Why is Walcott on his way to Germany and Defoe on his way home ?
Will Gerrards back hold up ?
Will Rooney play any part in Englands campaign ?
who do you think will win the World Cup ?

Here we have a tw@t, who patently know nothing about football, giving us the benefit of his "experience".

As for being 2nd favourites, I honestly don't know why the bookies think that. There isn't really anything special about the team. Overpaid primadonnas who can't deliver the goods for their national team.

Lets not turn this into an England \/ Scotland thread, we're talking about the World cup so there's no point even mentioning the scots.
I think we need to play a damn site better, we only won through an own goal but we will have to do very badly against T&T and Sweden not to qualify for the later stages now.

Have to say after watching the performances of Argentina/Ivory Coast and even Sweden/T&T, the English and Paraguayans looked very amateurish.

Q. What do you call a Scotsman in the 2nd round of the World Cup?
A. Ref!
Don't worry about England, it was 30 degrees there yesterday, we don't have any more games in the early afternoon, so we'll be fine. Rooney looks ready to come back, we only need to beat T&T to qualify, and I think they had a one off game against Sweden, once they let in one goal I think they'll crumble.

do you follow football?
if so (which i doubt) are you telling everybody on here that you would have no England player in your club team?
if so my old bean, you are a tool of the highest order
and as for being 2nd favourites, you have no idea about bookmaking.
bookies have to offset there possible losses by offering short odds on the most backed teams/horses /whatever, and longer odds on the least backed teams/horses/whatever. hence England 6-1 mexico 33-1. in reallity there is no way the 2 teams are that far apart. this reflects the general betting publics opinions, which are backed up by hard cash.

Well I hope they play a lot better in the other matches. We played pretty badly, with a few exceptions. Paraguay played dirty though and the ref was a waste of space.
Flame me all you want, we need to play better than this.

No, I don't really understand how bookies work, but from your explanation it has become clearer, as England is clearly over-rated by the general public in England.
I would say the current FIFA rankings are more realistic.
1 Brazil
2 Czech Republic
3 The Netherlands
4 Mexico
5 USA
5 Spain
7 Portugal
8 France
9 Argentina
10 England

GK - Kahn or Dida
DEF - Carlos, Lucio, Cafu, Campbell
MID - Figo, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Vieira or Beckham
FOR - Henry, Ibrahimovic
And I say struggling because you could easily replace Beckham or Campbell, but as for the other players I've listed I don't believe there are any English players as good.

Being a football fan and having watched the game yesterday from a footballing point of view (not an England one! being a Scot ) I thought that Ericsson made some huge mistakes in the substitutions in particular taking Owen off.
England were well ontop in the First-Half but the sub of Owen could have cost them dearly. Although they wasted numerous chances to go further ahead IMHO.
I dont even remember Motson mentioning 1966 FFS

Owen played terrible, i sometimes had to search for him to make sure he was playing. Crouch was offside so may times he may as well have played in goal for Paraguay.

have you never heard of laying a bet.
bookmakers use betfair loads, especially when they have large liabilities and need to limit possible losses.
one of my mates runs the local bookies and uses it when he thinks he's gonna get a big kicking. i'm not sure of the legallity of it but to suggest bookies don't use it is naive
p.s my spelling is, has always and always will be shocking

The problem lies with having a tactically inept, & unadventurous manager Why the **** did he take Walcott if he wasn't going to use him, Saturday would have been an ideal opportunity to give him a run out for 30 minutes, and at least give Crouch someone to knock the ball on too
