7300 jobs lost in the last 24hours...

The company I work for (very big international blue chip) has announced another round of UK redundancies in the last couple of weeks, hasn't seemed to have hit the headlines though.
We had 3000+ UK employees 3 years ago, now we have less than 800 and about another 100 will be going over the next few months.
All jobs gone to China btw.

this thread just triggered a memory of 'Euroenglish' doing the rounds on emails a few years ago...
Subject: EuroEnglish
The European Union commissioners have announced that an agreement as been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather than German, which was the other possibilty.
As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as EuroEnglish (Euro for short). In the first year, "s' will be used instead of the soft "c". Sertainly sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard "c" will be replaced with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters -kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced by "f". This will make words like "fotograf' 20 per sent shorter. In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent "e"s in the languag is disgrasful, and they would go. By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" by z" and "w" by v. During ze fifz year ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou', and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl.
Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer. Ze drem vil finali kum tru.

Tis a sorry state of affairs at the moment with redundancies.
Thankfully, I'm quite secure in my job.

And the increase in civil servants.
Financial mismanagement on a grand scale.

Sorry (i know I'm new and should stay quiet for at least a while )
I think the NTL job cuts are to do with Xansa (basically its a company that takes the jobs from this country and gets them done in INdia)
Xansa are doing very well at getting accountancy contracts and shipping the work abroad they already have BT but most importantly they are getting the NHS contracts
When Xansa took the contracts their main pitch was that they would supply the new accounting and reporting software for the NHS trusts plus they would be able to process the miriad of invoices cheaper than as if it was done by a load of civil servants and finally although they have accounting "factories" in India they would not do the NHS invoices outside the UK
Well as any Ward nurse will tell you the new software is awful ...it actually costs more now to run the financial side of the nhs than it did when it was done inhouse and finally if you work in Bradford for Xansa ...it might be a good idea to start looking for another job!
To be fair Xansa is aggressively targeting all NHS trusts but some are resisting and I hope they succeed but why should it concern you ...well its your Taxes that are going to INDIA!

Whichever way you cut it or argue the toss, our country is on the verge of being royally fxxked. Only the extremely optomistic can think that the current economy is sustainable and is going to last.
Yes, a lot of it is down to peoples personal greed over the last few years, and the banks, credit card companies and mortgage lenders being far too eager to lend money to people who cant afford it, but there are plenty of people who are being shafted by redundancies through no fault of their own.
[switch to arrogant tosser scoobynet mode] Of course it doesnt bother me, I've got plenty of money and no debts, so I'll be lighting my **** with fivers while the peasants are crying outside the job centre [off]

What information do you have that the 'extremely optimistic' learned economists have missed? I suggest you write to them and tell them that the sky is falling. I'm sure they can learn from you.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Honda in Swindon and Toyota up North be next in line for big lay-offs. Seems its just too expensive to manufactuer in this country with so much red tape, taxes on employers and fairly high salary demands from employees.
No surprise to see unemployment up YET AGAIN this month

Yet another NL type post from PSL telling us the opposite of what is really happening. Do you write the scripts for No 10 PSL?
The real loser on this forum is you PSL, now that your hero and his bunch of rather queer cronies have been well and truly sussed out.
You have not said very much since the knee jerk re-shuffle and the "outing" of the incompetents at the start of it all. No good you thinking it has all passed by, we certainly have not forgotten.
I wonder how you will feel about Flash taking over from your seriously discredited hero. Somehow it might almost be better for your ineffectual leader to continue since he can't do much any more rather then letting that
useless prat have control.
As for Shaggy Two Fats, even his own party is laughing their socks off at him!
