Are you calling me a liar?
He is honestly, when i say hes never boxed before that is true, although he did do kick boxing for a while before and up to joining the army, he has won 2 fights so far and got battered in his last one.
What im trying to say as in my last post it seems that if you show interest then to me it seems they will sort it out for you.
And he plays hockey for the army, they even said to him forget about your training (mechanic) for a while because we have some hockey games coming up !
It just seems like a bloody holiday camp! when he was doing his basic he showed an interest in the swimming they had to do, next thing he is excused from the normal training and given extra swimming training !!!
Its not how i imagine the army to be, he seems to tell them what he likes doing and they do whatever they can to help.
Hes based in Germany at the mo and has just come back from doing snowboarding etc !

Shaolin,
The job I did for the longest time was to help protect the Western world from total destruction. We all knew it was a one way trip if it ever happened but that is what I and my crew had contracted to do and we would not have hesitated.

Squad Shun!!
Don't forget we (HM Forces) are the scum of the earth until some f**king nutter as a go then we suddenly become hero's. The lack of moral fibre and "don't give a f**k attitude" leaves granny dying in the street, innocent people getting mugged and everyone turning away. Pride for my country I have in buckets, fear for my country and the way it's going I have in truck loads.
If half the UK population had as much pride as Service Personnel then this would be the best place in the world to live. As much as I dislike the Septics I think their attitude to their country is great.
Stand Easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'm on my 15th year in the Army and have to say that it is the best thing that I ever did. You will travel and experience things far more than you could expect in Civvy street. The absolutely crucial point is to select the right 'job' within the Army.
Prior to joining, I was a fully qualified carpenter and joiner, which was, as you can imagine, a pretty well paid job. I got tired of the mundane monotony of 1st fixes, 2nd fixes and thought it was time to jump ship. I took a big hit pay-wise but with promotion and time, it soon caught up and now is is pretty good.
I've lived / served / been to UK, Germany, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Norway, Cyprus, Turkey and in four weeks, am going to live in Canada for two years.
.....no regrets for me.
..oh, and choose a tech trade like Mitchy - quick promotion and good pay / bonuses / incentives.

Like i said, great life if your single IMO. I wouldnt change anything that i had done!
Im in an excellent position with my job experience, and have been offered more money for doing the same job on the same aircraft but in civvy street! £32k a year as a 23yr old sgt, get out and earn £40k in civvy street but without all the usual army bullsh*t.
I would have done 7yrs by the time im out and because of my circumstances its the best time for me to leave!
I have never been a 22 year man. I used the forces for a trade and thats it! Train me up, get some experience and bye bye!
The military has put me in a good position to walk into a £40K+ job so IMO i have done what i set out to do!

It has nothing to do with the labour government, no doubt you were not around when the tories were in power?
Shortly after the berlin wall came down HM forces had some very nice cutbacks, I was in the Signals, we lost 22 SigRegt and 4 ADSR (acutally the ENTIRE armoured division went), 3 div came back to the UK and that left 1 div in germany (28 sigregt became a troop, 21 sigs returned to the uk and that was just the signals, not saying what happened to the artillery but they got decimated

I served from 85-96, saw the world, had alot of fun, had crap pay (none tech job as they were pretty limited when i joined up) but the worst part was that they didnt really take care of you enough in some circumstances.
If you want to join up, go for a trade that counts, go for a Corps that gives you a trade rather than just a rifle so you have something to fall back on when you get out.

Like has been said go for a signals tech trade or aircraft/avionics/Pilot based trade.
Good money/good promotion and good prospects for when you leave!
Being in the technical side myself, you'll find the MAJORITY are only in the forces to use it as a stepping stone to get a trade/experience in order to step out into civvy street highly qualified! There are very few who are there to fight for queen and country! Thats infantry mentality not tech trade mentality! Use the system for your benefit! And why not?
Harsh, but thats the truth if im being honest!
Ive had a good 6 1/2 years so far, excellent in fact but im leaving at a good time now i think! Adventure training in Germany/Greece/Canada/Australia, all expenses paid. All the mates up and down the UK i have made, all the **** ups and all the laughs on the way! It has been good!

Mitchy, you say about moving about a lot, this is only the case of you are a support arms. I have served 12 years so far in the same station. I am a Tank commander by trade. OK so not a decent skill for civvie street I admit. However with 12 - 15 yrs service you can get a hell of a lot of resettlement payed for. ie get a trade. I'm married with no Kids, I'm not having any untill I'm settled in Canada which should be in the next couple of years.
This is down to me being away too much, not that we havent the time to have one but that I wouldnt be there for a child.
I don't want to miss that. Its defo a job for a singley, or one for a guy who has an awsome wife that will put up with all the **** that goes with the job.
I'm happy being out here but will be happier when I can start a family when I'm out and settled in Canada.

In my trade you get moved around every 3-4 years meaning a possibility of 7-8 different postings in 1 full 22yr army career! I think most people would agree this is unsettling for any other person non military involved. (Wives/kids)
Obviously thats not including time spent away on tours/ops/exercises/cadres/training and all the other joys of being in the military!
12-15yrs in the same place would solve a lot of retention issue problems if it was a frequent event throughout but sadly its not! We are expected to move every 3-4yrs!

Sounds like i have hit a nerve ending with you! Do you have kids and wife? More than likely divorced with a kid you dont see then??
My cousin works along side me, had a kid in september, missed its xmas, missed its 1st tooth, missed its 1st words and has now missed its 1st steps! In 9 months he has spent 6 weeks with his wife and child. His child does not recognise him when he goes home at the weekend! He cries when he picks him up! That was enough to get him to sign off and now my missus is expecting exactly the same for me!
How many forces personnell are divorced, quite a few i think you'll find! People get caught in the pension trap and stay in. No other insentive to stay in the forces 22years.
The fact my training for my trade cost in excess of £300,000 i think you'll find they are trying to keep hold of me! Im not cannon fodder infantry buddy! Sgt in 6 1/2 yrs aswell!
Yes plenty of other people do manage it, but how many of them have happy children and wives? Wives that dont go away ******** behind their back when your gone for 6 mths in afghanistan and children that grow up with a strange accent having grown up all over the UK.
''Hat'' military garbage that im fed up of! Mainly coming from the bufoons with the maroon berets! Your cannon fodder buddy.

I love the term HAT used by the Paras etc etc.
Quite ironic really, as it was my Regiment that introduced the Beret to the British Army. As wearing a cap in a tank with headsets was a bit of a no no.
They were presented to us by the French Alpina types. Actually worked with these guys in Bosnia. They have huge Berets, another throw back from history when they used them to keep their feet warm whilst sleeping in their boots up in the mountains.
Fear Naught.
