You can buy a new one for £21k with a 2.5 engine and facelift. £17k for a year old one is then only sensible. Look on Motorpoint. http://www.motorpoint.co.uk/vehicle_...&vehicle=97803
The last four cars I sold on bulletin boards, 2 sold in a few days, one in a week or two, one took a month, but by hanging on I got £3k extra for it than the first offer. Price it right and it will shift no problems. Price it stupidly and you'll be stuck with it.

I priced my slap bang in the middle of other cars of a similar age/mileage on Autotrader, and mine has £2-3k of sensible mods (suspension, brakes, desirable body bits (STi wing)) and it didn't sell
Prices have dropped again since with 03 STi's at around £13k where they were fetching £15-16k just 4-6 months ago, so I will keep mine and enjoy it for now.

the going price for an average non ppp sti is around 14k and there are only 5 ppp examples on autotrader, and they average at over 15k...

Where exactly is that for sale - and did anyone actually see the car?

That's given me something to think about. Car hasn't actually been in Autotrader yet, because I'm a lazy seller. Think i'll have to put it in this week. Btw, paid £17k for mine in April last year, and 13K fro this kind of car is way too cheap.
So motorpoint only do EU imports, eh? I've nothing against them, except, as proven in this case, their resale value is lower. You can't compare an EU import with a UK supplied car when it comes to selling on again

Buyers will compare your expensive UK used cars against newer Euro imports. The prices advertised are not sale prices. Too many with their head in the clouds. Cars are depreciators not investments. Get over it.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type UK
2.0 Petrol 4-door Saloon
6 Speed Manual Four Wheel Drive
Year: 2003 03
Mileage: 33,000
Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition:
£12450
Average condition:
£11200
Below average condition:
£10050
Add a few hundred for the PPP, wheels, and a bit more for a private sale, then £12k would be reasonable.
Put a few more miles on it:
Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type UK
2.0 Petrol 4-door Saloon
6 Speed Manual Four Wheel Drive
Year: 2003 03
Mileage: 50,000
Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition:
£11600
Average condition:
£10450
Below average condition:
£9350
As I said, Glass prices can also be quite high - you can sometimes buy cars from dealers for the excellent "trade in" price.
Really it is what someone will pay not what you would like them to pay.

Don't be silly you silly silly boy.
No one uses glasses or parkers except when it suits them ie you're buying a car and you want to try and knock the price down or your selling to a dealer and you want to get the price up.
These 'guides' are only an indication and bear no relevance to specialist car markets. I have had cosworths and subarus over the years, and for a brief time owned a Rolls Royce (well my Dad did, but I helped him choose it). Where do people think these prices come from in the books - they don't trawl national adverts and gather what is going on in the market, they use statsitical formula based on servicing and parts costs and couple that with used car segment data. They do it very well for general car ranges and models, but not for Subarus ( and no I don't think subarus are diamond covered cars with chocolate engines).
Get real! Who has seen any cars at these prices! End rant, sit down, breath.... Breath I said........That's better,
Jerry

I'm not the silly one that is paying over the odds. The last two used cars I bought were for less than Glass prices
One from a franchised dealer, and one a private sale.
If a private seller is asking too much they don't sell except to a mug, and someone like me goes to find a car that is better priced.
You're the silly boy that has the notion that your car has only lost £2k in the last year between the age of 2 and 3 years old PMSL. You're the one with the car for sale for over FOUR months. Even lazy advertising on a BBS shouldn't take that long unless it is overpriced. You should've bitten the hand off of the bloke that offered you 12500 recently.

Seriously though you're missing the point. Used cars sell to the market at the time, and the market varies throughout the country. It doesn't work for people to say 'my mate bought one for 12k' - yes he probably did, and maybe in another part of the country.
When I bought my MY95 WRX in 1998, cars in London and home counties were 14-15k. I went to Northern Ireland and bought one fresh of the boat for 12,300, and had a holiday at the same time.
The point is, now hijacking this thread completely, that cars will sell and buyers will buy. They will pay more for a car - above book price - if they just like the car. Plain and simple. I wonder, John, have you not ever bought a car for more than glasses or parker's price?

I'm not missing any point, I told you what it was worth to me. Used cars don't sell if they are priced unrealistically unless you get a mug buying them. Yours doesn't appear to be selling until you've made the price more realistic.
No I don't recall paying more than book, especially not more than Parkers that would be a joke with the present market. The last two used cars I bought I travelled 250-300 miles for. The last car I sold the buyer travelled 400 miles for.
Sellers justify to themselves that there is no market for their cars at present - complete rubbish unless it is something very niche. I passed by these sellers when looking for an Evo and they are still trying to sell them or have sold them on since at more realistic prices.
You can't buy a run of the mill car like an STI for £17k one year and expect £15K back the next with a load more miles on it. You own selling price proves that.

Agree with others - Glass's guide can say what they like. The point is that there aren't any Type UK STI's for sale for that kind of money on autotrader or pistonheads, never mind the dealers themselves, so the prices they give are meaningless.
A dealer near me has a 53 reg STI for sale for £17.5k, which is what I paid for mine a year ago. Admittedly, they'll probably sell it for less than that, but somehow I can't seem them letting it go for all that much less.
£12k for a car like this is ridiculous IMO, and it's getting so that the difference between an early bugeye and a late STI8 is only a couple of grand.

John mate lots to say but not good at listening. As i said, with regard to my car I've been a lazy seller shall I shalln't i and all that. Four months isn't how long it's taken to sell the car, as you'll see from READING the thread

Hi again,
I know I posted this thread back in May 2006 but I've taken the plunge after nearly a year of "dithering". Pick up a 55 plate 2.5 WRX on Saturday 24Feb2007.

Hi there,
I'm in the fortunate position to have a nice little budget for a new car (circa £15k). I've been looking at various Impreza's and don't have a clue about the all models out there. I've seen old shape P1's and new shape STI's for about the same money. So a few quick questions:
1. Which is the best model for this money (£15k)?
2. My friend has an EVO9 and it has really short service intervals are Impreza's service intervals similar?
3. Is it frowned upon to modify editions like the P1 should they be kept standard or doesn't it matter if you modify them?
Thanks

Just wtach out for over-inflated values of older models. Some of the prices peeps are charging for a common garden classic that's tired and thrashed is getting far too silly now.
For that reason alone, I'd be tempted for a new Euro Import WRX or STI, although the 3yr warrantee will **** up any hope of mods for the first few years
Old classic shapes are all tired, worn out, overpriced, lemore basic inside than a micra, and the engine/gearbox will blow up. Bug eyes are cheap, but slow and ugly. So that leave the later blobeye and onwards.
