I`m on my 4th Scooby, 2 x Classics(1 x P1) and 2 x Newage. I try and keep as far back as possible but still seem to get chips on the bonnet/bumper. The worst place I find for them is the front wings next to the doors especially when I had the P1. I tried mudflaps when I got my 1st Newage but they seemed to make the rear doors chip! I take some comfort in knowing you all suffer the same problem. My girlfriend has a Merc A Class and her bonnet is worse than mine.

I have the same problem.

05 STi with about four or five heavy stone chips on the bonnet. But the worst part is the front bumper, it has been shot blasted with stones by the looks of it. I sometimes look at the front end and just feel like getting it resprayed. Can anyone reccomend a decent bodyshop in the north west?

Same as mine - it must be a specially formulated soft paint !!

Just bought a five year old mini for the wife - not a single mark on the bonnet or bumper........

Just annoys me to death everytime I wash it

Default chips

I have a wrx05 silver (10 months old) which suffers with loads of stone chips , I've been looking around and I may try the supaguard which is a film that is coated on your car to protect it against stone chips , it's priced about £300 for bumper and bonnet.

My 05 is 15 months old and so far has had to have the bonnet repaired twice due to flying 'rocks'causing actual dents to it

not to mention the front bumper looking like someone has fired a shot gun at it from point blank range!

and thats despite being ever concious of incurring said damage and wherever possible not getting even within 200 yards of the car in front!!!

coupled with the fact that the g/f's 4 yr oldcorsa(who insists on driving everywhere as tho her hair is on fire)...had a grand total of 5 yes FIVE stone chips on the bonnet in 40000 miles when she sold it this week

So its probably an understatement to say that I wasn't best pleased to see that my plastic soddin' wheelie bin had fallen on to my front wing and caused even more of my precious paintwork to part company from where it belonged.....I hate the bluddy thing and will never buy another,£500 for a front end re-paint on Monday

Rant over and everything sharp has been hidden

I wouldnt bother mate. I was offerd it for 20 quid by a friend at a garage thats the whole car inside and out, shows how much its worth. besides your supposed to keep up treatment yourself by adding coats latter. your better off with a quality wax, see car care section of SN

Mines a Aqua 05 WRX with 6500 miles. Not to bad on the stone chip front a couple of very minor marks on the bonnet and four or five on the bumper.

I doubt very much whether there is anything you can apply which will stop this happening.

It might make me sound like a boring sod, but as I'm lounging around in my flame suit right now, I'll say it anyway:

Have you thought about maybe, possibly, not driving so close to the car in front !!!

That's where all the chip-making stones are coming from guys and gals if you hadn't realised, as stones generally like to stay on the ground when they're having a kip. It's the car in front that's launching them into the air and it's you driving into them before they hit the ground again that's causing the chips. Bloomin obvious really.

Give it a few more metres on a regular basis and you will save yourself the resprays.

[quote=DCI Gene Hunt]Naaah, it's not the fact that the paint finish is ropey, it's something else, the chips in my front end are seriously deep into the plastic bumper, and front end in general, must be something to do with the angle of the car to the road?

Mine is rubbish too and i also have quite deep stone chips, mine is also a MY05! mmmmmmm strange!

It's a bit more than just the quality of paint...

Sure, the Impreza's do not have a great deal of paint on them in terms of depth, but it's not that, that is the problem....

It's all down to the shape of the car, and how close you drive to the guy in front of you...
When I worked at a main dealers, not Subaru, we had problems with stonechips on the rear quarters, which was apparently due to the aerodynamic shape of the car drawing the flying stones back into the rear of the car...!!!
A stone can break a windscreen remember, and they are a LOT stronger than a coat of paint.

The only way of not getting stonechips is to not drive the car, unfortunately
