Opinions vary and each to their own, but the Classic is the original - it's lighter, faster and more discreet than the new age. Yes it's a bit noisy, basic and a crappy interior (When I bought mine new in 1999, I reckoned Subaru had got £20,000 out of me for the engine and handling and £495 for all the rest of the car!), but it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. How can the Classic ever look dated? It's the original and will always be the best! How many of you remember waiting 6-9 months (as I did) once you placed your order for the car to come from Japan? 2nd hand values were high, as was demand (due to import restrictions). It was a relatively rare sight on the roads, and few people (outside the farming community) knew their potential. Long live the Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most hot versions of cars have a bad miage hence sky high insurance premiums, vandalism, idiots (Im mean people) racing on the streets and all manor associated with hot models.
I prefer the classic just my preference and definitely not a choice made by how much I could afford either. Some people on here have kept their classics since they buoght them new and others inevitably will change as each model is released. In a world where cars are getting bigger and heavier because of safety standards the classic stands out as it has a raw edge.
I'd like to know which would be quickest around the top gear track:
New age STI v P1 v Type R v classic STI v WR1 v RA.
Has this been done?
All standard cars mind buts ultimately why most of us bought them in the first place.....Pedigree! I hope no one is going to argue that Subaru don't have that anymore. Last time I checked Subaru were still winning rallies.

There is no better looking Impreza than a 2 door late "classic" shape. (dunno where these 3 door Imprezas are )
Any typeR version 5/6, P1 or 22b does it for me, blue or yellow are the best colours. What spoils this look is non standard tat added to the car, not necessary IMHO. The 2 doors win hands down against any Impreza Subaru have made (and looking at the crap they've built for the past 5 years) and will make.

Classic by a mile, the best of the best has to be the Terzo, but then again I'm biased
The whole business about not being able to afford a bug eye/ blob eye thing is rubbish. I could have afforded to buy a much newer car, but I loved the look and colour of the Terzo

late classic, 98-00. Very purposeful look without shouting about it and light and responsive compared to newer cars. Now a days unless you go down the track day car route, most fast saloons, sports cars are laden with gadgets etc which make em heavy and yoou just end up losing the feel and handling you get with the classic. Just seems more rawer compared to the newer Imprezas.

classics all the way for me ,
i had 2 then got to the point were i wanted something different , looked at the shape of the new subarus and the frog eye , w t f , it doesnt even look performance , so i swapped to evo ,
now im goinback to scoob , 22b or type R ,
but on the other hand 2004 - 6 stis are growing on me , but not as much as A classic 22b does
and not bein able afford the new sti , , look at 2001 sti`s there less than most type R`s now version 4 and 5`s ,
that must be because everyone wants 1

If I went back to an Impreza I'd have to discount the 22b. It looks a nice enough car, but IMHO it's just a posey version of a typeR. They are very similar cars in terms of performance and gizmos, but very different in terms of price, around 10k?
When I had my 22b I didn't drive it anywhere as hard as my old typeR for fear of blowing the very expensive to replace engine or denting one of the very expensive and rare panels/bumpers.
The only major plus was looking at it, knowing it was one of only 10 cars or so (uk version) and being invited onto show stands. In fact I got to resenting the 22b in the end for the extra price it cost compared to a 'normal' typeR.
I'd much rather have a blue typeR, maybe a V ltd for that extra exclusivity than splash out on another 22b.

Well I like my blob eye more than the 'classic' style, didnt like the classic tbh, I must be the minority I guess but I just love the blob eye look front on, the classic just doesnt do it for me, but as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
And as for Evos they are all driven by bald men! maybe another 10yrs i can get an Evo

No, evo's are not driven by just bald men.
I was lucky enough to run both an Evo 5 and WRX a few years ago at 26.
In my mind the Evo was a much better car. I still want a Tommi Makinen Evo but remain happy with my Type R

Do you mean faster car? or all round better car though?
I was lucky enough to test drive the Tommy Evo6 a few years back, fantastic car performance wise, but could I live with it as my only car (which my scoob is) no not really.
If though you had it in the garage as your w/e special most certainly would love one. As I think has been said many a time, the Evo certainly shades on performance..just..but can you live with one day in day out? I certainly couldnt.

It would be an evening weekend car. I didn't like a few things with the one I almost bought last yeat. Tee black / red dial looks a wee bit cheep as the rest of the cabin is Black too. Ditto the seats too. These are not complaints as I still would have gone through with the sale. The Evo was far more comfy than my Pulsar but the Subary seems softer sprung.
The Evo is definitely a faster & better beast out of the box than the subaru.
