i agree bros, they believe whit they r doing is good and trynna dae better for the world and they dont get paid for it and dae it oot of their own will, i respect that myself aboot them, unlike others sitting on their asses and not making an effort in life, at least their trynna help folks even if we dont believe in their stuff

i personally luv jw coming tae my door, they stopped coming though lol

i teach them their own bible. see alot of them r students of their bible and dont have a clue and i teach them the truth aboot jesus peace be upon him haha, i luv it and then the best one is when u ask them why they call God jehovah they r on aboot that gramattan thing

then i says tae them so how come in yer own new world translation when jesus supposed tae be on the cross

why does he say eli eli lama sabachtani and not yahweh yahweh lama sabachtani haha

not a bit of it. i don't agree that the analogy is flawed. look at it logically: both God and Fairies are unproven supernatural beings that rely on faith alone for their alleged existence. that's just a statement of fact, as is that one has developed as an acceptable belief system and the other is broadly regarded as crackers. but there's no essential difference between the two: it's double-think to say otherwise in my opinion.

sure it's natural to look at the world and the universe in awe, but not necessarily to do so and think "divine architect". millions of atheists don't and are happy not to.

here's a thought: until the christian bible went into print in the 13th century, it spent 1,200 years as an oral history. and any sociologist, anthropologist and even zoologist will tell you how human behaviour and oral communication over time adds to the original facts - gilding the lilly essentially. just think of chinese whispers and the apocryphal example - "send reinforcements we're going to advance" becoming "send three and fourpence we're going to a dance".

so common sense and experience would say take The Word with a big pinch of salt rather than literally. but many religions take the bible - or their version of it - as the gospel truth (no pun intended). paradoxical. apply that within societies that lack western intellectual freedoms and our level of (scientific) education and you have an explosive recipe for fundamentalism and militant absolutism. just look at what's happening with the pakistani female madrassa in islamabad at the moment. if such 1984-style talibanisation wasn't so tragic - and potentially dangerous - it'd be funny.

sure people call out God, Christ or Allah in moments of high stress, but how much of that is purely knee-jerk social and religious conditioning - like the inevitable instant and instinctive curse when you bark your shin or tread in a dog turd?

ultimately no-one knows and no-one can know: which is why we have circular debates such as this one. ultimately, people draw their own lines in the sand and then stand on them. i find all religious belief odd but people are entitled to have it without unfair criticism as long as they don't use it as an excuse for censorship, bigotry, abuse, mutilation and murder. sadly, that's plainly as rare as **** on a bull and always has been.

lewis hamilton. awesome don't you think?

Very well then Gene baby!

You have to remember that I am in no way trying to convert you or anyone else HG. I am not prepared to enter the argument whether there is or is not a superior being known as God, or even fairies. As you have said, and as I did too, no one can prove or disprove it so there is little point in getting wound up about it. I largely agree with your last paragraph anyway. I am not into trying to make people believe in my thoughts on the matter. I hold that I am entitled to my personal beliefs whether based on biblical teachings or on a basis of probabilities.

The real point of my posts was that it is not necessary to castigete those who admit to being religious or even just that there may be a superior being. Those who are so nasty in what they say about that must be suffering from a loss of self belief if they have to call others names or attempt to insult them for their beliefs just because they are different to their own. That is what I said in my first post on this thread and I of course stand by that. I doubt that you would blame me for that either. I am sure that you would also be honest enough to tell us about it should you ever meet any fairies! We always leave some chocolate on a clapper bridge on the East Dart for the pixies so that we may catch some fish.

But then you are taking away the theory that a God would want to preserve His word and has the power to do so.
If the bible is the word of God written by man, it's acuracy has to have been preserved by God otherwise it would degenerate into the thoughts of man.

I work from home so get a lot of these at the door (along with pikeys, double-glassing & driveway salesmen etc).

They are pleasent and friendly and not pushy, so we basically had a chat and they left a leaflet with a prayer on it for me to read. It was about christmas time so I was in a "good will to all men" type mood.

What a mistake. From then on, every week we have had them around trying to see if I was interested further. Luckly I was out on each occaison, but they kept coming back.

Finally they turned up last week - specifically drove to my house rather than just passing - and this time wanted to come in. I had to be a bit firmer with them this time, but I suspect they will be back in time.

They are locals so we have a conversation about things in the town, put the world to rights for a bit, and they usually show us a short passage in the bible which is apposite to what is happening in the modern world. That can take as much as two minutes!

We don't find them objectionable in any way and although we are not party to their faith we don't mind having a chat with them.

So it's your moral duty to keep them talking on your doorstep for as long as you can possibly do so to minimise the chance of them subverting someone less fortunate down the road. Maybe

sorry not with you. do you mean a celestial "auto save" function by proxy? if so, isn't that a rather convenient catch-all for the church?

I can understand you finding that an irritation when you don't really want them turning up regularly. They should respect your wishes from that point of view. We are just lucky I suppose that the ones who pitch up here are very easy to talk to about anything you like to mention and they don't push the religious bit at all. It is mentioned very briefly just before they leave and is not in the least bit annoying. I can stand that easily enough. Full marks to you for being polite.

Right. i know your all going to slat me now.

I'm a Jehovah's Wittness.

I drive a wrx classic. Just read what i have to say and it might help you understand why we call at your homes.
We call around on your doors because its a command from the Bible to do so from Jesus in the book of Mathew, but we don't call to try and force what we belive on you in anyway. some ppl listen and others don't.
If you really don't want us to call on you then all you need to do is ask to be put down as a not to call.. your house number or name is then put on the teritory map so the next time we come around you wont be called on. You will then only get called on again maybe once a year to check that you still wish for us not too call or to see if there are new home owners. Its up to you.
We meet many many ppl when we go around and many are not interested and many are. If your not then you just need to kindly say and we leave. We don't take it bad cuz we understand that everyone has there own views and we are not trying to force what we belive on anyone unless they show an interest then we ask if its ok to call again to continue the dicusion. We are just normal ppl just like anyone eles. We are just doing as the Bible sayswe should and try live our lives the best we can to what the bible says. Maybe next time we call, hear us out and ask questions and see what its really all about instead of just shutting the door and never knowing. up too you. The Bible offers many many helpful things for our lives today when its understood properly.

hope this clears up what you might think of us.

So then my god bothering friend....

The 'bible' tells you to do it so off you trot round the houses... and you EXPECT US to have to tell you to 'not to call' so you can mark this on a map!

Even then YOU STILL call once a year to see if we still DONT WANT YOU CALLING or more likely that some NEW gullable idiot has move in......

Thanks for taking the trouble to explain your thinking about it all.

I believe that you are entitled to your beliefs even though I am not a Witness.
