Mate, as far as I know there is no "absolute" limit. In fact in the strict interpretation of the law, if I understand it, you're not allowed to fit any backbox not produced by the car's manufacturer designed to make the exit of exhaust gasses louder! Which means that most of us could run into problems!

The plus side is, take it down a subaru friendly garage. Get them to listen to it and they'll deem it fine sign your piece of paper and Pete's your uncle!!

Untill the next time.....

What exhaust do you have? You could always buy a bung for the backbox?

Wink Oh Dear

I have only just seen this, what is going on? All that fuss about what? The Police were just doing the job they are told to do, by our Government, and we elected them! My daughter was stopped as well, 1.25 Zetec Fiesta, the only mod on it is mudflaps and an alarm! she was asked a couple of questions and sent on her way with an apology for interupting her journey. Taxed, insured, MOT, She has a licence, no illegal bits, so no problem!
If you do the crime you must expect to be spoken to, don't moan about it, take it on the chin and accept you were wrong.

The police are just the executive arm of the law - they do not produce legislation, they just have to enforce it; even when it is half baked or poorly drafted.

As said, it's those nice friendly politicians you voted for that actually draw up the law (well, senior civil servants to be totally accurate, and the HOC/HOL pass it ).

Wink Defending the Police

So are you saying that if your car was stolen you wouldn't report it to the police, or if your house was burgled, or if someone was causing you a problem? We are all in the same boat, I speed, regularly and get away with it, I have been disqualified twice, BUT I BLAME MYSELF, I KNEW THE RULES AND BROKE THEM BY CHOICE. I may well not agree with the rules in some cases, but it is not possible to live in any form of society without rules! So we have to accept them and allow those who we elect to ask our Police to enforce the rules. Just imagine if there was no referee this Saturday when we play our opening world Cup game, and we lost 15-0, would you be happy?
That is why FIFA supply a referee, to enforce the rules, just like the Police.
We all need to support our Police Forces, they allow us some protection from those who break the rules, and sort out them who they catch breaking them. Accept it, you were wrong, the Policeman who pulled you is also a human being, probably a nice person too! I know a lot of nice cops.

So any form of pay back is fine in my book If the car is illegal then so be it

Wink True

We all know it's true, we know when we are breaking the rules and what will happen if we get caught. I have never understood those who cry when caught, they should just say 'fair cop' and deal with the consequences, then move on. Anyway, Man Utd fans are not all bad, in fact i don't actually know any bad ones, just so happens I don't support them, and what a sad place it would be if we all supported the same team. UP THE GUNNERS!

Wow - just took me a fe wasted seconds of my life to skip through this.

Splendid to see some constructive posts and a few people who i'm fairly confident are on day release / introduction back into the community programme.

I guess if im honest my scoob is a tad loud and in Cambs we're quite fortunate in that i havent ben sopped in yet. That said though mine isnt one you here coming a week in advance and i dont tend to join too many of these events the police are trying to squash as they will be doing their role much more assertively to prevent people travelling back.

I am pleased that they are doing something in MK though / It was good to have a walk around there but you always get www.i'ma-novatosser etc there ruining it with their 3 week post puberty driving antics in their mothers shopping wagons.

I think we'll all get mixed reactions dependant on what we drive, how it looks, what it sounds like etc but hey would be **** if we was all lidentical.

To the original dude that got stopped - Hey its a **** when it happens bit hope it all works out. For my looming Mot it will be a case of pulling my old standard exhaust out of shed and fitting if mine is a "tad too loud"

ROCK on ****ers!!!

most of the time, police are right. but not always, ive had it before. in the end there not paying for it. the main resons not just the noise, its to stop cruising around towns ect. at least you lot down there are still able to do this. here in notts, you get fined just for watching. no lie....

thay just like to show there in control. thats all. up till now, ive always had sports cats. it dident stop them. i dont even bother now, besides, with most cars. cats dont even change the gases much

You have no idea what you are talking about. I'll not go into details but in almost all "crimes" if its covered under insurance the force are not interested. Report it of course! Just to get paid by the insurance.

I thought I'd edit out some of my post and just add that I understand your belief in the rules.

MK police are very good imho. I have worked with the Local Area Support Unit, Auto cycle union, Motorsport development UK (where most motorsport gets cash from the government), we did a 2 day conference to 90 council and police delegates to work on ways to to eliminate anti social behaviour from the likes of cruises, mini motos, trail bikes on parks etc. The aim is to have legal safe meets that are insured, and controlled to ensure safety of all.

The national body cruisesport is in place and very well funded to work with car enthusiasts so they can hold legal, insured meets that are supported by councils and police. Affiliated clubs can get £30 million public liability and £12 million land owner indemnity insurance, training to meet health and safety requirements, trained on performing first aid, risk assessments, safe practices, provided with the relevant safety equipment. All of this has been approved by, and is to be supported by the Health and Safety Exec.

All that is needed is pressure from the public to get councils on board, they have to pay an initial fee to get this set up but once in place it will be a club with a governing body in place. This isnt just directed at cruises, but for all forms of car clubs wanting to have a legal meet, which is a little big for the local pub!

As for MK police they are very proactive and really interested in sorting legal meets out, but they have had very little joy. A few idiots ruin it for us all really! MK police have a really hard job controlling it all and ensuring that the public remain safe walking and also using the roads. The place of the cruise is very large as it uses the MK Dons carpark, snow dome and surrounding shopping centers.

I've just read the article about the police and the cruise. The police said that 1 car was found to be stolen, another 19 had false plates and others were recorded on the national data base. Sounds like a nice place to be - not!

i would report it for one reason mate, because my insurance would require a crime referance number.

would i expect them to do anything about it, NO

If i knew who done it and told them, would they then do something about it, NO.

If they didnt let them off with a caution, CPS most certainly would.

This country, for want of a better word is FU**ED. The legal system in this country stinks and they are hell bent on getting more ways to generate revenue from motorists than catching real criminals, thats a fact, like it or not mate.
