i was looking after a mates house once while he was on holiday and "they" knocked on the door, knowing my mate was due back in a few days, i told them i was very intrested, i admired them etc etc, but i was short of time and could they call back in a few days.
they asked for my name and i gave my mates![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)
apparently when my mate got back from his holiday, they arrived in force, loads of them, ready to convert him or something![Lol](images/smilies/lol.gif)
he tried telling them he was not intrested, but they didn't believe him as
"we have your name on our list"

Used to get them all the bloody time until a mate lent me a book.
The next time they called I showed them the book as my preferred reading material and for some reason they havent been back since.
The book was the first of the Satanic bible - The Book of Satan!

Certainly an interest inducing thread! There must be lots of you that get called on by Witnesses!
(They can be 'Witnesses' but never 'Jehovahs', unless you often name people after God!)
I do know a they won't go to war, knick your car, break into your house, throw bricks through your windows or bash the doors of your beloved Impreza, and that makes the world a better place IMO.
I know 2 Witnesses that own Imprezas, 1 classic one new age, and another that has a rather lovely R33 GTR! Got no problem with them!

I've got a 'kin huge Labrador, with a bark that makes my b0ll0cks shrink, let alone visitors!!
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
However, he barks to let me know people are outside (a good thing) - but all visitors are greeted with the softest, stupidest dog out!!
(If thay've got the b@lls to come down the drive
)
Most JW haven't
PLus if they do brave it to the door, they are faced with my wife - a nurse who DOES believe vehemently in blood transfusion
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Shame really - I rarely get to express my views![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

certainly not brainwashed mate, but whatever religion someone chooses its comments like some posted on here, that are totally incorrect, that give people the wrong view of religions and their members. if people are going to make statements at least get the facts right first
it gets done all the time whether it be a JW, muslim, catholic etc etc

Worked with some JW's and it's part of their belief that they have to go out and spread they beliefs.
One of the JW'S I worked with was a passenger in a car that was tailgated and did not hesitate in sueing for whiplash and taking her JW sister on a holiday to the States for a New York spending spree.
I hate people trying to push religon on to others and hate religion generally. An age old method of controlling the masses GRRRRRRR fu**Ing grow up we all know right from wrong and don't need the s**t about God, Heavan, Hell or Jehova.......

not trying to bother anyone mate, just correcting some wrongly mentioned points. i got alot of family who are jw's and they certainly are nothing like the way that some people try to portray them as. granted you do get those who are "odd" but then you will find them in all religions........hey you even get weird/odd scooby owners, does that make all scooby owners weird

without being flippant les i'll have a go.
change "i believe in God, i pray to God and i seek guidance in my life from God" to "i believe in Fairies, i pray to Fairies and i seek guidance in my life from Fairies".
both are supernatural entities of questionable existence requiring faith rather than proof for belief. yet believers in the former would think believers in the latter to be, at best, complete nutbars. why is that?
dawkins calls it wrong-thinking. the question is, what is it in the make-up of clearly intelligent believers that enables them to engage happily in such double-think? is it nature? nurture? or a genetic error in the circuitry of consciousness? a bit of all three perhaps?
look at the increasing rifts within western christian doctrine. it's caused by believers struggling to rationalise the old school interpretation of their faith with the world as we collectively understand it today. who knows, perhaps a little bit of right-thinking is beginning to creep in.

While JW's may be nice people - I cannot abide their beliefs regarding transfusions, transplants and the like; however nice they appear, I have to question how nice they are when they would allow a child to die rather than have it given a simple blood transfusion.
Mormons are a nice polite bunch as well. Always get young american lads over here as "missionaries" all suited up walking around town - nice lads just talk crap

What did humanity do before the Jovies started up in the early 20th century? Since only 144,000 people (the anointed remnant depending on what chapter of JW you hang with) are going to heaven proper, what about the rest of us? Heaven on earth I hear you say! Hmm, wait a minute, what about the billions that have already died?
With strategic quoting from the Bible, you can say that God wants/supports pretty much anything. The jovies are always polite as people have said here, but they are deluded In my opinion.
I welcome further discussion from any Jovies here, flame suits at the ready!

We get a couple of women every few months, an old 1 and a pretty young un.
They came a couple of weeks ago and were very polite, asked me what i'd do if Jesus came back - didn't know what to say as i wasn't sure if he'd definately call to visit me![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
They said i looked busy (washing car) so left me some leaflets and went away (probably knew i was ogling the young one - mid 20s)

Threads like this are a graet laugh to read ......... a load of judgemental uninformed fools talking about a religion they know few actual facts about
I have a couple of really good friends whom Iv'e known for 20+ years who are JW's. I know a fair amount of FACT about their beliefs and it isn't for me .......my friends do not try and convert me and they are actually quite normal.
JW's do have transplants. JW's choose more expensive blood substitutes that carry less risk than blood based products BUT the majority of uninformed people know nothing about the non blood volume expanders as the NHS tend to keep quiet about them due to the high costs. In countries like America where private health care exists and the costs are covered by insurance the non blood products are more widely used in opeartions due their more beneficial characteristics and reduced complications. Surgeons that do not have the fall back of pumping pints of tranfused blood through a patient tend to be a lot more careful over the cuts and general proceedure and recovering times are recorded as being faster. If anyone was actually interested in the truth about the issue there is loads of information on the net available and it makes for fascinating reading.
By the way ........ my father-in-law (NOT a JW) was the deputy director of Peterborugh District hospital and is now on the board of directors, managed the Intensive care unit in another hospital in Bristol and managed the A&E deprtament at another.......... quite refreshing to talk to people about issues who know what they are talking about.
Mind you saying that JW's let their kids die through not having blood transfusions sounds far more juicy and emotionally charged and gives the small minded ones something to have a good rant about ............... hilarious!!!

Your comparative argument is flawed anyway HG because as far as a superior being is concerned, it is a natural thing to look at the world, space, and the miracle of life etc. and to wonder if some being somewhere might just be responsible for it all. You can talk about big bangs, organic matter, lightning flashes etc all you like, but it does not explain how it all started in the first place. Where did it all come from? Tribes in the jungle who have had no contact with the modern world still think the same way and will have a God of some sort or other in mind. I believe that shows that it it is not abnormal to think that way.
That is why I objected to the unecessarily unpleasant and insulting remark made by Chelspeed about those who choose to accept that there may well be a superior being in some form or other which we can neither prove nor disprove. I note also that he was not prepared to defend what he said.
If you don't wish to believe that, I personally don't give a stuff about it, but I will respect your right to do so and I would also not feel inclined to call you names or try to make you look stupid either.
As I have said before, the "fundamental" Atheists seem to feel that they have to knock religious thinkers at all costs and the only reason I can think of is that they feel uneasy about their own beliefs and are trying to justify them maybe even to themselves!
I wonder how many here would call on God to save them when they see their nemesis approaching regardless of their stated beliefs!

Funnily enough we had a couple knock at the door this morning.
A suited young lad and a rather gorgous blonde in her mid-thirties.
Told them it wasn't my thing and politely that the F1 qualifying was about to start (helped I had an old Mclaren tshirt on) and they wished me all the best and left.

I usually just ask them...
You're that lot that don't agree with blood transfusions aren't you?
When they say yes... I just reply that if it wasn't for blood transfusions I'd be dead now, so they wouldn't be able to preach to me.. so you're not going to preach to me now! They usually do a quick about face!

I used to work with a Jo-ho and he was a nice guy. I asked him if his son was dying and needed blood what would he do, he said he hopes he would let him die as is the religion... but he said he loves his son more than his God so... who knows...
He did go door to door too
