My experience with them has always been positive. ANY animal can be unpredictable be it a cat, dog or donkey, so to villify the pit bull breed is a little unfair. I would question having any large dog around children not just these so called dangerous breeds. The American pitt bull has had negative press because of the treatment from unscrupulous owners/breeders. I think they are fantastic animals which are loyal, full of energy and very obedient.

I agree that the breed should not be villified, but Wheelwright is promoting an illegal transaction as all living APB's should be neutered and it is illegal to breed them in this country.

If anyone does know of a breeder do not PM wheelwright , simply report the breeder to the police, the RSPCA, the RNLI, the Whizz Kids appeal, Oh and Crimestoppers

...and see if you can spot the breeder doing more than 3mph over the speed limit. That should cover it

There's loads of neglected dogs at Battersea Dog's Home, I always think it's a bit sad that people risk buying potentially dangerous dogs, when they could save a dog from neglect. Every dog comes with an expert assessment of it's temperament, which in our case was exremely accurate. We've had our Battersea dog for 10 years and he's wonderful. he also only cost £75 rather than about £500 for a pedigree.

Just my opinion mind you....

The trouble with breed specific legislation is that it completely misses the point and targets the breed without taking into consideration any external factors such as social or criminal backgrounds of the owners. I remember the BMA producing a report years ago in which they blamed one of the bull terrier groups for being particularly vicious with children, completely failing to take into account that the local population was far higher than normal and that they were predominantly owned by people from the lower end of the gene pool. Once this was pointed out to them, they immediately withdrew their 'findings'.

The same goes for crossbreeds which account for the majority of attacks on humans, so why aren't they banned? Could it be that it's almost impossible to legislate and doesn't make anywhere as good headlines as 'HMG bans Pitbulls'?

All those dog breeds, why go for one as contrversial, its true any animal can turn but why get a breed that is able to make such a good job of it if they do, my mum had a Chiwauwau and that was pure evil but the worst it could do was nip you, didnt hurt much but due to its minging breath it had the potential to kill you like a Komodo Dragon does with its infectious saliva !

Dont get one, you will look a *** !

What wrong with a Pit Bull Lite (TM), otherwise known as a Staff ?

Rotties are another dog that gets bad press but you couldn't find a more
loveable and friendly natured breed, BUT in the wrong hands can be quiet
the opposite.

As i said anyone that knows of any pups/breeders please PM me.
Rotties are lovely when reared by the right people. We have one a few doors down - his bark is threatening, but he is the biggest softy ever. Out on a lead, he is more docile and better behaverd than many of your 'favoured' breeds like labs..

agree with Jacko...with so much canie choice why pick anything other than a "Nice" dog?

i have 3 dogs, 2 lurchers and an English Bull, none of them have been trained beyond not ****ting in the house.

the EBT LOVES kids and will spend all day with them if he could (i have lived with EBT for 30+ years and know they are all like that)......the lurchers couldnt care less about kids, if its not a rabbit and not running away they dont give a toss.

HOWEVER....i would happily leave my kids with the lurchers and never with the EBT because, deep down, the EBT has the natural agression to (BE ABLE) to kill them. My lurchers are more likely to order a pizza than bite anyone.

I have lived with dozens of EBT over the years and they are as great with people as everyone says.....i have also seen them fight each other and attacj the odd person and they can be bloody dangerous! (had a builder from next door pop over the fence when i was a kid to collect something he dropped in our garden......went back minus his trousers and needing stiches.

bottom line......the "only dangerous owners" bit is like saying there are no dangerous guns.....maybe so, but i'd rather be shot by an air rifle than an AK47.
