Its highly unlikely that the car is a 'ringer'..... Both the insurance company and the attending Police officers (probably) will have submitted a V23 condition marker to the DVLA; this will be flagged on any activity (applying for the V5 or taxing usung a V63) and the car will be inspected by the local Police force's stolen vehicle squad. Whilst its quite possible to carry this off its highly unlikely. Youd be amazed what can be done on a jig with a few sections; I dont think Id want to own the car afterwards though.

As an aside; it is quite legal to repair and use a car that was sold (by the money grabbing parasitic insurance company) under a destruction order. Whether the car is fit and safe is another matter of course.

Had the engineer who carried out the inspection of the car decided to repair rather than pay your son out (probably cos these cars retain a high value as damaged and therefore the most cost effective route to take for him) then your son would be happily driving it and people wouldn't be saying "It's a Ringer!!!"

There is nothing wrong with a well repaired car.
people should not automatically assume that if a car has been damaged that "Phil and Grant" have "Ringed it".
bent chassis...no spare available..hence RINGER

Whilst that is true enough, It would take some trick equipment to correct the twist in the shell. As well as the tell-tale kinks in the roof, you could actually see the twist from the font of the car. The drivers footwell was pushed right back and the floor ripped open to the road. Some serious welding and gap filling required!

PS Anyone who knows Chris would realise that he would have refused to accept the car as repaired! Even the (very helpful!) copper who delt with the case advised him not to accept a repair!

All I was saying (and I think GC8 agreed) is that not all cars that arae repaired from being written off arae "Ringed". There are lots of good repairers out there doing very high quality work.
and i'll shut up now cos this lot never listen to the people in the know, Just ***** like Pete Lewis and the like.

I agree with PALATINE. There are alot of damage repaired vehicles around. The fact the driver doesn't know is partly down to them for not checking.
My recently purchased scoob was a write off (see pic).

As you can see, there have been worst accidents.
The only difference between me and most of the other drivers in damge repaired cars, is that I bought it like this.

Who's to say the car was not reshelled or jigged with new panels. Who buys a car like that anyway without first getting an HPI check done. Somone will have bought it and either jigged or reshelled it, does not shout out ringer to me. Take a look in the back of the trader to see what kind of damaged cars are being repaired you will be supprised.

You can buy a complete bodyshell off a manufacturer/specialist, in the past i have bought into an accident repair centre mercedes shells and various Ford ones.

Yes the original documentation will show up as having some sort of code against it at the DVLA but the car isnt a ringer.

As long as the job is done correctly there should never be a problem in doing a re-shell. Also repairing a twisted chassis isnt out of the question either, i have done it to some seriously damaged cars and they have all left the bodyshop perfect.

I can fully accept that it's not a ringer and with the right alignment jigs and skilled repair work, it could have been repaired. I have great respect for you guys with the skills to rebuild such cars to a standard of integrity essential for this class of vehicle. The whole of the nearside and the rear were perfect and as it only had 3600miles on it, I can see the financial logic of glueing it back together again!
As I said in my original explanation, I hope the present owner is aware and accepts its history.
