaults were visibly faster through Copse. Standing at Woodcote and looking down the start straight, the cars simply vanished round copse without lifting.... This looked unbeleivable from a distance... closer up stood on copse, this was simply awesome...
The bridge, luffield complex meant you could catch the cars at a lower speed before they floored it through Woodcote... This was my favourite point as the cars were pretty damn close...
We saw the 5 teams circling for 5+ hours and for a free day, I cannot think of anything better to beat it. The Grandstand was free and you could go wherever you liked on the east side of the course.
Before we got there however....
we had the trip down.. After a trouble free journey down there, we doubled back out of an almost empty Silverstone car park to head back for a greasy spoon... The brekfast was definately a highlight... NUMBER 22!!!!
The tannoy in the cafe gave us a good warm up to the noise from Silverstone as everytime the woman shouted into the 600w tannoy, we had to stop talking...
Martin's drive from the cafe back to Silverstone also gave us a good warm up as to the high speed, slicing and dicing with traffic manouvers we were to see throughout the day.... In fact some of Martins lane changes wouldn't have looked out of place on the circuit.. We could smell the clutch and brakes a good few minutes later as we arrived more sedatly in the Polo. It was great to see his passengers crying with the relief at being alive.....
Big thanks to Dave for pointing this day out and for all those who were able to make it at short notice....
Pictures to follow....

Great day and thanks to you all for making it at such short notice. I know most have work commitments midweek and was expecting it to just be Helen & I as usual, but it was much more fun with a gang of like minded petrolheads. I'll try and find out when there's another, maybe this year, maybe next, and I'll definately go again.

Twas a brill day! Cheers for the heads up. Forgot to take my camera So all the pics I took are a bit wobbly from my phone. Some nice ones from Honda F1 ops.
But, and here is the interesting bit, whilst I was there I got talking to the MD of the comms company and he said that he could arrange a 3 hour tour of the whole Honda F1 centre for a group of us............ So I was wondering if any of you would be interested? Cant guarantee anything and am just trying to gauge numbers/interest so I can arrange it.

Would certainly be up for that.
And where the hell was the Honda F1 ops?
PLEASE don't tell us that the pit lane was open to everyone during the lunch break...
Methinks a little more WYIOC exploration would have paid dividends.

No dont panic. The F1 ops centre is just down the road from Silverstone in Brackley. I tried to blag it accross the bridge too, but that didn't work. Went to Honda around 12:30 to mi conference and was given a pass, which I was then told would have got us accross the bridge at Silverstone! Grrrrrr
Unfortunately didnt leave Honda till 5pm so was no use and was only valid on the day of issue. Still got the pass though as a nice reminder.

Jonny, sorry we didn't manage to hook up but it looks like you still had a good day, even if it was w*rk. As the WYIOC's most boring F1 fan, I'd deffo be up for the trip suggested Let us know how you get on and what sort of numbers are involved and we'll make it happen
