Ask them if there's a racing page in the magazine they offer you.

I'm not sure what being smart or polite has to do with it. They have a "church" where I can go if I want to find out more about them, I certainly don't want them on my doorstep uninvited.

I remember once when I was watching a stunning framew of snooker with Jimmy White and someone else and then the door dell rang. I ignored at as I wanted to see the end of the frame. They kept on ringing as they could obviously hear the TV on. Eventually, I gave in and answered the door to find JWs. Thold them no thanks and went back to TV and had missed the deciding black ball shot. Somehow that memory always comes back whenever anyone mentions JWs.

Another time when I was a student in Brighton, I had 2 JWs call. An old man and a young chap about my age. Eventually, I managed to get them arguing amongst each other with the old chap being a die hard fundamentalist and th eyoung chap was still prepared to question some of their policies.

Around hear in Devon, the JWs that have called have been polite and not pushy at all. I have no problem with being polite to them and respect their dedication in doing what they obviously believe in. Can't understand why anyone is rude to them unless they become a nuisance and won't go away.

So it's your moral duty to keep them talking on your doorstep for as long as you can possibly do so to minimise the chance of them subverting someone less fortunate down the road. Maybe
I wonder if you can justify, or even explain your unnecessarily rude remark about the brain power of those with religious beliefs?

I knew a girl who was a JW for years. Their beliefs are pretty much common sense and real-world I have to admit. She wasn't keen on the pressure to get married as soon as possible, but bowed to it, and it ended up in inevitable divorce. After 13 years she left JWs, and is now one of the horniest, filthiest women I have ever known. Simply unbelievable. And she repressed it all that time.

I dont think going door to door trying to preach your Religion to others is polite. I think they are weird to be honest, and whilst some of their beliefs work well as with how to treat others etc... but dont they have to give a certain amount of their wages to the church? (someones blatently raking it in) and some of them are just plain stupid, ie blood tranfusions etc...

If one of my kids was dying there wouldnt be anything i wouldnt try.

Honestly, wierd.

It comes down to belief and faith though doesnt it ? if you have faith that what you are doing and the way you are living is right, then it wouldnt seem weird to you - just the same as these muslim extremists think blowing themselves up to get into heaven quicker is perfectly normal behaviour, whereas the rest of us would think 'hang on a minute'

Personally I have no problem with people who are religious, as long as they respect my right not to be, and dont try and force it down my throat if I make it obvious I'm not interested.

Saying that, I dont think JW's are alone in wanting to spread the ( in their opinion ) good news - I've had missionaries over from Africa calling at the door, and most religious people I know see it as part of their faith to try and tell other people what they are missing.

Just the same as us on here really, if one of us found an amazing new car mod that would change the way our cars performed, we'd want to share it with everyone else so they can benefit ( well, most if us would ! ).

Plus, as others have pointed out, most christians I know are some of the nicest, politest and genuine people you could meet - I'd much rather spend time with people like that than some of the snidey people around.

Not saying that having decent moral standards is exclusive to christians, but they do seem to have a head start on a lot of modern society - I think a lot of people could learn a thing or two about how to treat others from them.

( But I'm still not going to be happy if any call round when the footie is on )

But would you go around randomly knocking on doors in the hope that you meet another modification enthusiast, or would you go to a place where such people may hang out? If you want to talk cars, go to car fair, if you want to talk god, go to a church.

Knowing my luck I'd end up with a "Rottweiler" of a JW. I'm not about to get into a theological debate with someone who's "job" is to know all the answers.

They don't always have the 'answers'. I had to correct them on the main causes of war in the 20th century being 'oil' and not religion

She limped off in her raised left shoe, dragging her brown 70's parka'd son down my driveway. She was sweating like a black man at a white womans funeral at not knowing what to say next.

Whilst watching a film with friends in my house once they knocked on my door. When I opened it I was greeted with "We've come to bring you Jesus"
My reply, "I'm a bit busy right now, but if you leave him in the garage I tend to him later", then I swiftly closed the door.

I had a pleasant 45 minute discussion with a pair that came round to me. I would normally say "no thanks" and shut the door, but I was in a receptive mood and we both went away respecting each others beliefs. They were pleasant respectful folk and in many ways far better than some of the ******* that live on this planet.

I don't hold any particular religious beliefs myself, my missus would say she was pagan, but not an actively practicing one, but I can respect other people for having their own beliefs as long as, like many have said before, it's not rammed down my throat telling me that it's the only way.

Yep as above Ive never encountered anyone rude or pushy, Im never rude to people on my doorstep because I dont want them walking off and scratching my car or something! I do find it odd that people of religion have to 'sell' their beliefs, are they on a commission or something?

Whilst most **** a snook at the JW's one has to admire their tenacity and belief in pursuing an often waning cause. They may have an uncanny knack of knocking at the most inopportune of moments but they are giving up their time for something they believe in. For this they deserve a modicum of respect at least. Given the treatment some of them have had meted to them by some of our ardent posters it's a wonder as to why they persevere. Okay granted no-one should be forced on their own doorstep, I think we should cut them a little slack. Before anyone asks, no I am not a Jehovah's Witness!

My next door neighbours are JW and they are among the nicest people I have ever met. My wife has known them all of her life. The two sons are are very polite and respectful. The oldest lad is my window cleaner and gutter cleaner outerer.
They have book studies every tuesday night in the house with car loads turning up. In the seven years I have lived here I have not had any preachy approaches. Even when the mother pops round to see how we are, nothing religious is ever mentioned.

I'd have a great deal more respect if they pursued their beliefs in private. I don't find the need to go knocking on the people's door's extolling the virtues of a good **** on Sunday morning, so why do they need to tell me what they get up to on a Sunday?

Maybe in their own misguided way they are trying to make the world a better place. Perhaps you should go around extolling the virtues of a good ****, judging by the look on some people's faces they could do with one!
