As Shustir says
"What would happen if the dogs got into the garden when the little on was their ! How would they feel about that, "

They probably wouldn't give a toss.

Not sure if I'm missing something here ???

Neighbours dogs have eaten their way through the fence.
Neighbours dogs can get into your garden.
Neighbours wont do anything about fixing the fence.

FIX IT YOURSELF !!! - you may not want the expense, but you know the neighbours cant be bothered fixing the fence, so would you rather their dogs come through in a frenzy while your daughter is playing out the back ?

If I was in your position the first thing I'd do is make sure my own garden is completely secure, and their dogs cant get in - a metal fence with metal posts hammered a good way into the ground every few feet will stop them.

While any decent neighbours would realise they should sort out the fence, yours obviously arent decent, so you cant just sit back and hope someone else will sort it out for you - get off your backside and do it yourself.

I had a bit of a do with my neighbours over my dogs, over a fence panel that my dogs had knocked down

My neighbour replaced the fence, as the main reason that particular piece of fence came down, was because they have a tree fixed to it to keep the tree up

They have made it more secure now by putting a beam of wood across between the concrete posts

Squaresy I would do as others have suggested on here, and fix / repair / block access to that part of the garden, **** your neighbours as it sounds like they dont give a toss, and then report them for failing to keep their dogs under control

Your probably right there. If her daughter got bitten, they'd argue that she shouldn't have been on their land, and that the dogs were protecting it's owners.
If they attack your daughter on your land, they'd argue that the dogs were only playing.

And what would the Police do about it?? Probably take there side. Crimanal get treated with more respect that the Victims

I won't let my staffy anywhere near him.

Although I said he is unpredictable, he is well trained and obeys my cousin rigidly. He is soft around my cousins family. A very good guard dog.I'd hate to be the burglar who breaks into my cousins house. I pity the fool !!!!!

I would agree with other comments above though. Get the fence sorted out yourself. Saves any harm coming to your daughter and dog
I've still never heard of a Razorback and I can't find any reference to one?

Presumably, the rug rat isn't a bitch that's in season because if that's the case I can see why the neoghbour's dogs are trying to get in.

Don't think so. I've got one lying beside me in the office and they're usually as docile as a docile thing.

i cannot fix the fence as it is between two conservatories. they built theirs after mine and made the fence inaccessable. secondly, my garden is over 100ft long so they are just going to start on another piece of fence. i dont see how repairing/replacing the fence will solve this as the fence was in good condition to start with and it didnt stop the dogs ripping it apart then. the dogs are left to their own devices in the garden and are obviousley bored and under stimulated. even if i did pay to have the fence replaced i would not be able to sit in the security of knowing we were safe as it would happen again, the issue here is the neighbours not the dogs

There must be some way of securing the garden though ? Even though its not fair you have to do it, the neighbours obviously dont want to take responsibility themselves, so I cant really see any other option.

Getting the dog wardens etc... involved is going to cause a lot of bad feelings with the neighbours, and could lead to loads more trouble.

I think with dodgy neighbours avoidance is usually best, make it so what they are doing cant effect you, then you can just ignore them.

Must be quite worrying.
As said before its a case of you looking after your own so put a metal link or wire fence up then you know your daughter and dog are secure.
As for the neighbours you can hire out the Big Red here for a small fee
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../ossiesnow.jpg

The small fee might be your chihuaha(sp) though

i am going to stick to my original idea of calling the dog warden and handing the dogs to them. not sure what they charge to return a dog but its not cheap

in the meantime i will only let my lot in the garden when i am there. my dog cant get into theirs as the rest of the fence is secure. i have put some old wood and stuff where they come through but i have a feeling it wont be enough.

If you give an inch some peole take a mile, your neighbours are probably no exception. They do not understand reasonable behaviour which is sad and selfish. The one's to suffer are your pet dog and daughter and their dogs. I think reporting them is the best option.

Sarah,

a) Whats a "Rocky" (other than a deranged Robin or a chocolate biscuit) ?

b) This whole "English boundary issue" crap never ceases to amaze me.

If it is "their" fence, what is stopping you sticking up a fence of your own just on your side of the boundary between the properties?

A wire mesh fence will be easily put up, unable to be eaten by the dogs, relatively innexpensive and quite unobtrusive. As for the problem between the conservatories, if its innaccessable, just block it off between your side and your conservatory.

by the way, has this only happened recently? And are their dogs male?

If so, its probably your dog's impending season thats making them behave this way.

If it is a Ridgie then he needs to get it socialised quickly as it shouldn't be aggressive with other dogs so there would seem to be a problem somewhere. I've had three and none of them have been aggressive towards other dogs, in fact the breed will generally shy away from fighting with other dogs due to the fact that they don't like picking up injuries from other dogs, when they have to face up to a lion - which is what they were bred for.

I've only had one that could be remotely bolshy and that was if another dog attacked him first, in which case he'd dispense a quick lesson in manners which other dogs usually understood. They are powerful dogs, so if your brother's is aggressive then he needs to sort it out pronto.

a rocky is a rotweiler(sp), but i meant a rotty

i cant put a fence up on my side as i have 4ft wide conifer trees and if i was able to put up a wire fence it wouldnt be any match for two dogs. it would have to be about 5-6 ft and that would mean cementing posts into my garden. there are a couple of places where they have got in, but they favour the concealed hole near the conservatory. if that was repaired they would just attack the fence further up.

Thumbs down

Comes back to the same old question. Why do morons think it's big to own dangerous dogs that threaten the lives of others? These Ego Cripples need psychological help in my opinion.

If it were up to me I would have all these dangerous breeds of hound outlawed and put down. Problem solved for good.

Because there is no such thing as a dangerous breed. The only thing dangerous about most dogs (there may a few dogs with medical issues) is the owners and just like anything in life it only takes a few muppets to ruin it for everyone else. There are certain breeds that attract individuals from the type of social or crimimal fraternity because of their so called reputation and if we're going to turn this into a debate about dog ownership, then it should be about the human's responsibility, not the dog's.

what worries me is that those sort of dogs have the 'pack' instinct. if they are frustrated and locked in a hot garden all day.....................

They are simply not safe full stop. Why, when there is already so much danger from other sources our society should people such as you have to tolerate this kind of completely unnecessary intimidation from dumb animals? (Dogs not owners)

Any dog has a pack instinct but that doesn't make them dangerous. It comes back to the issue of how genuine you are in your fear for the safety of your child, if indeed there is a genuine threat. If its that bad, then sort the fence out, if not - do nothing.

But getting back on track,

Sarah, can you not put up a wire mesh fence between the boundary and your conservatory edge? Or just over the damaged bit?

Ultimately, yes, you will need to do something about the neighbours wholly innapropriate attitude to dog ownership, butthat may take some time to sort out.

Oh, and all dogs have a pack instinct, not just "that sort". When your Chihuaha grows up, she may well be more likely to bite someone than either the Staffy or the Rottweiler.

Have you introduced your dog to the dogs next door? There's more chance if they are socialised that they will all get on than there is she'll be attacked. In fact, there's every chance if they get to meet that she will assume the dominant role.

I know this may seem hard to understand, and you would have to introduce them carefully, but just because she's the smallest doesn't mean she wouldn't be boss.

But as sara said the dogs will nly break the fence down again. Talk to the Dog Warden see what advice they give.
