absoultely right mate and a valuable point that many people miss. THe more bhp you have to start, the more you have to get in order to make a significant difference.

For illustration a 225 bhp WRX is not necessarily as twice as quick as a 1.8 Vectra (weight aside).

A difference in 20-40bhp in similar weight high powered cars will not translate to a huge amount of yardage on that private road that we all so frequently visit.

True to a point but what is more relevant is where in the revrange that power advantage lies. For example two cars of same power and torque but one produces it's peak at 4000 rpm the other at 6000, who is going to have a clear advantage?

I did a 13.1 0-100 today in the LCR - could that explain it?
Sorry, but I have to confess that that was with Revo on it - got the 5 hour trial put on yesterday, and it's fairly impressive, as someone said earlier, would've made life a lot more difficult for that Sti - he'd probably not have kept up at all. When you're racing on the road though, braking, lines for corners, skill, gearchanges etc all eat that up - always down to the driver IMO. And as i said before, the Scooby does inspire a little more confidence with very high speed traction/handling - whether this is a good thing though i don't know - prefer to have the car's jitters holding me back from thinking it/me are better than they are, prior to hitting a lampost!!

A friend couldnt get less than 15.6 standing quarter from his LCR, and 15.2 Revo'd, then blew his gearbox on the same day.

Lovely car, lacks performance IMO. My old 1.6 civic ran 15.6 with 160bhp.

P1 ran 13.4 when standard.

RWYB coming up at Shakespeares !!

The only thing lacking performance wise is traction at the start - they go very well standard - not in the same league as a P1 really.
Yep, i've done Shakespeare a couple of times, may visit over the summer.

No difference really between 210 and 225.

Quickest 1/4 for standard LCR so far is 14.6
Quickest 1/4 for chipped 265bhp LCR is 14.1

Times are confirmed on seat cupra.net.

1/4 mile is never going to be in favour of a powerful heavy FWD hatchback! A 1km or even mile and that is when cars like a focus RS and LCR will shine!

It doesnt put the performance into perspective, they are near impossible to launch properly but very quick on the move!

Saxos and the like can get into low 14sec 1/4's no problem meaning performance is similar in a 1/4 mile race. Extend the track though and these kind of cars will be ''found out''

Chipped LCR's are no quicker to 60 than standard really due to severe traction problems meaning mid range 60-100 comes in at or around 7- 7.5 secs!

I think you'll agree 7 sec 60-100 is pretty quick and your going to need to be in something special to show it a pair of heels!

If you lived in Teesside Sulli with Revo on your LCR you could rule the local Scooby bods we must have the slowest scoob population in the whole of the country. Glad you enjoying the LCR dont worry about the new scoobs its the classics you have to watch.

All Scoobies worry me - they're all damn quick, I just wish they were all driven by half decent drivers without attitudes. This one was a nice car with a decent driver with the right attitude, friendly duel, didn't really matter who edged it.
I must say the Revo trial is now tempting me to a remap though - when rolling it'd need to be a very quick Scooby to keep with a rempapped LCR. The Scooby always catches up on those dreaded twisties though

Now why have I had to wait so long for this response?
I thought I could always rely on ScoobyNet for some old bore to patronise me within a few seconds of such an irresponsible post
For the record, no other cars involved, two willing participants, one of which i know was an advanced driver, the other in a car which we all know can be driven quick by anyone

Well clearly there was no other cars involved, because if there was someone would probably be dead by now.

These posted are always posted with great hindsight and absolutely no foresight!

If you had some intelligence I might give you some credence, but your grammar is flawed - it's 'were' not 'was', I won't go on, as I guess grammar wasn't the same when you were at school. So I must relegate your comments to where they should be, the 'Grumpy old Scoobynetter with no Scooby' bin.
I'm glad you have taken the time to reply. Twice as well! Made my day Go on, make it a hatrick, but this time say something funny

Hey Sulli - respect due, as it does seem your car has huge torque, and once on the move I can imagine it really goes well...

...but hey, people in glass houses, etc....we all make mistakes with grammar and spelling on message boards...excitement of getting the message typed up I suppose!

Anyway, post some pics of your car - would love to see it. Out of interest, what's the 30-70 time?

Cheers

645.

PS. I didn't say you tried to prove something, I said your assertions were unprovable! (well maybe they're not, actually...if we got that STI owner on here and he confirmed spec of said STI/story of road race/etc.)

I find it strange that you choose to have a go at my spelling, and my supposed age (hate to disappoint you sunshine but I'm not that old), rather than what I said, and we both know why, because it's actually pretty difficult to justify your actions.

Who was the advanced driver by the way? No advanced driving course that I know of encourages people to race on the public roads.

Why not just take it to a track, that way we'll feel and be little bit safer.

I might be an advanced driver, doesn't mean I listen to everything Roadcraft says If everyone followed the rules it'd be a boring old world. Nobody hurt, smile on two people's faces, two cars happy to be driven as they sould be. Now where's the harm?

What is Martin´s beef! Most sensible and genuine petrolheads will take on an ´encounter´ on the public road as long as they feel the conditions allow for such an activity and the other driver is of like mind and not a total moron.

There are a number of well respected members of this board, some of whom hold very respectable jobs, that have posted similar tales (search will reveal all). They do so not because they are spotted nova drivers in disguise but because they are responsible car enthusiasts. They post here because this is a car enthusiasts site. Seems fair play to me.

OK I get it now I'm in the wrong. I will from this day forth race any car that I wish, and **** the consequences.

Honestly the bollocks written on this site beggars belief, what the **** does what people do for a living have to do with it?

Did you REALLY mean people race on public roads because they are car enthusiasts....REALLY??

Anymore cretins on this board wish to have a go at me because I think it is utterly irresponsible, dangerous and childish to race cars on public roads...honestly everything has gone through the looking glass on here

Come on guys let have a small amount of sanity returned to these boards

Oh, and if you're going to have a go at my spelling and grammar matey (as your only defense) at least make sure yours is up to scratch first...bloody hypocrisy..don't you just love it.

No that was me being pedantic Martin - the main defence is that you're a bit of bore - what are you doing on here? As Saxo Boy said, people with fast cars tend to do this. is it right? In some people's eyes, no. But there's conflicting opinions on everything in society. The main point is two consenting adults, and no-one got hurt......I guess that'll merit another quoting of me and my latent homeosexuality

Driven a 225 LCR and was VERY impressed... it was bog standard, 4k miles.

I would love a shot of a re-mapped one, I think it may well tempt me away from my planned move back to a Jap 4WD motor.

Cheers,
Grant
