I think odd one-offs (drunk at a party, stag weekend in Prague) are probably more acceptable, but having an ongoing affair with someone is pretty despicable because you are breaking all the emotional trust.

Jaimie Mcdonald quotes those famous words......"it didn't mean anything ".
I don't and never will understand those words.
The deed is done, it happened. That's enough to make a difference.

Talking

I was screwed over a bit

I went off to Africa working when I was 16, came back to my girlfriend who i'd been with for 6 months. Very young blah blah blah I hear you say.

Anyway we stayed together until we were 19 just before she went to University. She wanted to go off on a wilderness expedition to South America fo 6 weeks before the end of the summer.
Because she stood by me when I went off I gave her all the support she needed, helped her raise money etc.
Because it was a climbing expedition run by the TA she had to go away for a couple of weekends to do some tecnical training in ropework etc, but she came back from a couple of these weekends telling me about some guy called Chris. Alarm bells should have rang then really.

Anyway she was due to come back the day before we got our A level results,
and I was waiting at home for the phone call to say she was at the station where I was going to pick her up. What hurt about it all is that we did all the growing up stuff together, learnt to drive, bought our first cars etc.

Heard nothing until the next day when i bumped into one of her mates who said it was not like me to come out on the p1ss with them all, how is Becky today?

Huh?
She phoned me a couple of hours later and said I think we both know whats coming don't we?
Huh?

Anyway i dropped all the **** she'd left at my house and never saw her again. She e mails me once in a while but I've never replied, far as I know she lives in London doing a PHd and she lives with her uni lecturer. Once she left I got rid of the lot, joined the army and bought my first Scoob!!! And she always said that she could never be proud of me, I have nothing to worry about on that front now. The other thing that wound me up was i worked really hard to get her on that expedition and she goes off humpin some bloke off it!
Got a crackin missus, a crackin car and love my life to bits!!!!!!!!!!!
Even got a dog!

I have never cheated in my life and to be honest even if I *thought* I would get away with it the guilt would just eat me up. My last g/f of 5 1/2 years did the dirty and I was completely destroyed by it so I know what its like to be on the receiving end. Can you carry on? I dont think so once someone has lied to you how can you ever trust them, just one late night or not being where they say and the doubt would creep straight back in.

Ideal world
It should not happen it is a respect and trust thing a relationship should be built on trust and respect for each other and each others feelings

Real world
Cheating happens for many reasons.

Cheating on your partner is a dangerous game, I've found just secretly having sex with other women a lot safer

disclaimer:- Jackie my darling I only posted this for the comedy value it may have, and have not and will not ever do such a thing

I cheated on my ex wife (was a drunken kiss at a works do) and I felt so bad I nearly told her!!! We have since split up (hence the ex) due to different reasons and Ive found 'the one'.

Sarah is a cracking girl and we've been together for 4 years and been married for 7 months. When we first got together I thought she was really nice but the bonus was she is a stunner with cracking bazoomers!!!

Ive always been a very secure person but since we got married I find myself, from time to time, thinking the worst due to Sarah being so beautiful and me not being the best looking bloke in the world. If she goes out she will tell me of blokes that have chatted to her and been really nice but due to the fact that she is a touch naive sometimes I dont think she realises that some men are trying it on.

When Sarah goes out I like to know who she goes out with so I know she is safe. There was a guy (a bit older than us) was out with them and as Ive known him for about 10 years I thought she would be safe with him cos a) hes a mate and b) he was driving so wouldnt drink. It turns out (long story short) that over months he had been sending sarah texts and changing his plans so he could go out with her and her mates but also (from a friend of his) I found out he thought he was getting somewhere because she would spend all night talking to him blah blah.

Although I know she would never do anything it does make you worry

Yes to be honest f I can never understand why women can be so naive in those circumstances ( and this is not a generalistaion girls!) but when I found that my ex had done the dirty and it all came out, sure things had got stale, sure I had faults but what she said and the number of times Ive heard other girls say 'but he was so kind and thoughtful' to which I say OF COURSE HE IS, he's trying to get in your pants! *that* is the reality of the situation, harsh yes but I'm a bloke and I know how *every* other bloke out there thinks but girls sometimes just do not see it.

Never cheated and never will. One strike and you're out on both sides of the relationship which suits me.

If you read properly then you won't find everyone is saying what you think.

Like I said, the relationship - which was not particularly that serious (she wouldn't even let me meet her parents ) - was over soon after 'the deed'. In fact, it was probably already coming to it's end anyway.

I am older and more mature now, and would never cheat on my girlfriend. We all make mistakes, but I'm afraid we can't all be as perfect as you and I'm not going to beat myself up over something that happened a long time ago, and will never happen again.
