Audi TT

they are not unrelated, not on this website at least.
We have impreza owners tarring the image of the car when it can be shown they have relatively no taste themselves, their opinion is therefore less valuable!
I have had imprezas for over 7 years, I have been on this site since the old old old shape was out, I am not anti impreza, but I think its a bit rich to make a joke of the TTs image and use it as a deciding factor in buying a car when those casting dispersions were immune to the image their own car has.
By stating to these same people that their own opinion on image is in question, I am defending it against the statements made on this same thread.
You clearly don't appreciate that image is subjective, therefore the impreza or TT having their own thread on a subaru website when most of the readers are subaru owners/fans is fairly pointless.

guys, to answer the question, i think I am one of the only people who has driven over 5000 miles in both cars, therefore when the question comes up I can give an answer for genuine experience.
diablo, thanks for the info on the fwd/rwd thing, was hoping they would address that and it sounds as though they havent.
Haven't seen any reviews on the new one yet to learn.
As for the 3.2, it is a weight thing, and the fact that the 1.8t is such a great engine, I just can't justify the lack of tunability and performance and in the increase in weight of the NA versus the FI.

The Great Debate - What makes the best handling car
Five cars tested - BMW M3 / Lotus Elise / Peugeot 306 GTi-6 / Porche 911 / Subaru Impreza
CONCLUSION - Fascinating line-up produced fasciniating set of results: Elise and 911 ended up in the dog house, M3 and 306 results predictable, Subaru ruled supreme
.......Mark
Apologies for the mistake it was the 911 not the Boxter, which makes the classic even better IMHO

Comparative argument:-
Just because I'm a serial killer doesn't mean I can't recognise a murder scene when I see one.
If you could be realistic for just one second then you'd realise that these stereotypes exist for a reason. Largely because they are true in many people's minds.
As it happens 2 or 3 cars ago I thought about buying a TT and the comments I got from a range of people with varying levels of car 'nouse' were these.
"what do you want one of those for, they are for estate agents"
"that's a girls car"
"they were allright, when they came out, now everyone's got one"
etc etc
Of course I didn't let that put me off buying one, what put me off was the fact I didn't feel it offered enough fun for the other compromises it demanded.

flawed logic once again!
bmw drivers are generally regarded as w@nkers, by your reckoning, where there is smoke there is fire so in general you must be a w@nker to drive one.
Same goes for a ferrari.
It seems the consensus fits you into a mould and an image forms for that car.
Tell me, how many people of the people that form these stereo types know anything about cars? the answer is very few.
I faced a lot of criticism for driving an mx5 but anyone who knows anything about cars will confirm it is one of the finest handling and best value cars money can buy.
These same people will tell you what they do about the TT.
The fact remains a question is being asked about a car popular because of its mould braking styling on a website dedicated to people who make a point of not choosing a car for its styling.
It is then hypocritical to hear it brandished a hair dressers car because of its styling.
I repeat, I would rather be a hairdresser with an appreciation of style and quality, than a low rent low class chav with a burberry hat, lexus lights and neons.

Stereotypes are formed by everyone, whatever their level of car knowledge.
For example if I see a black cab I automatically expect it to make sudden turns without indicating. When I see a down at heel looking white limo I expect to be flashed at by a gang of scabby looking women out on a hen night. When I see an Impreza I expect either some fat, balding git or an artless chav and of course when I see a TT I expect to see 'metrosexual' male or someone who wouldn't be out of place shopping in M&S for their clothes.
What I find particularly telling is the need of TT owners to resort to 'tit for tat- mines better than yours' schoolyard arguments. To my mind that indicates that they have a problem with the way they think others perceive them and feel the need to lash out to defend their position.
Personally if I owned a TT (which I seriously considered but was dismayed at what the overall package offered) then I wouldn't give a fig what anyone thought of me or it. Particularly not a bunch of people on a Subaru BBS.
As an experiment why not go around a few car forums dedicated to different marques and ask a few questions about people's opinions on the TT. I imagine whatever the forum you'll get the same stereotypes dredged up again and again whether it's a BBS dedicated to Porsches, Mondeos or SMART cars I reckon the answers will be the same. Like it or not the image outlined here is the zeitgeist.
BTW the styling was mould breaking and still looks fresh today but as I keep saying whatever impact it had is sadly diluted by the sheer number of them on the roads.
I'm glad though, you'd rather look like a homosexual male hairdresser with poor fashion sense than a scummy baseball cap wearing chav. Personally I'm not sure which I'd prefer.

Good you're enjoying it, I love the 'I just got a new toy' feeling. Get it remapped and you won't believe the difference in how much more driveable it is.
Do you find visibility (particularly seeing the lights change) a problem? I'm well over 6 foot and found myself having to almost bend double to see the lights change in the TT.

what does handling is shape mean?
rabid, fair comments.
Have to say that homosexual hairdressers, in fact homosexual men usually have excellent taste. That's why they created queer eye for the straight guy.
Having said that they have imho, questionable taste in sexual partners!
I don't understand what women see men, never minds homosexuals.
