Great news Bex

btw, worth checking HOW they towed your car, ie did they just lift front wheels?? If so they could have damaged your centre diff.

Sue the b@stards then

There are two firms involved ... the security firm responsible for the clamping ... Ace Security ... and watch out Londoners ... because from the map on the wall ... they cover a huge amount of both south and north London.

Then there was the firm that actually "stored" my car. The storage firm assured me that it had been lifted because it was 4WD they wouldn't have towed it.

Oddly enough it was impossible to check where the car had been kept to see whether there was any damage as it was in some under railway arches area which was very dark. In daylight it seemed to be OK. However, they did say it had been pushed to where it was finally parked (with steering wheel lock on it which had been moved obviously because the wheels had been turned and in gear) ... what do you think????? damage possibilities????

There was no evidence of any sticker on the car to say it had been clamped (no marks on either windscreen or drivers window) and I forgot to ask which wheel had been supposedly clamped, but no evidence of clamping taking place.

In one way I'm just relieved to get my car back ... but I'm still mad about the whole situation and the security company involved as I don't believe proper procedures have been followed. However, the AA didn't seem to think there were procedures that they have to follow re: stickers etc on car to warn you of clamp.

Police also said when I spoke to them that until legislation is brought me it's basically legal robbery

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions. I don't think I shall be letting the matter rest, so will let you know what happens.

Very pleased for you. i saw the original pics and its a beaut!

We don't have any clamping firms in Jersey anymore as people took a stand against them. One women went to court refusing to pay and the sensible magistrate decided that the clamping firm were effectively demanding money with menaces and threw the case out and awarded costs against them. They are the scum of the earth.

If enough people fight bad (throughthe correct legal process) it would stop these cowboys. It needs EVERYONE whose been victim of an unjust clamping/removal to take action. Unfortunately too many people are prepared to pay up as they lead busy lives and its easier.

ACE ....... Very well known ,Muppet org. As mentioned your car had no stickers on it nor was it clamped. Based on that you could go to the S.C.Court for obtaining money (Clamp fee) by deception.

I look good in court !!!. I would write to the Director/s of ACE an dinform them of 2. witnesses.Who will confirm that the car had not been clamped.

Also Local tax Office. What type of receipt was given???
Chances are they are not diclaring all takings

i think the reason why your car was taken away was because the clamper will get more money. if they just clamp it, you only pay for clamping charges, but if they tow it away, you pay towing AND storage charges.

you got a good case to get your money back. check with your local trading standard if the company has any bad records or been receiving lots of complaints, etc.

...just wondered about towing 4-wheel drive cars ?. Can they do this without causing damage to the transmission..remember seeing some tv prog in the US and they have to make sure all 4 wheels are off the ground with AWD cars ?...wonder do they bother to check over here ???

I have no intention of giving up on this one ....

interestingly ... and not surprisingly ... the receipt only shows the address of the storage firm in south London ... Ace security is just a PO box number and the amounts don't add up because supposedly some money went to Ace and some of it to the storage firm ... yet the whole amount had to be paid to the storage firm ...... confused? you soon will be

Time to call on the local trading standards mob I think.
