Vests are fine for fit looking young women to wear, as they tend to be more revelaing of pleasantly firm but slightly sweaty bits.

Personally I've always run on the basis of wearing proper sports socks rather than everyday socks for exercise - it happens most of my sports socks are white, but I don't conscientiously object to other colours. However, I would say black socks with shorts and white trainers do look a bit cack IMHO.

So, bearing in mind I'll be wearing a random T shirt, navy blue shorts (which are too long and make look....) with blue trainers, what colour socks should I wear?

just dont go to the gym.....it works for me

if you got time to worry about the colour of your socks you are really not working hard enough.

White socks

dark trainers, dark socks, Jogging bottoms and a baggy T shirt..

None of this white poofty malarky and nothing skin tight..

Leave that to the women.

Does it matter, I go to the gym to get fit, not to be a fashion statement!

Either that or you are actually training properly for fat burning or aerobic capacity, rather than blindly following the "no pain no gain" rubbish that gives much reduced benefits.

Quite honestly-is it really that important? You don't need to be a "dedicated follower of fashion", do your own thing for once!

i do agree with you that working to 60%-70% of heart rate is better than no pain no gain but you should be thinking about your training and not colour of your socks.

Urban myth invented by the gym industry following the Jane Fonda videos of the 80's that put people off due to the idea gyms were hard work.

i did get good results using the 60%-70% heart rate training but i also mixed it up a little with no pain no gain training

Is this the same urban myth that's been spread by large numbers of professinal running coaches, based on work released by Arthur Lydiard in the 1950s, the same guy who has since trained multiple medal winners and world record holders? If you have no idea what you'r talking about, don't be so quick to put others down as you look stupid.

Richie - agreed, mixing in some higher work rate is necessary for strength / speed, anaerobic thresholds and all that, 70-80% is good for cardio/respiratory stuff too, and anyway different training suits different goals anyway, Definitely agree that either way the colour of your socks has no effect whatsoever on how effective your training is!
