No offence intended mate, but if your parents attitude doesn't change they are gonna get screwed, and if they're not going to seek professional assistance, deservedly so IMO.

Just echoing the thoughts of crisPDUK, your parents must get the help of a qualified solicitor,a few hundred quid spent just now will save them thousands in the long run.By not doing this they are playing right into the hands of these scum bags and their chav-r-us parasitic lawyer, where as a well worded letter just now could stop this in its tracks!
As for representing themselves in court, well it all sounds cool, romantic and Hollywood, but in reality this is a daunting task and pretty much frowned upon in the legal proffession. A seasoned court lawyer will tear them to shreds and tie them in knots.Your parents at their age really dont want this,or the worry hanging over them.
I really hope they take legal advice because if they dont they would probably be as well as settling out of court just now!!, Dont let these scum win!!
Good luck and hope you can get your parents to see sense.

excellent news, we had a driver who had a very minor rear end prang with a gentleman by the name of abdul, moved our guys bumper slightly and that was that. 6 months later the no win no fee letter drops through the door claiming massive damage etc to the other car back injuries etc. Thats just been to court and good old Abdul got 4K and the solicitors got 4K. Just shows your parents were lucky, though theres a lot to be said for appearing in court and the judge putting a face to the story
